Chapter 161: Hugh
A few years later.
It’s been some time since everything has settled down.
The years went by fast, I’ve been considered an adult for three years now.
My sister and Elias are still all lovey-dovey.
Though as a married couple I’d expect nothing less.
Mom gave birth to a cute little sister a few months after father came back from war.
Her name is Emelia, she looked like mom, though with two horns and red eyes like dad, she is an
almost perfect mix of the two.
I adored her when she was born.
From the very beginning, she was such a cute little sister, however, she could be a little bit of a
prankster sometimes.
Even now as a teen she still pokes fun whenever she feels the need.
From the last time I was at the mansion, it seemed one of Sir Jesse’s sons was trying to court her.
She is around the same age as when Rose met Elias, which caused father to go into a fury.
Of course, I don’t think Amelia sees it as anything other than friendship.
My parents didn’t have any more children after my little sister Amelia was born.
It seemed every pregnancy was harder on the mother than the last.
Father decided after watching how sickly mother got after the birth that he didn’t want to risk losing her.
——-
I haven’t seen them in some time. Being the Demon King is annoying.
Oh, yea I forgot that you didn’t know, yes a little bit over a year ago I was given the reigns.
My father said that if I wished I could take over one day after I come of age(18).
But I didn’t want to take over so soon, I was still young and wanted to continue training and learning.
Only until last year did I decide to accept the challenge of being the Demon king.
Little did I know how much work it is.
Father did complain sometimes about it, but as a child, I didn’t pay much attention to it.
I sometimes wish I remembered those times before I took over. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
Emelia never really got into swordsmanship, she seemed to enjoy it when other people fought on her
behalf.
That left Rose and me, father was willing to give the title to either of us regardless of who was born first
or what gender we were.
We both trained with the sword and were proficient in fighting. We studied laws and how to govern.
I thought sister would take the reins, since she resembled father at times.
However once she gave birth to her first child it become apparent she didn’t want to deal with anything
as big as ruling an empire.
Even though father was still young in a sense, I knew he just wanted to relax with his kids and
grandkids.
He said that it’s been a while since he’s visited the continent and demon folk usually like to see power.
I didn’t understand what he meant until he told me the stories of the competitions and power struggles.
I asked if there were any problems now that were weighing on him but he said everything was fine.
———
I’ve never told anyone this but all my life I’ve felt different, a secluded child with no one like me.
Demons and humans alike would stare. It wasn’t my looks or build, it was all because of my single
horn.
After father took control and started pushing for more inclusion, mixes between the races started to
become more and more common but still seeing a half-demon was odd.
That might be why I fell for Sylphy so easily.
I remember the first day we met, I was a tiny little boy hiding behind my mother, with no knowledge of
who she was.
She had her hands on her knees and looked at me with a sweet and caring smile.
Just her kind expression was enough to make me smile and come out from behind my mother.
She said, “You must be Hugh, you’re sister was right you are cute.”
I remember by the end of her stay I was holding her dress not wanting her to go.
She patted my head and spoke about how she’d come back.
A few more visits after that and I was already saying in a confident tone and stance how I’d make her
my wife one day.
She smiled and laughed.
She went along with it, constantly encouraging me. I took it as such and continued.
She’d come back and visit our mansion every year on the dot.
She’d stay for a few weeks and I’d tell her everything’s that’s happened and how I’ve improved.
I did my best training every day, now I’m even stronger than my father.
