Chapter 822
A forced smile appeared on Frederick's face as he nodded, "Yeah."
How could he not understand Chet's reasoning? But understanding it didn't mean that he had no feelings. Such a young life was about to be taken away so soon. It was depressing.
Being sympathetic and charitably giving parts of oneself away were two different things. Her request really was the latter that he just couldn't afford providing her with.
"What if she recovers half a year later? Won't my charity become a burden then?" He thought to himself. "What if Alicia gets heartbroken, resentful, or falls for someone else because of this?"
He couldn't hurt Ally anymore!
Even if it was really her dying wish, even if it was completely heartless of him, he had to fail her!
It was hard not letting this revelation affect his mood. Frederick took a deep breath and pushed the door open. "You can leave with the car!"
He entered the door in a daze. Just as he walked up the stairs, he heard the voice of an angry woman. "Divorce is a must! The principle of men is truly intolerable!"
Why was she so furious? Did she find out?
Frederick felt like he was a hazy cloud had casted over him.
Just when he was about to push open the door, he heard a soft voice saying, "Daisy..."
Was she on the phone?
Patting his chest, Frederick felt his legs turned to jelly. He was almost scared to death!
Sure enough, one must not commit guilty actions!
"Daisy, you've done the right thing! A moment of pain is always better than a lifetime of torture! In fact, there's one thing I didn't tell you! Your intuition is right!"
"Howard is a little out of the ordinary! If it's merely a big change in attitude before and after marriage, we can still adapt to it; but I don't think he's targeting you! Once, I saw him hugging a man and even calling him darling. Basically, they were very close! I've always been looking for a chance to tell you! Unfortunately, something happened and it was delayed, and now you've already gotten divorced!"
"Daisy, it's not your problem at all! His emotional abuse towards you, and his nitpicking, are not because you're not good enough, but because he's gay! If he didn't pick on you, how could he find an excuse to get away from you? Think about it, even if a guy is no longer interested in women, he still has instincts! Otherwise, where did those whores come from?"
"Daisy, you've done a good job! You did amazing, honey! Although I know I shouldn't say anything about your family background, I still want you to be happy. Don't lose yourself crying over such a man!"Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
Thinking of how Howard courted Daisy by being eagerly attentive towards her and sweet-talking his way to her heart, and then doing all those things with Hallie's husband, Laven, at the hotel, Alicia felt deeply sympathetic and angry at her excolleague.
Just like that, a nice girl became a gay man's wife and her life was turned upside down! A man had harmed a nice girl and an innocent child.
Listening to the person on the other end of the line talk miserably, Alicia felt a lump in her throat.
"Daisy, don't deny yourself what is right for you! You made the right call. I believe that a sensible girl like you will not regret this! Why was he so anxious and forced you to give birth to a second child? Why did you think he preferred boys more than girls? Do you think it's just mere bias? There's no denying that I also want a boy as my first child, but I'll still be overjoyed if it's a girl, and treat her like a princess, because she is my child! Don't you think this is the right way to go about things?"

"But he didn't choose to do things the right way! I have nothing against gay men, but draw the line at those who are homosexual but ruin women's lives to achieve their selfish purpose. When he married you, has he ever thought about your future? Daisy, you're not in the wrong here! Will a child in such a family grow up to be better off than being brought up by you alone? Are you afraid of loneliness, or do you want to live in the fear of being abandoned every day?"
Alicia felt sad as she tried her best to give her best friend some helpful advice.
"Daisy, betrayal is betrayal. It doesn't matter if this man loves a man or a woman! If my husband doesn't love me, care about me, and expects me to sacrifice for his so-called stupid lover, then I'd rather not want this man! Aren't all youth precious? No matter how painful it is, I'll get over it eventually! Even if I'm in my thirties, I'd still have many more beautiful years to look forward to, which is better than struggling alone for the rest of my life! Besides, you have the apple of your eye with you! I believe that even when she is all grown up, she'll understand the decision you made today! Daisy, you're still young, and so beautiful..."
They were both women, and they both had experienced the ups and downs of relationships. They understood each other on the deepest level. Alicia truly hoped that she could be well, and to have a baby of her own, just like her.
Outside the door, Frederick felt a shiver run down his spine as he continued eavesdropping. "That was close!" He thought to himself.
Indeed, he made the right decision.
He knew that the proud woman would be like this!
Frederick was in a daze for a while. He no longer heard any sounds from the bedroom. He then took out the plastic round contained from his pocket, pushed the door open, and went in.
When he saw that Alicia was still looking at her phone, he crept up beside her and said, "Ally, look at what I've brought you!"
As he hugged her, Frederick handed her the half box of melon seeds, like it was some sort of treasure.
Tilting her head and looking sideways at him, Alicia grabbed the box from his hand. At a glance, she saw some melon seed shells hidden among the peeled melon seeds.
Peeled by hand?
Although whoever did it did not do a neat job, and there weren't many melon seeds to eat, the thought moved Alicia.
Holding it tightly, she unconsciously lowered her head. "Did he peel all of them on his own? He must have spent quite some time doing this. Am I going a little too far?" She thought to herself.
She pursed her lips, and thought of what she had complained to Daisy earlier. She felt bad.
Frederick treated her a lot better in comparison to what Daisy was going through! With this, she realized that she didn't know how lucky she was!
Just as she was about to say something, Frederick heard his phone ring. He fished out his phone and turned his body to the side. "Hello, who is it?"
It was an unknown number. Alicia knew this as soon as she heard him saying that. Just as she was thinking of escaping, she faintly heard a female voice. "Frederick..."
Danica!
It was a familiar female voice. Even from a distance, Alicia was sure she could not have misheard it!
