Chapter 406
Chapter 406
Queena sure had a knack for knowing when Cynthia needed her.
Cynthia hustled out of bed and rushed downstairs. The living room’s landline receiver was off the hook, and not wanting Quern to wait too long, she quickly brought it to her ear.
“Hello,” Cynthia said.
No sooner had she spoken than Queen’s interrogative voice came through the line, “Cynthia, what gives? Why’d you just up and l middle of the night?”

Cynthia felt a bit awkward, not wanting to admit that Liam had whisked he
her away and she’d woken up in th
the car.
After racking her brain for a good excuse, she said, “I remembered I had some things to take care of at Regalian Garden, so I headed back. I didn’t want to disturb you since you were sound asleep. I’m really sorry, Queena.“
Upon hearing this, Querna clicked her tongue and teased, “Cynthia, save the excuses. I know you couldn’t bear to be away from Liam, that’s why you snuck off. You guys aren’t an old married couple, but you’ve been hitched for a while now. If you can’t handle not sleeping together for one night, what will you do when you’re pregnant and can’t be together for a whole year?”
Cynthia, initially listening intently, started to feel the conversation take a strange turn. What did Queena mean by not being together for a year while pregnant? Was she driving the conversation off a cliff?
As Queena got more and more animated, Cynthia quickly interjected.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, What’s really on your mind?” Cynthia steered the conversation back on track. “Are you up now! My phone is still with you don’t forget to bring it when we meet up.”
Queena’s attention was immediately diverted. She glanced around her bed and spotted Cynthia’s phone. To make sure she wouldn’t forget, she placed it next to her own phone.
After hanging up, Cynthia quickly had a bite of breakfast, tidied up a hit, and on second thought, slipped Liam’s card into her bag
Cynthia picked a modest car from the garage and went to pick up Queena on her way.
When she arrived at the Yearwood residence, Queena was already waiting outside, waving cheerfully at the sight of Cynthia’s car.
Once inside, she promptly returned Cynthia’s phone. “Here you go, I’ve charged it up for you, Queena said.
Cynthia glanced at the phone and saw the battery was full. She complimented Queena. “I didn’t expect you to be so thoughtful.
“Of course, I am,” Queena replied, not a hint of modesty as she raised her chin.
“Where to next?” Cynthia asked since she wasn’t as familiar with the area as Queen
Queena pondered for a moment and then asked, “Cynthia, are you any good at spotting antiques?”
“Are you thinking of gifting Mrs. Sullivan an antique?” Cynthia inquired,
“Yep.” Queena nodded, her face showing signs of worry. “Vincent cut off afford anything pricey.

Cynthia drove steadily, keeping her eyes on the road, and offered some reassurance.
“If you’re in a tight spot, you really don’t have to give a gift. Mrs. Sullivan already has everything she needs. When it comes to her birthday party, just showing up and giving her your best wishes will make her very happy.”

But Queena rejected the idea outright with a determined tone, “No way. If I say I’m going to give a gi long as Mr. Sullivan is around, she’s my family”
Queens and her brother had been mistreated by their extended family, but they found a sense of belonging and affection with David and Jasmine, which made then feel closer to David and Jasmine than the old couple’s own kin,
While waiting at a traffic light, Cynthia glanced at the girl’s resolute expression and decided not to argue further. She followed the GPS and drove straight to the antique street.
At this hour, only the shops along the street were open; the small stalls on the ground wouldn’t appear until they were just looking for a gift, not trying to make a prolit, so they didn’t need many options

11:26 AM
The antique shop was enzy, not more than four hundred square feet, but it was well–organized with an array of antiques neatly displayed..
There was already a customer in the store, and the owner, who was giving her a detailed introduction, noticed Cynthia and Queena and greeted them warmly. Ladies, welcome! I’m all by myself here at the moment, so please take your time and have a look around, the owner said.
Cynthia nodded and guided Queena to the turquoise section to browse.
Queena pointed at a ring that seemed to have some history, visible behind the glass. “Cynthia, what do you think of this one? It says it belonged to an empress from over a hundred years ago. That’s got to be quite the antique, and I heard turquoise is good for health. It must be perfect for the elderly, right?”
Cynthia took a close look, shook her head, and whispered, “Don’t be fooled by its old look. It’s not as old as it seems, and it might not even be real turquoise.”
“What?” Queena’s mouth dropped in surprise. “Can it be fake?”
“You could say that on the antique street, a lot of items are misrepresented. They’re either modern replicas or outright fakes. So, people who aren? familiar with this kind of stuff usually don’t buy here Cynthia explained.
Listening to Cynthia, Queens was even more impressed. She gave a thumbs–up and praised Cynthia “Cynthia, you’re like a walking encyclopedia. I really admire you so much”
“Shhh.” Cynthia put her index finger to her lips. “Let’s not get kicked out by being too loud.
“Right, right.” Queena immediately lowered her voice.
But to others, this scene looked suspicious.
The customer browsing antiques had noticed them and was squinting her eyes, looking at the ring they were pointing at
Her name was Marina Henderson. She had just returned from abroad and was here to pick out a birthday gift for someone else, aiming to spend the least amount of money on a gift that seemed the most valuable. However, she didn’t know much about antiques and had been struggling to tell the good from the bad.
Now, seeing Cynthia and Queena whispering to each other, she thought they had spotted a real deal, which was why they were being so secretive. She immediately lost interest in browsing and wanted to snatch that turquoise ring for herself,
*Excuse me, I’d like that turquoise ring,” she said assertively.
The owner quickly went over and took the ring our of the glass cabinet Queena’s gaze followed the ring and she said with displeasure, “What’s going on! We were looking at this one.
The owner smiled and said, Tm sorry, but this lady has already claimed the turquoise ring. There are plenty of other antiques in the store. Maybe you could End something else?”
Hearing the owner’s words, Queena was indignant
“There’s a first–come, first–served rule. We saw this first, and you didn’t even ask if we wanted it before you took it away.”
Seeing Queena’s reaction, Marina felt even more convinced that this item was valuable.
