Chapter 1143

Skylar rarely came by, but her mom insisted on keeping an office for her.

The interview with Muriel lasted half an hour.

They discussed many things. Muriel’s ideas about jewelry design and her approach matched Skylar’s perfectly.

She was particularly interested in designing accessories with vintage elements and liked to replicate ancient paintings in her free time.

They finalized details regarding the trial period and compensation.

After Muriel left, Skylar called Lizzie.

“I just finished interviewing Muriel. She’s even better than I expected, and our ideas align very well. Thank you. I’ll pay for her salary,” Skylar said.

Lizzie’s tone sounded relieved. “Let me handle it, Skylar. Please give me this opportunity to make it up to her. It’s something I owe her, and it makes me feel a bit better.”

Skylar wanted to say that Muriel was capable enough to earn this salary on her own, even without Lizzie’s recommendation. However, given the current situation, she decided not to reject Lizzie’s offer.

If she guessed correctly, the person Lizzie had been thinking about for years was indeed Muriel.

With that in mind, she asked, “I just added her on WhatsApp–do you want me to send her contact info to you?”

Lizzie hesitated briefly before replying, “Yes, please.”

“Okay.”

Lizzie stared at Muriel’s contact, which Skylar had sent over.

After opening it, she didn’t immediately add her as a friend. Her gaze lingered on the profile picture, which showed a back view that Lizzie recognized instantly as Muriel’s.

She couldn’t bring herself to face her.

Just a few days ago, Lizzie had watched from the shadows as Muriel struggled to sell her handmade jewelry at a street stall while streaming on her phone.

It made her feel that all of this was her fault. If Muriel hadn’t met her, her life wouldn’t have turned out this way.

Lizzie closed her phone and ripped off her wig. She stood on the balcony and lit a cigarette. Smoking seemed addictive, as one led to another until seven to eight cigarette butts filled the

ashtray.

When her manager arrived and saw Lizzie smoking on the balcony, looking disheveled and depressed, she wasn’t surprised.

Artists were like that, after all.

In the years she had managed Lizzie, she had grown used to it.

In public, Lizzie always appeared to be a graceful, long–haired beauty–a perfect image of an artist. But in private, she seemed like a completely different person. RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

Seeing Lizzie like this, the manager couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for her.

“You didn’t skip breakfast and lunch, did you? You’re already thin enough. If you lose more weight, clothes won’t look good on you.”

Lizzie stubbed out her half–smoked cigarette when she heard her manager’s words. “I’m not hungry.”

“Even if you’re not hungry, you still need to eat. I brought your favorite tomato and egg stir- fry.”

When Lizzie heard that, she glanced at it. Her gaze lingered as if it brought back some memories.

Skylar spent the whole day at the company. At three in the afternoon, Natalie called her over, so she drove directly to Natalie’s house.
