Chapter 736
Chapter 736
The birthday gifts that lan prepared for Joshua were primarily antiques, calligraphy, and paintings. Kelly did not understand much about them.
However, while listening to lan’s introduction, she looked at the treasures from hundreds and thousands of years ago with her eyes widened in surprise.
She found lan too rich!
Ian finished his introduction and asked Kelly, “What do you think?”
The Walter family was rooted in Fesmuowana. Other than Ian who had the Hushe Republic’s blood, the rest were pure Fesmuowana people. They were not very interested in the Hushe Republic’s antique calligraphy and paintings.
They preferred something like oil paintings, sculptures, and jewelry.
That was why Ian brought Kelly over to take a look and ask for her opinion.
“I think they’re all very good.” Kelly nodded and said seriously, “I’m sure Grandpa will like any gift from you.”
Emmanuel, who was following behind, could not help but snicker when he heard this.
It was not that he underestimated Kelly, but he believed that Kelly didn’t have a clue about antique calligraphy and paintings, so Ian was wasting his breath to ask her opinion.
Instead of asking her, it was better to ask a Hushenian on the street.
Just as he was snickering, Kelly stopped in front of a landscape painting. She frowned and looked at it carefully.
“What’s wrong? Is something wrong with the painting?” Ian asked.
Kelly held her chin and tilted her head. “Is this Darian Sherard’s work?”
Ian nodded and said, “That’s right. Grandpa is a big fan of his paintings. Mr. Sherard is too far away from us. His works are rare. I’ve collected them for many years before I found one.”
“Where did you get it?” Kelly looked up and asked.
Ian signaled Emmanuel.
Emmanuel quickly explained, “It was obtained from a collector that the Walter family was familiar with. That collector cherished it very much. Mr. Walter gave up a lot to get it.”
“I see.” Kelly nodded. She leaned closer to the painting and took a closer look at it. “Can the collector be trusted? Is it possible that he lied to you guys?”
As soon as she finished speaking, Emmanuel’s expression changed.
He had always respected Kelly, but her behavior of questioning other people’s character and his ability to do things made Emmanuel very uncomfortable.
His tone turned colder. “Of course, he can be trusted. Mr. Hale has a very high reputation. He’s a famous appraiser.”
“Mrs. Walter, do you think there’s something wrong with this painting?” Emmanuel asked coldly.
Cyril secretly cast a few glances at Emmanuel, but the latter did not calm down.
Joshua’s birthday banquet was approaching. Kelly’s question on the authenticity of the painting was accusing them of not doing their job well.
Kelly did not realize that Emmanuel’s tone was unusual. Instead, she nodded and said, “I’m not too sure, but…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Emmanuel interrupted her coldly. “Do you know how to appreciate famous paintings too? Or are you suspecting that we didn’t do our job well and found a fake painting as a birthday gift for Mr. Phil?” Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
After saying that, Emmanuel turned to lan and stated, “Mr. Walter, you know my loyalty. I will never fool you. We respect Mrs. Walter, but I deserve her respect too. She’s not supposed to suspect us for no reason.
“Since she said it’s a fake, she should show me the evidence!”
Emmanuel showed his determination and wouldn’t budge an inch.
He was not a butler or servant but lan’s right-hand man. He was a trusted aide and could not accept being questioned.
Kelly blinked. She did not expect things to be so serious.
She was just a little suspicious.
Ian grabbed Kelly’s wrist and comforted her. “It’s okay. Don’t be afraid. Just say whatever you want.”
Ian’s words reassured Kelly. “Since it’s a gift for Grandpa, we have to be more careful. Since this painting is suspicious, then…”
“Mrs. Walter!” Emmanuel suddenly raised his voice and looked straight at Kelly. “Do you know how to appreciate paintings?”
Kelly shook her head. “No.”
Emmanuel sneered in his heart. “Then what makes you say that this painting is fake?”
Kelly said with an innocent look, “I didn’t say that. I was just a little suspicious.”
Emmanuel probed into it. “What’s the basis of your judgment?”
Kelly hesitated for a moment before saying, “Because I have the genuine one.”
