Chapter 80
"It's almost done. We'll be able to eat it soon!"
With this, Alicia looked at the boiling water on one side and sped up her movements. When the hot ravioli was served on the table, Alicia was still puzzled.
Alicia did not dare to inquire too much. Therefore, she asked a little at a time, "Grandma, does it taste good? Is it too salty?"
"It tastes good! You are getting better at cooking!" Mrs. Clements said.
"Grandma, you always praise me! I'm so embarrassed! Does Frederick like salty food?"
"He's not picky about food. He used to dislike carrots, but he eats it now. Men are easy to feed! They don't pay much attention to what they are stuffing their stomachs with!"
"He doesn't eat chicken essence, does he?"
"He's not a deity. Nowadays, all dishes are made with so many seasonings. Can he even tell if chicken essence is added? However, he dislikes mustard!"
Alicia nodded, but she was even more confused. Mrs. Clement claimed that he was easy to feed. Thus, why could she not serve him well? She had asked about every type of ingredient. What had she done wrong? However, after chatting for a while, she got some useful information out of Mrs.
Clements and smiled.
"Grandma, have some meat ravioli! Jus one. It won't be bad for you!"
Mrs. Clement was obviously very happy. Thus, she ate one. Alicia ate a few vegetarian ones before eating the ones with meat.
"Grandma, do you know about the girlfriend who Frederick used to care about the most? Tell me more about it!"
Before she could finish her words, there was a sudden snap. Alicia saw that Mrs. Clements' fork fell beside the plate and even the ravioli had fallen to the ground.
In fact, she suddenly recalled the gossip she heard from the club that day so she asked about it casually. She did not expect Mrs. Clements to have such a big reaction. In an instant, her heart suddenly sank.
Were the rumors true? Was there a woman who he used to care about deeply?
But soon, Mrs. Clements came to her senses and picked up the ravioli. "Ally, are you here to visit me or to inquire about your husband? Why are you constantly asking about Frederick?"
"Grandma-"
Alicia cried out coyly, but she did not deny it. "Both! I'm here to visit you, thus, I thought I could ask too!"
Mrs. Clements liked her honesty very much. Therefore, she did not hide it from her. Instead, she changed her way of explaining.
"Ally! The past does not matter! Don't be intimidated by his cold appearance! Frederick is only indifferent on the outside. He is actually warm, kind, and filial on the inside! There is a reason for his coldness towards women..."
Alicia nodded. She seemed to understand the meaning and said blandly, "Thus, he has been hurt by women before?"
This kind of suffering was one she could understand the most! Love hurts people more than knives and spears! Had his personality changed because of this, she could understand why.
"That may betrue!" Mrs. Clements answered.
Mrs. Clements sighed and said, "Frederick's mother has passed away, you should know that! Actually, Frederick's father, Christian's current wife is his third!"
Alicia looked up and she was really surprised.
"Frederick's mother was Christian's first wife. At first, they had a good relationship. Later, his business grew bigger and bigger. He became busy, which was inevitable. His mother went through a long period of pregnancy and illness. Therefore, they started to quarrel... Later, it was said that he had a mistress. Whether he had one or not, or if anything happened between them, I do not know for sure either!" Mrs. Clements said.
Alicia faintly felt that Frederick's parents' experiences might be the root cause of his change in character. Therefore, she listened quietly.
"When Frederick was three, his mother committed suicide because of depression! His father found a second wife after her death. She looked innocent, but who would have thought that she was really only pretending to be kind! She was just like a monster!"
Mrs. Clements' skinny hand trembled faintly, and Alicia could see that she was a little anxious. Hence, she reached out and held her hand. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
After a moment of silence, Mrs. Clements continued.
"She would say something good in front of Frederick but would change her actions afterward. Frederick was only three. How much could he know back then? She was hiding behind a gentle appearance. She also beat and tortured him. When no one was around, she would even keep him
in a dog cage for a whole day! If I hadn't forgotten to bring my ID card one day, I would never know that Frederick was abused to this extent. When I brought him back, he was only four years old. Yet, his eyes were filled with hatred. He no longer looked innocent as a child. He would not cry even if his feet were slashed by a knife! He never sleeps on the bed. He would always curl up beside the bed!"
In an instant, Alicia burst into tears. No wonder! How could there be such a cruel woman in this world?
"Frederick detested women. Perhaps, it started from here! Apart from that, his father married another woman after this. When he had stepbrothers and stepsisters, he became even more lonely! Maybe it was because of these experiences that he became more sensible. He was particularly strict with himself. If he puts his mind to something, he would even stay awake for days and nights to achieve it! No matter how busy he was, he would never forget to exercise. It was not just his hobby. He wanted to be stronger in terms of strength and abilities! When he was fourteen, he was the only one who could beat other people!"
Mrs. Clements' eyes were full of pride. She then suddenly thought of something.
"Do not be scared. Unless you push him to his limits, he would never hurt anyone. Even if it was the woman he detests the most! In fact, he has inherited his mother's nobleness! Perhaps, his mother had taught him well before she left! The experience he had after that did not completely ruin him!"
"I understand! Grandma, I just feel sorry for him!" Alicia said.
Mrs. Clements patted Alicia's hand.
"In fact, his father has always felt very sorry for him. There were times when he wanted to take him back, but Frederick did not want to. He grew up with me. Later, when his father got married again, he also promised that he would not get a marriage certificate for ten years. As long as she did not
treat Frederick well, even once, he would kick her out immediately! That is why, at least on the surface, Penny has never dared to go against Frederick!"
"Ally, Frederick has a weakness. He may have a bad temper for now, but he is not bad on the inside. He is definitely worth being entrusted with life. As long as you give this man your true love, he will give you everything! No matter what happens, he would protect you!" Mrs. Clements said.
Alicia smiled. There were tears in her eyes.
"Grandma, I understand! I will tolerate him and treat him well! We will take care of you together! Grandma, let's have dinner. The ravioli are getting cold!"
On this day, she accompanied Mrs. Clements until it was very late. Alicia held her arms and she did not want to leave.
"Grandma, do you despise me so much? How many times have you asked me to leave? I'll stay overnight to talk to you, isn't that good?"
"I want that too! But I'm afraid that your husband would not agree... Look, he has come to pick you up!"
When Alicia turned around in a daze, she saw Frederick standing at the door of the hall. She immediately got up from the sofa.
"Grandma!" he greeted.
"Well, aren't you worried that your beautiful wife is staying out late?" Mrs. Clements remarked. Alicia clearly felt that he had rolled his eyes at her.
Why was he doing that? She was not the one who called him over!
