Branch Sixty One
Jessica looked up to see Xavier standing there. His face was calm as if he went for a stroll and ended up there.
“What happened that you ended up here?” he asked again.
Jessica lifted her eyes to the direction where the policemen clustered together.
“I had to call your guardians,” One of the men said when he saw her glare.
Was it that she did not want him to be aware?
“Stand up let’s go home,” Xavier said sternly.
He did not know how they got into the situation but it was something dishonorable for any Delgado to be in the police station.
“Are you not going to ask for a settlement?” Leslie asked.
It was not as if the money to be paid was anything big compared to the wealth of the family. Xavier did not see the need for compensation.
“We would go without it” Xavier announced.
He did not care to know how or why they were there and why Leslie suggested the settlement money.
“Stand up,” Xavier said again sternly.
Why did he have to come to the police station to pick her up despite his busy schedule? Jessica stands up slowly and gets up she has eye contact with Burke who entered the police station and has his eyes scan the whole place.
His eyes meet Jessica’s own but he keeps looking until he sees Emma and then rushes to her.
“Are you okay?” he asked as he crouched down to her level.
“You should not be asking her, your girlfriend attacked and physically tried to abuse the Madam of the Delgado family. I think you should apologize” one officer says.
Jessica felt her leg get heavy. She could not move. Her own husband had come in with an expression of do not disturb me while her ex had come in with such a caring attitude. It is kind of hard not to get jealous.
Burke squeezes Emma’s hand and then comes to stand in front of Jessica. Jessica looked at him and at his face. He looked tires but it was obvious he was happy.
“I would not settle” Jessica announced in annoyance.
Why was he living well after cheating on? After he dumped? After gaslighting her? After making her look like a fool and even almost blackmailing her? He was looking okay and there she was struggling with living with Xavier. It was his fault she was living the current life she lived.
Her announcement put Burke in a tight spot. He was pulling all the funds he had to give Emma a wedding but here she was doing something to drain the whole money he had.
“I want compensation for the dress” Jessica said pointing to the huge dirt mark formed by the drink poured on her. “I do not want to wear this cloth again so get a new one, same brand and same store. I cam give you details if need be.”
Burke could feel the annoyance in her voice. He knew she was a good and nice person who would have let Emma off the hook but maybe she was triggered by him.
“I would also like to claim for mental distress. Officer can you book something?” “Let’s talk for a moment,” Xavier said holding Jessica’s hand.
Why was she running a rampage for a few bucks? She did not pay for the dress he did and he could buy a few million dresses for her. He could ensure she never had to repeat any dress for the rest of the time they had together.
He pulled her and stopped in front of the police station. He saw her eyes lined with tears. It must be that something was going on. Suddenly he felt sorry for her and squeezed her hand. Surprised by his action Jessica jerked and looked him in the eyes.
“Why are you asking for a settlement?” he asked gently.
Jessica felt the teardrop to her cheek and she sniffed to get it back in. Why should have to cry because of those two people who made love difficult for her
“Can I know? ” he continued with a gentle tone.
“That is my ex-boyfriend and my friend who he cheated on me with,” Jessica said. “I guess seeing them together triggered something in me” she continued.
Xavier looked at her. Tear by tear kept falling down her face. She did not feel herself.
“I am sorry,” she said sniffing and then throwing her head to the back before blinking multiple times.
“Do you want the compensation for real?” Xavier asked still holding her hand.
“I just want them to suffer pain, if it is possible,” Jessica said honestly.Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
“Pain,” Xavier said slowly. “I would give them pain. Let’s allow them to go and you can go back home”
Something about the way Xavier said those words assured her that he would do what he promised.
“Okay,” she said slowly and nodded her head.
“Let’s go,” Xavier said as he turned to take her back inside the police station. Burke meets them at the entrance.
“Excuse us,” Xavier said with a stern expression.
Without a word, Burke went down on his knees and bowed his head. He looked so small while kneeling. Jessica ever thought she would see the top of his head ever in her life and she never thought this would be the way she would see it.
“Jes… Mrs. Delgado” he said as he corrected himself midway
“Is anything the matter?” Xavier answered instead.
For some reason, Xavier felt the urge to strongly beat up this man. He could not understand why he put Jessica through that much stress.
“Please can you settle without compensation,” he said his voice low.
“Emma is pregnant and we are preparing for a wedding. I am using all the money I have to give her the wedding of her dreams. We would not have the money to pay the compensation” he added his head still down.
Jessica had agreed to let it go and allow Xavier to handle it. She believed he had the power to do so so she was leaving it in his hands. But something about Burke giving Emma her dream wedding when she was made to settle with a court wedding burnt up her insides.
She felt to annoyed that she climbed closer to Xavier and ignored the kneeling man.
“Baby can you take me home?” she asked pulling up a cute face.
Confused at the recent change in her attitude and eyes Xavier could not help but find himself nodding to her.
“Okay”
