Chapter 62
Chapter 62
Emmett's eyes still didn't move away from her face, not allowing any subtle change of expression to go unnoticed. He stared at her like a man solving his first puzzle, determined and serious.
Alyssa was also staring at him this whole time. If outsiders were to see them now, they would've felt the tension rising on the rooftops. They were like a pair of kids, just waiting for the other to budge.
In the end, she's the first one who turned away.
They were just one person?
No matter how much Alyssa thought about it, she couldn't help but feel that the idea was ridiculous!
Seeing the constantly changing expression on her face, Emmett couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed in himself. Perhaps it really wasn't the right time to say it now. It must be too sudden.
He retracted his gaze and slowly drank the mouthful of water. "If I said no, would you believe me?"
Hearing the incredulity in his voice, her shoulders sagged in relief. "Of course not! Do you really think I'm that easy to fool?"
"Of course not!"
She was easily deceived, that was not his thought, but a fact.
After dinner, Alyssa finally returned to her room. Even then, she couldn't help but think back to Justin's words. "Why would he tease about something like this?"
Although she hadn’t spent long time with Justin, she could tell that he was the type of man who couldn't be manipulated. No matter how strongly his elders may try, he wouldn't allow himself to get married if he didn't want to.
No matter who married into the Lawrence, if it had been her or Skylar, Emmett must've done a background check on them.
At that time, she had just been 'ugly and stupid’. Skylar, although beautiful, had been too chaotic and promiscuous for the Lawrence family to allow such a union. They wouldn't make reputable wives.
If Justin was really Emmett, then he wouldn't need to marry her or Skylar.
Furthermore, their personalities were different. While “Justin” was the type of man who was forward and straight to the point, Emmett was distant and cold. There was no way they could be the same person, right?
At this analysis, she calmed down and brought her pajamas into the bathroom.
When she came out after bathing, she heard her phone rang.
Not bothering to see who called, she picked up.
"Did you skip work today?"
Alyssa blinked when she heard Jason's harsh voice echoing from the other end of the line. Turning on
the hands free setting, she placed it back on her bed and began to dry her hair. "Dad's really well- informed. I went home after I went out this morning. But it was already late at night when you found out that I had skipped work.”
During the day, the man who had gone to do market research with her must've been set up by Manager Black. He must've wanted to exact revenge on her.
Otherwise, if Skylar was the only one who had done it, she wouldn't have the gut to tell Jason with fear of getting scolded.
Perhaps, Skylar had gotten involved in this matter as well. After confirming that the person hadn’t succeeded, she raced straight to Jason and reported it to him.
Skylar really spared no effort to deal with her.
She hadn’t settled that matter with Skylar about the Sky Light Club yet!
That day in Jason's office, Alyssa deliberately said that Skylar had been to Sky Light Club again. At first, she wanted to test Skylar out to know if she really was the one who had placed her there in the first place.
Although the mastermind behind that incident could only be Skylar, she still had to confirm it.
Jason didn't know anything about what had happened to Alyssa that day, so as soon as he heard her arrogant tone, he grew even angrier. "Alyssa! Do you really think that I can't control you just because you're Young Madame Lawrence now?"
"If you really want to control me, you can do it at any time," Alyssa responded lazily.
Besides, ever since she was young, Jason had never cared for her. The only times he ever looked for her was because he needed her, nothing more and nothing less.
Jason remained silent with astonishment for a while. He coldly said. "If that's all you have to say, then we'll talk about it more once we get to the company."
Without another word, he hung up her phone fiercely.
At the Moore’s Villa, Skylar brought a glass of water to her father. "What did Alyssa do to make you so angry?"
"She thinks that she's so great just because she had gotten married!" Jason was so furious that he slammed his hands on her desk. "Now, she's just looking down on everyone!"
Skylar sighed, stroking his back to calm him down. "Dad, Alyssa really has gone too far this time around. You're so good to her, but she still wouldn't take you seriously. Maybe it's time to teach her a lesson."
Hearing this, Jason pondered for a moment, before nodding. Perhaps, this made more sense.
…
As for what Jason had said, Alyssa had long expected that this matter would not be over.
But now that she dared to go to the Moore Group, she wasn't afraid.
Hazel was still filming outside the cityscape, and Alyssa didn't have many friends in Herton City. That's why she didn't do much on the weekends except for watching television dramas and writing scripts.
After all, she wasn't planning to stay in Moore Group for very long. She had always wanted to be a scriptwriter anyway.
She didn’t know what “Justin” had been busy for the past two days, he rarely showed up himself at home. She didn't know whether to be happy about it or be suspicious about his sudden disappearance. Either way, it saved her a lot of trouble.
Monday morning.
She heard the car engine sounding at midnight last night, so she had assumed that “Justin” arrived as well.
That was the only reason why she had made two servings of breakfast that day, but she was definitely going to make him work for it. "That bastard isn't going to get everything he wants!"
When she carried her breakfast tray towards the dining room, she saw “Justin” leaning against his seat.
This was the first time they had met face to face since last Friday.
She still couldn't help but be annoyed with what he had said that day. Sitting down right next to him, she placed her breakfast on the table and looked at Justin. "Go to the kitchen if you want to get your breakfast." This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.
Emmett didn't say a word. Instead, his gaze fell on her breakfast.
Her breakfast was quite simple, just porridge and two egg pancakes.
Alyssa felt according to his gaze that he would fight for the food with her.
Not bothering to say another word, she lowered her head and took a bite of her egg pancake. "See if you're going to get this down," she said mockingly.
From an outsider's perspective, she was acting quite childish.
However, she didn't expect for him to act even more childish than her!
He directly stood up and he grabbed the tray from her hands with his long arms.
"Do you really think it's that hard?" Justin raised up an eyebrow before taking a bite at the pancake to where she had bitten.
Alyssa wasn’t experienced in getting along with men before, so she blushed. "You're shameless!"
Emmett placed his chopsticks back on the table. His face was still serious. "I haven't even touched you. Why are you scolding me?"
Not knowing what else to say, Alyssa turned around and went back into the kitchen to get the second serving. She had finished it in the kitchen before coming out, all good to go.
Emmett had already finished his breakfast when she came out. At the sight of her empty plate, the
corners of his lips twitched upwards in surprise.
Seeing her disappear, Emmett couldn’t help but smile.
She really was something else.
Perhaps it was a good thing that he hadn't revealed himself as Emmett just yet so that he could get to know this other side of her.
Although he had been very busy these past two days, he still remembered the time she had come back early last Friday.
Skylar's heart was vicious, so she'd definitely think of ways to deal with Alyssa. However, Emmett wasn't going to make a move. After all, it was interesting for him to see Alyssa fighting against them again and again.
Although that was what he had thought, his body seemed to have thought otherwise.
He quietly stood up and walked out.
