After leaving the Wright residence, Finnegan headed to the hospital where Rhiannon was taking care
of Desmond in his ward.
Nodding, Finnegan walked to the bedside and checked Desmond’s pulse. “Dad, how are you feeling?”
Desmond stretched out his legs. “I’m fine now. I feel like I can be discharged from the hospital and
return to school tomorrow.”
He paused before scolding, “Why didn’t you tell me earlier about your mother’s hospitalization?”
Startled, Finnegan turned to look at Rhiannon.
The latter stuck out her tongue. “I let it slip without realizing it. Mom and Dad know now.”
Finnegan called her a blabbermouth in his mind but didn’t blame her.
He had no intention of keeping his parents in the dark forever. “Dad, I was afraid that you and Mom
worrying about each other wouldn’t be good for your respective recovery. I promise I won’t hide
anything from you in the future.”
Desmond’s expression softened slightly. “Remember, no matter what happens, don’t hide it from me. If
something really happened to your mom, wouldn’t I even miss the chance to see her one last time?”
“I know. But Dad, aren’t you angry?”
This time he had dragged his parents into his affairs.
Desmond patted Finnegan’s shoulder, “If people are scheming against you, it means you’re successful.
As your father, I have no reason to be angry about that, right? I’m just upset at myself for being a
useless father. Not only am I incapable of helping you, but I’m also holding you back!”
Finnegan, ready to be scolded, said, “Dad, you’re not incompetent at all. Didn’t you raise me and Rhia?
In our hearts, you will always be the best!”
“You’re getting better and better at sweet talking. No wonder Bernice has taken a liking to you.
Go.check on your mom, I’m fine here.”
Still, Finnegan spent some time chatting with Desmond before he left the ward with Rhiannon.
On the way to Quiana’s ward, Rhiannon said, “Finn, Uncle Raymond and Uncle Adrian were here
again.”
Upon hearing this, Finnegan furrowed his brows. “What are they here for this time? To continue making
fools of themselves?”
Rhiannon replied, “Not this time. Their attitude has improved a lot. They even bought a fruit basket for
Mom and Dad. However, they implied that they still hope you will treat Max and the others, saying that
they are on the verge of bankruptcy. But Mom and Dad are aware of your stance, so they didn’t agree.
They also asked me not to tell you.”

Finnegan said, “Then pretend that you never told me. Allowing Dr. Cooper to treat them is my greatest
act of kindness.”
Nodding, Rhiannon said, “There’s another thing. This morning, Nancy called me. She said that today is
her dad’s birthday, and she hopes that we, her friends, can go and celebrate Mr. Sanchez’s birthday
with her because Mr. Sanchez never celebrated his birthday before and he never told her when his
birthday is He asked me to invite you too. The more the merrier. If you hadn’t come here, I was
planning to call you later.”
Since there was nothing much happening that night and he was curious about Bennett, Finnegan
nodded.
“Alright, I’ll get Shaun and the others to join us.”
The two of them arrived at Quiana’s ward.
Upon entering, however, they found that besides Quiana, Josephine was also present.
Rhiannon slapped her forehead. “I forgot to mention that Josephine has been coming over to see Mom
whenever she is free these past few days. She even stayed up all night with Mom the day before
yesterday.”
A smile broke out across Finnegan’s lips, suddenly feeling as if Rhiannon was a little devil with horns
growing on her head.
He didn’t believe that Rhiannon had forgotten, but rather, she was deliberately not saying it.
But now that he was there, Finnegan braced himself and walked in. “Mom, Josephine.”
Dressed in casual attire, Josephine stood up. “I was just about to leave. You keep your mom company,
alright?”
“Rhia, please walk Josephine out.”
Hearing that she was leaving, Finnegan secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Ever since Josephine confessed her feelings, he always felt a bit guilty whenever he saw her.
With a complex expression on his face, Quiana patted the edge of the bed, signaling Finnegan to sit
down. “Finny, are things still fine between you and Bernie?”
Knowing what Quiana wanted to say, Finnegan responded, “Even though Bernie and I don’t meet
often, we text and call each other every day. Our relationship is very stable. Moreover, her grandfather
has also accepted me, so things are looking good.”
Upon hearing this, Quiana gave a wry smile. “That’s good. I just can’t help but pity Josephine.”
As someone who had seen the ways of the world and watched Josephine grow up, how could Quiana
not understand what was on Josephine’s mind?
Moreover, Josephine would come to see her every day, taking care of her even more attentively than
Rhiannon.
Her actions clearly illustrated her feelings for Finnegan
Otherwise, it didn’t make sense for her to do such a thing.

Finnegan acted as if he was clueless when the truth was that he also didn’t know what to say.
However, Quiana wasn’t about to let him off the hook so easily. “But what were you thinking back then?
Normally speaking, Josephine is your childhood sweetheart. You should be with her!”
Seeing that he couldn’t dodge the issue any longer, Finnegan had no choice but to confront it. “Mom,
it’s true that Josephine and I grew up together, like two childhood sweethearts. But precisely because
of this, I only see her as a sister, and I can’t develop any other feelings for her!”
Quiana opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but she didn’t know how to express it.
In the end, she waved her hand dismissively. “Never mind. This is a matter for you young people. We
won’t interfere. However, Have you been avoiding Josephine lately?”
Finnegan nodded. “I understand her intentions. So I think it’s better to keep some distance.”
“Finny, you’re not falling for Josephine, are you?” Quiana furrowed her brows with a look of concern on
her face. “Why would you deliberately distance yourself if you didn’t have feelings for her? Are you
afraid you won’t be able to control yourself or something?”
Finnegan’s face turned awkward. “Mom, I’m already with Bernie, aren’t I? Isn’t it inappropriate to get
close to other women?”
Quiana shook his head. “That’s not right. If you consider Josephine as your sister, then why are you
avoiding her? Finny, you mustn’t become a two-timer!”
Quiana’s suspicions and worries left Finnegan nonplussed.
Nonetheless, it also gave him something to think about Is distancing myself from Josephine somewhat
inappropriate?
At that moment, Rhiannon had already escorted Josephine to the ground floor of the hospital building.
“Rhia, you should head back. I’ll just take a taxi.”
Suddenly, Rhiannon blurted out, “Josephine, have you not given up on my brother?”
A tightness gripped Josephine’s heart, her expression becoming somewhat awkward. “Don’t talk
nonsense,” she said. “Your brother and Ms. Zimmerman are already engaged. Also, Ms. Zimmerman
has helped me before, so I wouldn’t do that.”
“Really?” Rhiannon pouted with a smile. “If that’s the case, why do you visit my mom every day? It
seems to me like you can’t make any progress with my brother, so you’re thinking of getting to him
through her, aren’t you?”
In an instant, Josephine’s face turned beet red.
“Don’t make assumptions. I came to visit Mrs. Larkin simply because I had some free time. That’s all.
I’m leaving now!”
Having said that, she left as if she was running away, seemingly worried that Rhiannon would say
something else to embarrass her.
Rhiannon, twirling her fingers, murmured, “Ms. Lindsey, Josephine, Ms. Haimowitz, Ms. Langdon,
and….

what’s her name… Ms. Wahlstrom… When did my brother become so charming?”
Nevertheless, Rhiannon didn’t fret over it. She cheerfully turned around and said, “Who cares? As long
as they keep buying me nice things, it’s all good. I wonder if Ms. Langdon is serious about giving me a
car?”
