Chapter 73 Receiving Compliments
"Wait a minute." Cathy started jogging after Brendon.
At the sound of her voice, Brendon turned around and frowned. Although he had not interacted with Cathy before, he found her constant show of delicate and attention-seeking behavior since her arrival quite distasteful.
"What is it?" he asked.
Cathy gestured in the direction of Blanche.
"Do you like Blanche? I saw you two chatting just now."
Brendon lowered his eyes. His heart thumped hard at her words.
Did he like Blanche? They had only just met.
However, he couldn't deny that he felt comfortable around her.
"I'm sorry, but who I like is none of your business. Similarly, I don't like others guessing my thoughts."
What an actor, Cathy thought contemptuously but still managed to smile.
"You've misunderstood. I can tell that you're fond of Blanche. I was just trying to match you two. You don't know, but Blanche and I are good friends. We just had a bit of a misunderstanding recently, and she's upset with me, which is why we may seem at odds."
A moment passed.
"You mean Blanche is single?"
Finally, he asked the crucial question. Cathy's heart was filled with delight as she lied without batting an eyelid.
"Of course. I assure you she's single."
"Then what's her relationship with Mr. Herbart?"
Brendon always felt an indescribable awkwardness between them. Louis had said Blanche was his employee, but she had denied it. When Louis asked again, she said they had just met.
However, he felt there was more to it.
"My goodness, you do not think that Blanche and Mr. Herbart are a couple, are you? You're so silly. Blanche is decent, but entering the Herbart family is no easy task. You should feel free to pursue her." Cathy said exaggeratively, making her claim seem quite plausible.
Brendon was skeptical. "Really?" This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
"I swear it's the truth. Moreover, Blanche is not only beautiful but also very talented. You better make your move soon. We won't be here for long. Good luck!"
With that, Cathy made a cheering gesture and dashed off.
Busy picking oranges, Blanche suddenly sneezed. Unbeknownst to her, Cathy, who regarded her as a thorn in her side, had just given her a big compliment, praising her for being beautiful and talented.
It was indeed a rare occurrence.
...
Two hours later, everyone sat in small groups on the flat ground of the orchard, packing oranges.
Blanche was head down, placing oranges in the box. The owner of this orchard, Mary Greece, was also in Blanche's group, packing together.
Noticing Mary had glanced at Blanche a few times, someone in the group started a conversation.
"Mary, does your son have a girlfriend?"
Mary chuckled. "Not yet. Are there any single ladies here? Introduce them to me. I won't let them be wronged."
As she spoke, Mary took another look at Blanche, who was busy packing oranges. She had noticed her son, Brendon, approaching Blanche earlier. It seemed her son, who was usually single-minded, had taken a liking to this girl.
Moreover, this girl was very diligent. Among everyone, she was the only one who was working hard. She was fast and efficient, tall and slim, quite a match for her son.
Although Blanche wore a mask that covered part of her face, Mary had a very good first impression of her.
