Fabian’s gaze fixated on the door, displaying a hint of hesitation. Suddenly, Alpha Kilian whipped his head around, his face reflecting displeasure. “Are you not listening to me?” he asked sternly.
“That’s not it, Alpha Morris… but we don’t need to find someone to unlock the door,” Fabian replied, approaching the lock. He spoke while glancing between the lock and Alpha Kilian. “I know how to do it…”
Alpha Kilian narrowed his eyes. After a brief silence, Fabian finally spoke up. “Should I open it now?” Alpha Kilian’s brows furrowed, and a glacial glint shone in his eyes.
Acknowledging the signal, Fabian began running his fingers across the digital lock, tapping rhythmically. Watching from behind, Alpha Kilian furrowed his brows uneasily.
He silently wished he was overthinking.
Watching Fabian attempt to unlock the door felt like an eternity. After several tries, Fabian successfully opened it and turned to face Alpha Kilian. Without a word, Alpha Kilian stepped forward, pulled the door open, and walked in. Fabian quickly followed behind.
Inside the apartment, everything remained unchanged. Contrary to expectations, there was no mess or signs of a fight.
After scanning the surroundings briefly, Alpha Kilian boldly headed towards Nelly’s bedroom. With each step, a heavy pressure seemed to weigh down on his chest. However, he paused just before reaching the door.
Emptiness filled his gaze as he peered inside.
The bed was neatly made, with no indication that someone had slept in it the previous night. Does this mean she didn’t sleep after I sent her back yesterday?
Fabian walked over and, upon seeing that the bedroom was empty, furrowed his brows.
“Alpha Morris…”
“Fabian, call Prosper Technologies. Find out if Nelly went to work,” Alpha Kilian’s voice was icy, his jaw tensed.
Even though he knew it was highly unlikely, he clung onto the last strand of hope.
Hearing the command, Fabian nodded and walked away to make the call.Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
When Alpha Kilian entered the room, he noticed not much had changed. Nelly’s clothes and shoes were still neatly placed, as if she had only gone to work for the day.
After a few minutes, Fabian returned with a hesitant look on his face. “Alpha Morris, Ms. Jackson didn’t go to work today. Alpha Yondel says-”
“What did he say?”
“He said that Ms. Jackson applied for leave.” “Applied for leave? When?”
“Two days ago.”
“Did he not tell you the reason?” Fabian shook his head. “No.”
Alpha Kilian clenched his fists, his face growing colder and more grim, filled with malice in his dark eyes.
“Alpha Morris, do you think it’s the doing of that mastermind? He purposely left that note to show that he took Ms. Jackson with him…” Fabian said concernedly.
“Even if it is him, he can’t take her away without causing a commotion. Nelly isn’t weak. Besides, he’s injured. And everyone was at the jetty last night. They didn’t have time to take action,” Alpha Kilian analyzed.
“So, is there another reason for that person to leave the note? But where could Ms. Jackson have gone?” Fabian appeared puzzled.
Alpha Kilian looked at the room. It didn’t seem like any violent confrontation had occurred there. It felt more like the aftermath of someone running away from home.
“Fabian.”
“Yes, Alpha Morris.”
“Search for surveillance cameras that might have captured footage of the Midnight Fang pack leaving the Moonwalk pack. Also, find out Nelly’s location. I need to know where she is right now!” Alpha Kilian commanded with an icy tone.
“Got it. I’ll do it right away,” Fabian said, making another call.
Meanwhile, Alpha Kilian stood by the bedroom door, lips tightly pursed and eyes scanning every corner. After a while, he withdrew his gaze and walked out expressionlessly.
Nelly, let this be a misunderstanding. Otherwise, don’t blame me for sounding the alarm!
In the car, Fabian drove while Alpha Kilian sat in the passenger seat, his face tense and radiating an unwavering aura.
It was so overpowering that Fabian dared not utter a single word. He knew his place and understood when it was appropriate to joke around. Just then, his phone rang.
Fabian answered the call immediately. “Hello.”
Upon hearing the words from the other end of the line, Fabian muttered, “Alright. I understand. Send the video to me. Also, how did things go with the address I asked you to check?” He paused as he listened to the caller’s response. “What? Okay, I got it.”
Alpha Kilian returned to his office and immediately dialed a number. “Dave, it’s me.”
“J? I’m surprised you’re calling me. I thought you’d forgotten about me.”
“Sorry, I’ve been busy lately.”
“I told you not to quit. Why did you start a company? It’s boring and tiring. Now what? Why don’t you quit and come back? We’ll always welcome you,” Dave teased.
“What would I do if I go back?”
“I don’t mind being your right-hand man if you come back. I’ll support you, okay?” Alpha Kilian smiled.
“Wouldn’t that make you miserable?”
“Not at all. Everything’s negotiable as long as you come back.”
“Alright, enough joking. I need your help with something.”
After a pause, Dave muttered, “I wasn’t joking with you.”
“I never thought of going back after I made up my mind to quit back then.”
“You’re still as boring as ever,” Dave commented. “Tell me, what do you want from me this time?”
“The same person. The one known as Boss. I want to know his movements and who he has met in Zaewora.”
“What’s the matter? Haven’t you resolved your grudge with him?”
“It’s not going to happen anytime soon,” Alpha Kilian said through gritted teeth.
“He really managed to anger you this time,” Dave noted. Then, he couldn’t help but ask in curiosity, “But J, you said you’re not in this line of work anymore, so how did you end up on his bad side?”
Alpha Kilian remained silent.
“Is it something you don’t want to talk about?”
“Not exactly, but I want to make sure before I tell you.”
“Alright, I understand.”
“How much time do you need?”
“A week.”
“That’s too long.”
“Come on, I’m busy. In addition, the people involved with Midnight Fang Pack are extremely private. The person you’re looking for isn’t an ordinary individual, so I’ll need time to make arrangements.”
“Two days.”
“Three!”
“Two!”
“J, if you come back and take charge, you’ll have the final say. I can even do it in one day.”
“Two days. Once I’m done here, I’ll come over right away.”
Dave froze. “You’re really coming?”
“Yes.”
“Seriously?” Dave sounded doubtful. “When are you coming? I’ll pick you up!”
“It depends on how quickly you can arrange it.”
“J, are you really going to take matters into your own hands for this man?”
“And more.”
“Oh? And more? Who else?”
“I said I’ll tell you once I’m sure of the answer.”
Dave fell silent for a moment, pondering over it. “Alright, then it’s settled. I’ll be waiting for you.” Alpha Kilian’s gaze darkened. He said nothing and ended the call. He turned to look out the window, a cold expression on his flawless face. His eyes narrowed, his jaw set, and the sharp lines on his face became even sharper. There was a layer of ice in his eyes as his lips curled into an arrogant grin.
Nelly, no matter where you are, I’ll find you.
Meanwhile, Tony sat on the balcony, his brows furrowed, staring at his phone with worry and doubt. He had called Nelly several times, but there was no answer.
Just as he was wondering what was going on, his phone rang.
Tony quickly picked it up, only to find that it was Thalia calling. He tensed up before answering. “Hello?”
“The arrangements have been made. Pick up the goods the day after tomorrow,” Thalia said.
“Okay, got it.”
“Don’t you have any questions?”
“Your arrangements will be fine.” Tony was preoccupied with other thoughts and wasn’t in the mood to discuss anything else.
“What’s wrong? You seem distracted. Did something happen?”
“Nelly isn’t answering my calls,” Tony began, furrowing his brows. He was worried that something had happened to Nelly again.
“Just because she didn’t answer your call, you’re already worried?”
“It’s unusual for Nelly to not answer my calls.”
“Phones can run out of battery or lose signal,” Thalia pointed out. “Maybe she’s busy working and turned off her phone.”
Tony’s brows remained furrowed. “I hope so.”
“Alright, if you’re really worried about her, I’ll check on her when I’m on my way, okay?” That cheered Tony up a bit. “Really? Thank you!”
“Look how excited you get when Nelly is mentioned. I hope you won’t turn out to be a mama’s boy.”
“Don’t worry. Someone like Nelly won’t raise a mama’s boy.”
“True,” Thalia agreed. “Alright, I won’t bring it up anymore. I was just calling to inform you about the arrangements. I have other things to take care of. I won’t be going back to the manor tonight. I’ll pick you up the afternoon after tomorrow.”
“Okay. Don’t forget to check on her for me.”
“Sure.”
Tony stared at his phone even after the call ended. Despite Thalia’s reassurances, he still felt uneasy.
After all, the last time Nelly didn’t answer his call, she had been in a car accident. It was natural for Tony to worry about her well-being.
With those thoughts in mind, Tony glanced at the laptop screen.
Regardless of everything, Nelly already knew, so he no longer had to fear being discovered.
A determined look appeared in Tony’s eyes as he closed the first window and placed his hands on the keyboard. With a quick click, he began typing lines and lines of code on the black screen, the white text changing rapidly.
