BIT 10
Chapter 10
On the phone screen, a picture of Harvey and Alicia passionately kissing at a fine dining restaurant in New York spread wildly on the internet. Although they were not celebrities, Harvey was quite famous as a New York billionaire, and Alicia was a former model who had once walked the runway with Gigi Hadid.
“Third–party always wins: Harvey Specter chooses Alicia Fox. Where is his wife now?”
Rebecca wiped away the tears that were about to fall. “I bet Alicia will hold a press conference to defend herself and use this moment to make a comeback in the modeling world,” she muttered bitterly.
“People nowadays are very savvy about the news. They surely know that you are the one who’s been hurt,” Nicholas replied, taking his phone back from Rebecca’s hand.
Rebecca cleared her throat softly.

“Nic, just because I want to be alone doesn’t mean I’m still crying over my relationship with Harvey. I just want to clear my mind. So can you leave me alone? No offense, you can come back later,” she said, pleading with her eyes.
After a few seconds of silence, Nicholas nodded. “Don’t even think about turning off your phone and making me worry, okay?” he said, then raised his right hand and patted Rebecca’s head, making her wince awkwardly
“Are you sure you’ll be okay?”
“Nic, come on! I just broke my right leg, I’m not completely paralyzed,” Rebecca replied desperately. Nicholas grinned, “Alright! Just, please be careful!”
“I will.”
After Nicholas disappeared behind the door, Rebecca took a deep breath. She knew she should be grateful that Nicholas was there for her, but her body’s reaction said. otherwise. She wanted to be alone.
“Okay, Becky, you gotta pull yourself together!” she slapped her cheek once, quite hard. She ordered an iced coffee and a large cheese muffin, then wheeled her chair closer to the window and started scrolling through her iPad.
She ordered cheap furniture online to furnish her tiny studio apartment and bought a

camera that almost drained her savings. All the items arrived just two hours after she completed the payment. She wanted to do everything quickly because she didn’t want Nicholas to do everything for her.
“Thanks,” she said, handing a tip to the courier who helped her arrange all the furniture. she had ordered.
“It looks better,” she murmured, looking around her tiny apartment. Suddenly, an idea. flashed in her mind when her gaze stopped at the khaki two–seat sofa she had covered with a boho–patterned blanket.
Carefully, she tried to move from her wheelchair to the sofa with the help of her normal left leg, and it turned out to be easier than she had imagined.
“Nicholas is too worried. This is quite easy for me to do myself,” Rebecca said, patting the sofa proudly. Suddenly, she felt much better. Her situation wasn’t as bad as she had thought: She could definitely achieve her goals.
With more confidence, she turned on the camera and started recording a video of herself. She was a little surprised to find that she looked more beautiful than she had thought all this time. Her marriage to Harvey had destroyed her self–esteem because she was never loved. She had tried everything to make Harvey see her differently, but it had all been in vain.
Her hand continued scrolling through her iPad, looking for the latest trends. After getting some ideas for content for her newly created social media account, she hurriedly ordered a large amount of skincare and makeup, thinking her savings would soon be gone.
The clock on her phone screen showed 8 PM. She was just about to cook instant noodles when her doorbell rang. She wheeled her chair to the door, annoyed that she couldn’t peek through the peephole,
“Hey!” Nicholas shouted as the door opened wide.
Rebecca smiled, feeling happy, not because of his presence, but because of the Chinese food he was carrying.
“Wow! Are you a magician or a wizard?” Nicholas exclaimed, looking around the room, which felt homier after being filled with furniture and boho–themed wall decorations.
Rebecca shrugged, “I was even thinking of casting a spell to heal my leg, but it turns out

my magic skills aren’t that advanced,” she replied, half–joking.

Nicholas smiled broadly, not because Rebecca’s joke was funny, but because she finally managed to laugh, even if faintly.
“Let me set it up! I already bought the tableware!” Rebecca exclaimed, reaching for the food bag from Nicholas’s hand, then wheeling her chair to the small cabinet near the sofa where she kept her four sets of tableware.
“You bought a camera? And lighting too?” Nicholas murmured, frowning at the camera on the table. Rebecca didn’t respond, embarrassed to tell Nicholas she wanted to become an influencer.
“Becky? Is there a reason why you bought this video recording equipment?” Nicholas asked as he approached Rebecca and helped her set the tableware.
Rebecca took a deep breath, “Um, I can’t answer that right now,” she replied without looking Nicholas in the eye.
“You’re not planning an online press conference or anything, are you? Becky, haven’t I told you to get Harvey and Alicia out of your head? They-”
“I never thought of doing that! Jeez! I mean, what’s the point for me now? People won’t believe the words of a wife who came from an orphanage, they’ve labeled me a gold digger from the start,” Rebecca interrupted, pouring rice onto a plate.
Nicholas just stayed silent, waiting.
Rebecca took a deep breath, “I’m trying to become a digital content creator, people call it an influencer or something like that, I want to make myself famous,” she said, staring emptily at the paper bowl of Kung Pao Chicken.
Nicholas was surprised, “What?”
Nicholas’s tone sounded strange, annoyed Rebecca, “You sound like you hate the idea,” she remarked. Even though Nicholas’s opinion wouldn’t affect her decision much, she was still curious about why Nicholas always seemed unsupportive when she told him she wanted to appear in public.
“Well, I thought there were other jobs you might enjoy more. I mean, becoming famous can be a bit uncomfortable, right? Isn’t it more pleasant to make your life more private now? For your own sake,” Nicholas replied seriously.

Rebecca stared at Nicholas, contemplating whether to explain to him that she wanted to be famous so her voice could be heard, so she could get the justice she wanted, so she could know what Alicia did to make her pregnancy seem like it never happened. But what came out of her mouth was-
“I like being famous. I will have value, and I will definitely have money!”
She was quite surprised to see Nicholas smiling broadly as if a heavy burden had just been lifted from his shoulders after hearing her answer, “Alright, if that’s your goal, then I will fully support you. Let’s eat!”
Rebecca winced, not understanding what was going on in Nicholas’s mind. Could Nicholas truly want the best for her, or did he have other motives?
