Chapter 59
A test
“What do you mean? Ha! You must be crazy Barbra, ain’t pregnant. I’m just sick, it’s normal being feverish.”
“You’re acting dumb, there’s a possibility of you being pregnant.”
“I’m not okay, I’m not pregnant.”
“How about we run a test. A pregnancy, just to confirm.”
Elina rolled her eyes.
“Now!”
“Oh please.”
“I gonna get one you just stay put.” She warned walking out of the bathroom. Elina stares at space.
It could be she’s pregnant, besides they didn’t have any protection against pregnancy. Just now. When she’s getting her life back.
This had to happen
She’s just eighteen!
For crying out loud, how could she be so stupid?
She clasped her hands together, whispering a short prayer. Before Barbra comes back.
And if it is positive, there’s no other option than abortion, getting rid of the baby.
She couldn’t have the baby, there’s no way she could, he’s getting married next week Friday, and she’s here. Trying to get her life back and boom!
She’s pregnant!
How ironic!
For the man who never once loved her. Man who was a threat to her.
Damn!
Her life was so messed up, she couldn’t even think of the pain that comes with pregnancy. And carrying a big tummy all over her hood.
How could she do that?
“I’m back. Don’t tell me you’re thinking about it already.”
“I can’t be pregnant.”
“You can’t be Elina, it gonna be a game over for you if you’re truly pregnant.”
“Place it in your pee.” She instructed.
“I’ll be waiting outside for the results.” She gave her the test strip, reluctantly, she took it from her hold. Barbra takes glared at her resistance then walked away. She gently shut the door behind her.
Settling down. In the bed. Patiently waiting for her to come out of the bathroom. The possibility of her being pregnant was high and being pregnant would come with a whole lot of trouble, a pregnancy she can’t keep but she can’t advise her to ruin it either.
It took hours for her to get out of the bathroom, which got Barbra worried, just when she was about to get out of the bed and knock on the door, she came out. With puffy eyes. Barbra stood up, reaching out to her.
“Where’s is it? What does it say?”
“It’s fake.”
“What do you mean it’s fake?”
“It’s fake, I can’t be pregnant.”
With that, Barbra grabbed the test strip off her hands.
And stare down at it.
It shows a positive sign…
Her jaw dropped, staring at Elina.
“You’re pregnant Elina.”
“I can’t be pregnant, there has to be a mixup somewhere. It can’t be.
“How about we go over to the hospital, and check them. Let’s get an accurate result. I can’t be pregnant not now, I know what I’m talking about.” She was about to break down.
“It’s okay. We’ll get through this.”
She cried. Hugging her tight.
“I don’t want this..” she cried harder.
“It’s okay, stop crying El. Stop it. We’ll go to the hospital and do a proper check-up.”
They disengaged from the hug, Barbra wipe her tears off.
“Freshen up, we’ll go over to a hospital, a good one. Okay.”
Elina nodded.
“And if truly I’m pregnant..” she sniffed.
“I’m gonna get rid of it.”
“You want an abortion?”
“Yes.”
“Elina!” She half yelled.
“It’s risky.”
“I’m gonna take the risk.”
“Elina.” It was a low whisper now. Then she exhaled.
“I know a good doctor though, I don’t want you to do this. But if you insist. You could go over to meet him.”
“Thank you.” She sniffed.
“Let’s check-up first, then we’ll know what’s we’re gonna do next.”
Elina nods. Walking back into the bathroom.
“I’ll be waiting in the dining, Let’s have breakfast before we go.”
Without getting a reply from Elina. She walked out of the room. With a sign.Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
They never thought of this happening, but it did happen.
She can’t let Elina go for an abortion, it might not favor her. If having the baby was an issue, they could have it, to save her life.
But she would prefer not to have it.
She was just confused.
How would Elina feel?
She was pregnant for God’s sake for someone who wouldn’t accept it.
Elina has a slight breakfast before she left the house. Boarded a cab and drove off towards the hospital, Barbra talked about.
A man with a hoodie came out of his hiding, with a devilish smirk, he pulled out his phone from his pocket.
Turning to his side.
“Boss.”
“Yes, any news.” The voice which was quite familiar replied on the phone.
“Found the girl, outskirts the town, she’s living with a friend.”
“Good job, we’ll take it from there. Leave there now.”
“Yes, boss.” He smirk again, hung up on the phone. Stuffed it back into his pocket and ambled away.
Just then, Elina looked back. Seeing a black figure fading out of the street they came out from.
Who was that?
She cranes her neck a little.
“What are you staring at?”
“I thought I saw someone, he looked strange.”
Barbra twitched her head backward, she didn’t see anything.
“Could be a passerby.”
“He seems like a stalker.”
“It can’t be, we’re far from the city.”
Elina shrugged.
“Just saying.”
She exhaled Placing her head on Barbra’s should. “Maybe it’s because I’m just feeling somehow about this whole thing.”
“You’ll be fine.”
“I don’t know what to feel right now.”
“It’s okay, don’t think of anything. Take a deep breath and close your eyes. Think of it as a dream.”
Elina did as same and slowly, relaxed a bit.
“Don’t get work up to about it. We’ll get it all sort out.”
Elina nodded with her eyes shut.
“I’m looking for doctor Lucas,” Barbra said white Elina was seated.
“Is she expecting you?”
“Not really?”
“Can you call him, tell him Barbra Dias is here and we need his attention. Something urgent. Please.”
The receptionist sigh. Placing a call through the doctor.
They talked for a while on the telephone while Barbra waited patiently for them to be through.
She turns to Barbra with another sigh.
“You can go in. Take a turn by your left and..”
“I know his office, thanks.”
She rolled her eyes.
Barbra scurried off her sight, urging Elina to stand on her feet. And took her towards his office.
“Don’t be a lazy ass.”
“C’mon El.”
“I’m trying..”
Barbra knocked once they arrived at the door of his office.
“Come In Barbra.” His voice raised from inside.
Barbara opened the door and walked in with Elina beside her. Her jaw dropped when she took in the figure sitting on the easy chair.
Her eyes popped out of his socket when he as her too, he jumped from the chair he was on.
“Hot legs.” He smirked. With pure excitement in his voice.
“I know you would come. I said it!” He half yelled like someone who won a lottery.
Then he smiled.
“Lucas,” Elina whispered. She felt she could just disappear. When Barbra mention Lucas, she had no idea it was the man from the other night at the bar.
“You know each other?” Barbra asked.
“Remember the night Aziel took me home, he was there at the bar, that’s where we met.” She whispered to Barbra.
“Oh!” Barbra mouthed.
“How did you know Lucas.”
“Have you forgotten, I was once in the game.”
“Bitch.”
“Not as bitchy as you’re.”
“What a pleasant surprise to see you here. Come have a seat. C’mon girls.”
Barbra nudged Elina by the shoulders, she hesitated before taking a seat in front of his desk.
“Lucas we came here for something urgent. You guys could sort out about your thing later on.”
“So why are you here?” He asked while staring at Elina with a smile.
“For a..”
Elina nudged her by the elbow.
Barbra coughed.
“A pregnancy test.” She rushed her words.
The smile on his face fades off.
“For who?”
She couldn’t meet up his gaze, she kept them down on her feet. The embarrassment she felt was overwhelming. His gaze lingers on her. Watching her, observing her, and studying her reactions.
Then he leaned back on his chair.
“Go over the next room and we’ll get you checked.” His voice that was jovial a while ago, was deadpanned.
She nods slowly but didn’t know how she was gonna stand up from the seat she was in.
She had to force herself up the chair, and with her head up, walked out of the office, leaving them alone. Not quite long, he followed after her, leaving just Barbra in the office.
“Are you okay?”
Elina sniffed with a nod. Leaning her head on her shoulders again. She wants nothing else than leave this place, she doesn’t wanna come here, she just wanna go home and she doesn’t want him either.
“You’ll be fine.”
Lucas came into the office with the test results. He sighed as he slumped down on the chair.
“She’s pregnant.” He said to Barbra. Then swap his head towards Elina.
“Elina Brooke. You’re pregnant. Three weeks have gone.”
