Chapter 23: Amelia is fired
Chapter 23: Amelia is fired
Amelia got to the company very early in the morning. She got to her table and arranged everywhere. James was yet to arrive, and she was happy she got to the company before him.
‘I’m going to try my best not to piss him off.’
She took a look at her outfit and smiled. She was dressed in a yellow T-shirt and a very tight blue skirt that stopped directly on top of her knee. Her flat shoes were black. Her t-shirt refused to remain tucked in her shirt because her skirt was too tight. As she walked, it kept pulling out.
‘I believe this is a better look. He would be surprised to see me wearing something fitted.’ Amelia thought excitedly.
She sat on her chair and placed her bag on the table. She pulled out the file James had given her and began to read through it again.
She stayed up all night to make sure she covered everything in the file. She just wanted to brush through to refresh her memory.
She was still reading when she heard the elevator open. ‘He is here!’
She sprang to her feet and pulled her skirt down. She gulped and folded her hands in front of her.
She looked at the hallway, expecting James to pop out, but Freddie came into sight instead.
“Uncle Freddie?” She called in surprise, and he bounced his head with a grin.
“Baby Amelia.”
He opened his arms and she ran into his arms and hugged him tightly.
“What are you doing here? I missed you so much,” Amelia said and looked at his face.
“I missed you so much too, Amelia. I’m sorry I haven’t visited you since you left the house. I have been so busy.”
Amelia let out an affectionate smile and took two steps backwards away from him.
“I understand, Uncle. I’m happy you are here now.”
“Hmm, you look different today. Stepping up your fashion game, hun?” He asked, and she chuckled.
“Something like that. Is it good?” She asked, making a quick turn.
“Trust me, everything you do is good, Amelia. Lest I forget, I’m so sorry about what happened to you last night. Mr. Charles called me to tell me. I got you a new phone on my way here.”
Freddie walked to Amelia’s desk and opened his briefcase. “Your boss is yet to arrive?” He further asked, and Amelia bounced her head.
“Uncle, you didn’t have to buy another for me. I still have some cash.”
Freddie shook his head and pulled out the black IPhone X he had gotten for her.
“The cash would serve other things, okay? I don’t mind getting a cellphone for you. Here, have it.”
He stretched the carton to her, and she collected it from him with full happiness.
“Thank you so much, Uncle. I love you.”
She moved closer to him and planted a kiss on his cheek. Freddie chuckled and locked his briefcase.
“I can’t stay long, Amelia. Mr. Charles and I have a meeting in an hour, and I still have to get to my company first.”
Amelia nodded and placed the phone on her table.
“Can you thank Mr. Charles for me? Him and his wife treated me like their daughter last night. Mr. Charles drove me home.”
Freddie looked at her and raised his eyebrows. “Really? Well, I’m not surprised Charles is so nice to you. Once he likes you, he will always be nice. But his wife? He doesn’t have a wife.”
“Oh yes, that’s true. His ex-wife. I’m sorry.”
Freddie smiled and shook his head as they both headed to the elevator.
“It’s fine, Amelia. I’m happy you succeeded in getting into James’ heart. So how did you get what he loves the most?” He asked, and she furrowed her eyebrows.
“I haven’t succeeded in getting into his heart, Uncle. I mean, he hates my guts, and I’m still not close to knowing what he loves the most.”
“Really? That is weird. Charles told me he signed our contract last night.”
“What?! Really?! So I’m free?”
“Free? Hell no! You need to keep working here, Amelia. Aren’t you happy you have finally secured a good job? You can finally survive without your uncle. Moreover, this isn’t the last business I and the Parkers would do together. You can’t ruin the opportunity we have now.”
Amelia heaved a sigh and bounced her head. She punched the elevator button and waited for the door to open up.
‘He still didn’t give a shit about me last night. What made him sign the contract?’
The elevator opened and Freddie stepped into it.
“Hey, I saved my number on your phone already. Call me as soon as you get home. I got a SIM card for you too. I have your number already.”
Amelia bounced her head and waved at Freddie as the elevator closed.
‘So Mr. Charles hasn’t told him about what we discussed last night?’
She exhaled softly and walked back to her table. She sat and picked up the carton, she opened it and switched on her phone.
As she waited for it to come on. She remembered how she got robbed and her body hairs stood in reaction to her thought. She shivered and shook off the thought.
The phone came on and she broadly smiled.
“I’ll ask him for his phone number again when he arrives,” She told herself as she scrolled through the phone.
Soon she perceived a familiar scent, and she lifted her head to see James standing in front of his office. He was opening the door.
‘When did he arrive? He must have arrived when I got lost on my phone.’
Amelia nervously put down her phone and stood up. She moved to where James was but kept a reasonable distance between them.
“Good morning, Mr. James. I hope you slept well.”
Amelia's moist lips lifted in an enthusiastic smile as she greeted him. She expected him to look at her, but he totally ignored her.
He walked into the office and slammed the door in Amelia’s face before she even thought of following him in.
‘What’s going on?’ She thought, dragging her feet back to her table. She stared at his door and got lost in thoughts again.
‘He isn’t always this cold. What happened? Was he forced to sign the contract? Did his father say something to him about me?’
“Amelia!”
James’ intense, threatening voice knocked Amelia out of her thoughts, and she hurriedly sprang to her feet.
“Sir, I’m coming, sir.”
She opened his door and hurried into his office. She got to his desk and lowered her head. “Here I am, sir.”
James moved an envelope in front of her and looked at her face in disgust.
“I give you two minutes to pack your things and get the hell out of here.”
“Sir?” Amelia’s eyes widened in awe, and she couldn’t but stare at him.
“Your two minutes started counting seconds ago. After two minutes and you are still in this vicinity, I’ll do something you have never imagined in your entire miserable life:”
Amelia began to breathe hard and loud after hearing James’ threat. She began to shed tears in no time.
“Please, Mr. James. I beg you. Please don’t do this. Please forgive me. I’m sorry.”
She kept apologizing even though she had no idea what she had done to deserve such a cruel attitude from him.
James didn’t hesitate to pick up his phone, and he began to put a call across to the security.
“I beg you, Mr. James. I don’t want to wait for my uncle to help me anymore. I want to have my own life, feed myself and…”
“I need two men up here right now. There’s someone I need you to throw out for me.”
James interrupted her speech, and Amelia’s jaw slacked in anguish. ‘He is truly throwing me out.’
Amelia knew once the men came, they were going to handle her carelessly, so she hurriedly stood up and turned to leave.
“Take that letter of termination. There are enough reasons to kick you out of this company. You should have seen this coming.”
James picked up the letter and tossed it to her. Amelia picked the letter from the floor in sadness and headed out of the office.
As soon as she was out, the security men were approaching already.
“I’m leaving already! Don’t touch me!” She yelled in anger, and they immediately took a halt.
She grabbed her bag, threw everything that belonged to her in it and ran to the elevator.

James relaxed the muscles in his face after frowning for hours. He felt so relieved that Amelia was out of his life.
“Now mother wouldn’t have those weird fantasies anymore. This will make her understand that I hate her with all my guts!”
James' phone began to beep, and he checked the caller, but it happened to be an unknown number.
“Who the f**k is this?” NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
He answered the phone and put it on speaker. He waited to hear the person’s voice before saying anything.
“Hey Pookie.”
James closed his eyes and clenched his jaws in anger immediately he heard the voice.
“I told you never to call me that again, Elena. What the f**k do you want? And why are you calling me with a strange number? You knew I wouldn’t answer the phone if I knew it was you, hun?!” He asked in rage.
“C’mon, James. Why are you so upset today? Did your new secretary get on your nerves?”
“She is not my secretary anymore. Moreover, it’s none of your business. What do you want?”
“She isn’t your secretary anymore? She is now your fiancée?”
“What?! No! Where did you get such stupid idea from?” He asked in surprise.
“Why not let us leave that aside. Since she isn’t your secretary, can I come back to the company?”
“Hell No! Listen to me, Elena. I’m not in the mood for these silly games you are trying to play, okay?”
“Yeah, I know. I just called to hear your voice again, my love. And, I want to tell you that I don’t mind having another night of pleasure with you again.”
“F**k you, Elena.”
“I love you too. See you soon, Pookie. I’m not giving up on you easily. Bye!”
She guffawed and hung up before James could say any more words. James tightened his fist and hit his table, making a loud noise.
“B**tch!”
