Chapter 750 Memories That Can’t Be Forgotten
Stella squatted down in front of him.
The child was very beautiful. He had big eyes, long blue eyelashes, a round face, and fair skin. He looked like a doll.
However, his eyes were red. He looked at Stella with caution and pursed his lips. He didn’t move or say anything.
Sheldon asked the others to leave the room first.
Stella glanced at the window and found that Dianne was still there.
She smiled and took out five candies from the boxes. She asked the child, “Here are five candies, apple-flavored, watermelon-flavored, strawberry-flavored, grape-flavored, and lemon-flavored. Which one do you like?”
The child stared at Stella and judged that Stella was harmless, so he picked up the grape-flavored candy warily.
Stella took the candy in his hand, peeled off the wrapping, and handed the candy to him.
The child then put it in his mouth.
Stella also took a grape-flavored candy from the box and put it in her mouth. She asked casually, “Do you miss your father?”
The child looked at Stella and shook his head, saying, “My father has already gone to heaven a long time ago.”
“Didn’t you see your father yesterday?” Stella asked immediately.
The child shook his head and said, “It was the day before yesterday. He looked like my father. He took me to buy hamburgers. But as I was eating it, I fell asleep and when I woke up…”
The child’s eyes became red, and tears flowed out instantly, “I want my mother, I want my mother.”
He looked out of the window and cried, “Mom, mom…”
Seeing the helpless look on his face, Stella’s heart ached a little.
He was, after all, a two-year-old child. Perhaps, he still didn’t understand that he was already an orphan.
Stella took out a box of candy from her bag and shook it to make a sound.
The child was attracted by the sound and looked at Stella.
Stella handed the box to the child, “This is a box of fruit candy that I have here, and I’ll give it all to you. Be good, okay?”
The child’s tears were still pooled in the corner of his eyes as he went to take the box of fruit candy from Stella’s hand.
Before giving it to him, Stella smiled. “Could you answer a few questions for me? In addition to Mom, Grandma, and Grandpa, who do you like the most?”Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
The child thought for a moment and said, “I like Uncle Joker the best. He has a lot of toys, and he gave me a lot of them.”
“Apart from Uncle Joker?” Stella asked.
The child shook his head and went to get the candy in Stella’s hand. Stella gave it to him and gestured towards the people on the outside, “Call the five-year-old child over.”
…
The assistant took the child away. After a while, she brought the five-year-old child over.
The child’s name was Neil, and his face was filled with anger. He looked at Stella defiantly, with hatred in his eyes and murderous intent.
Stella smiled and said gently, “Don’t be afraid. I won’t hurt you. I’m your mother’s good friend. She asked me to treat you to a meal. What would you like to eat?”
“Are you really sent by my mother?” Neil asked in disbelief.
“Let’s talk in my car, okay?” Stella walked ahead and opened the door.
Dianne then stood in front of Stella and said, “It’s not good for you to take him out. After all, we need to manage him. It’s not good to break the laws and regulations.”
“What laws and regulations did I break?” Stella looked at her and asked with piercing eyes.
“The children in the orphanage are not allowed to go out, otherwise, they will start to rebel,” Dianne insisted.
“Sheldon, call Director Vann and tell him to contact the State Mayor. Tell him to ask the State Mayor to ask Dianne if I could bring a child out for lunch,” Stella said seriously.
Dianne replied guiltily, “Alright, alright. Then you guys should sneak out, don’t let the other children see you.”
“Neil, when you leave, don’t speak without thinking, don’t stir up trouble too. Otherwise, your little friends will be in trouble,” Dianne warned Neil.
Stella gave a faint smile and locked her gaze on Dianne.
From the assistant’s nervousness, to Dianne’s strong opposition, and the warning, she was sure that that orphanage was hiding secrets.
“Let’s go, Neil,” Stella walked ahead.
Neil lowered his head, tightly pursing his lips as he followed behind Stella.
“Neil, what do you want to eat?” Stella asked.
“I want to eat a hamburger,” Neil said.
“Okay, I’ll take you to get that now,” Stella said with a smile and looked at Sheldon, “Sheldon, help me do something…”
…
Stella got in the car, handed a box of fruit candy to Neil, and asked casually, “Do you not like Dianne?”
“I really don’t like her,” Neil said seriously, his face filled with certainty.
“Why is that?” Stella asked.
“She often hits me, scolds me, and doesn’t give us food to eat. Also, she beat Daker to death. I saw it with my own eyes,” Neil said in a huff.
“Daker?” Stella asked.
“He is a twelve-year-old child who took good care of me. He was the only one who gave me food in secret, but he couldn’t speak. It was because he gave me food that he was beaten to death by Director Dianne,” Neil said hatefully.
“Sheldon, I think that it’s very necessary to investigate Dianne,” Stella said to Sheldon.
“Okay, I’ll do it when I get back,” Sheldon replied.
Stella patted Neil’s head and said, “I’m here to help you.”
The look on Neil’s face softened slightly as he thanked Stella, “Thank you.”
“Neil, do you know someone called Uncle Joker?” Stella asked casually.
“I know him. He gave me many toys in the past, but after what happened to my mother, he never appeared again,” Neil said sadly.
“Do you still remember what he looks like?” Stella asked.
“Uncle Joker is a clown with colorful hair. He has a red nose, and a big mouth,” Neil replied.
“How many times have you seen each other?” Stella asked again.
Neil pursed his lips. After a bit of hesitation, he said, “I promised Uncle Joker that I wouldn’t tell others. Uncle Joker treats me well. He bought me many toys and gave me a lot of good food.”
“However, Uncle Joker hasn’t appeared for a long time. He might be ill, or perhaps he might not be able to find you. I want to help you,” Stella rubbed Neil’s head and coaxed him gently.
Neil was convinced. “Uncle Joker often came to my house. He would always come when there is no one else at home. He told me to keep it a secret and not tell anyone about things between him and me.”
“Neil, think about it. Did he appear two months before your father’s return?” Stella asked.
Neil shook his head, “I don’t remember.”
“Do you remember how you two first met?” Seeing that he didn’t remember, Stella asked another question.
“My mother was holding my hand while we were in the shopping mall then. That’s where I met Uncle Joker. He gave me some toys and gave my mother some roses. Then, a few days later, Uncle Joker came to look for me and gave me some new toys. He made an agreement with me that as long as I didn’t tell anyone, he would still come and give me toys. Oh, right, he comes by every three days. He would give me a new toy every time he came. I obtained a total of seven toys,” Neil answered.
Stella understood the situation then. “Where are the toys now?”
Neil shook his head as his eyes turned red, “The toys are gone. Mom, Grandpa, and Grandma. They’re gone, too.”
“You should grow up well, study hard, and learn new skills. You will still have the opportunity to find your loved ones n the future,” Stella consoled Neil.
The car stopped in front of a burger shop and Stella bought some burgers for Neil.
When they came out of the shop, Stella noticed that a car was coming straight for her.
Stella stopped and did not move. A memory flashed across her mind. It seemed that she was about to hit by a car before, and then, a man appeared and saved her.
She couldn’t remember what the man looked like, but her heart started to ache all of a sudden.
She pressed on her chest. She did not seem to have the energy to care about the car that was coming straight at her…
