Departure with a Belly (Alaric and Victoria)

Chapter 457

Chapter 457

“Let me leave.”

Victoria was still putting up a fight. Though her voice was soft and feeble, she

continuously reached out to push the guards out of the way. Alas, there was more than

one person guarding the door, and if they did not make way for her, there was no way

for her to leave.

“I really have something important to do.”

“What’s so important?”

All of a sudden, a voice rang out, causing the crowd to jolt in surprise. When they

looked over the source of the voice, they noticed that Bane had returned, and he strode

briskly toward Victoria before entering the ward. Upon seeing his arrival, the rest

backed out of the room, closing the door behind them.

As she looked at the tall and handsome man before her, Victoria furrowed her delicate

eyebrows slightly. However, she recalled that he was the one who had helped her, and it

seemed that the two of them were quite close from his actions. With that thought, her

trust in him grew slightly.

“You’re back. They won’t let me leave, and they said I have to wait for you to come back.”

“Yeah, I went to talk to the doctor about your condition.”

Victoria immediately turned nervous at his mention of her condition. “My condition? Is

there anything wrong with me?”

Bane glanced at her. Amused by her twitchy expression, he curled his lips upward.

“Yeah. The doctor told me that there’s a small problem.”

“What problem?” Upon hearing that there was actually something wrong with her

condition, she grew even more frantic.

“This isn’t an urgent matter.” However, Bane did not answer her question and instead

said, “Before I answer, why don’t you answer one of my questions first?”

Victoria paused at his words. “What?”

“When I just came back, I heard you telling the guard that you had something important

to do.”

Victoria nodded.

“What is it that’s so important?”

This question caught Victoria off guard, and she froze in place with a dazed expression. What is it that’s so important? That’s right, what important thing was I supposed to do? Why… Why can’t I remember?

“L.”

“Hm?” Bane took a step closer, towering over her as he studied her face. “What exactly

is so important? Tell me, will you?”

In the next second, he watched as Victoria’s brows furrowed before she shook her

head. “I–I don’t think I remember anymore.”

“You don’t remember?” Bane found her words hard to believe. Just a second ago, he

was standing outside and listening to her insist on leaving just because she claimed to

have something important to do.

However, she now said that she no longer remembered what it was. Was her memory

loss an act? Was she trying to deceive him?

She only felt as if there was something extremely important that she hadn’t done yet as

soon as she woke up, and her instinct led her outside. When faced with questions from

the others, she only replied reflexively as well. However, now that she had to tell him

what it was that was so important to her, she found herself unable to utter a single

word at all.

“What did I want to do? What did I want to do?”

Slowly, Victoria began to mumble this question to herself repeatedly. The more she tried to find out, the more it seemed that her brain did not have the answer, and her

frustration grew with every second that she was unable to recall her memories.

She knew that there was something she had to do that was extremely important, but

why couldn’t she remember no matter how hard she tried? Why was this happening?

What exactly happened to her? Did she forget something important?

Then, Bane watched as Victoria’s expression gradually turned pained, and she buried

her head in her hands. At first, he hadn’t ruled out the possibility that she was only

acting, but as her complexion slowly turned pale right before his eyes and the results

from the medical examinations appeared in his mind, he realized that she was not lying.

His gaze shifted, and he immediately stepped forward to grab her hand. “Victoria, don’t

force yourself if you can’t remember.”

Unfortunately, Victoria was completely lost in her own thoughts, and she could not hear

a single word of his.

Bane could only watch as her face turned increasingly pale and beads of sweat dotted

her forehead. Left with no choice, he could only raise a hand and send a strike to the

back of her neck, rendering her unconscious. After losing consciousness, Victoria soon

collapsed limply, but he swiftly caught her and held her gently in his arms.

His heart ached as he gazed at the unconscious girl in his embrace for a moment

before he picked her up and placed her back onto her bed. Then, he pulled out at handkerchief he usually carried with him, using it to wipe the sweat off her forehead.

It seemed that he could not allow her to force herself to recall her memories once she

woke up. Firstly, it would not benefit him in any way if she remembered everything

again. Secondly, if the process of her recovering her memories was filled with so much

agony, it would be better for her to leave them forgotten.

Thinking that, Bane slowly lowered his hand on Victoria’s fair cheeks, saying in a voice

so soft that only he could hear, “Victoria, don’t blame me for being pathetic. I just want

to take care of you myself.”

When noon came, Leon showed up to see Bane, saying that there was an important

matter he had to speak to him with. As Bane had already made up his mind, his mood

was significantly better than before.

“What is it?”

“Mr. Morison, Mr. Hudson wants to see you.”

Upon hearing Ethan’s name, Bane finally remembered that he had brought Victoria here.

The corners of his lips tugged lightly, but before he could speak, Leon continued, “He’s

here, and he’s waiting outside now.”

Bane’s face hardened at his words. “Who told him?”

At the sight of the shift in his expression, Leon reflexively took a step backward before

he explained, “I’m not too sure about that, but he…”

“Forget it, just let him wait outside.”

“Yes, sir.”

Once Leon left, Bane turned around and took a look at the unconscious Victoria. After

gazing at her silently for a moment, he rose to his feet and left the ward.

Meanwhile, Ethan, who was waiting outside the door, immediately stepped forward

when he saw Bane come out. “Mr. Morison.”

Bane’s eyes were completely frozen over as he looked at him, devoid of the gaze he

used to have when he looked at his subordinates. And yet, Ethan did not feel any trace

of hurt or anger as this outcome was something he brought upon himself, and he

spoke to Bane like he always did.

“Mr. Morison, I’ve already completed your instructions. Shouldn’t you fulfill your promise

as well?”

As soon as he finished speaking, Bane tossed a set of keys to him, which Ethan swiftly caught. Once he had the keys in hand, his heart, which had been constantly caught in

his throat, finally sank back into his chest. However, he did not thank Bane either and

immediately prepared to leave after receiving the keys.

Before he left, a thought occurred to him and he stopped in his tracks before turning

around to ask Bane, “I heard that Miss Selwyn is sick. How is her condition now?”

Nonetheless, Bane did not intend to answer his question. “This isn’t any of your

concern.”

Hearing that, Ethan froze for a moment before agreeing, “Yes, it isn’t any of my concern.

However, since you insist on making her stay by your side, Mr. Morison, you should take

good care of her.”
