Chapter 221 Learning about Norah's Divorce

After watching Norah get into the car, Matthew turned around and walked back.

At the door, he saw Janet leaning there with a calm expression.

"Was it Shawn Lawson who came to pick her up?"

Although it was phrased as a question, Janet spoke with certainty.

"You know him?"

"There are only two cars like this in the entire city. One belongs to the Lawson family, and the other one

was given to you by me on your birthday. You want to keep a low profile and keep it in the garage. It

was almost covered in dust, and I had to take it."

Matthew understood the situation. "What are you trying to say?"

Janet raised an eyebrow.

Instead of further beating around the bush, she stepped forward and grabbed Matthew's clothes. "Stop

playing dumb. It's useless, and I've seen through your thoughts."

"Keep it to yourself and pretend you don't know," Matthew said.

Janet looked at him and spoke coolly, "The birthday party held by the Lawson family? And you asked

me to contact an obstetrics and gynecology professor in the middle of the night also for her, right?"

Matthew looked up at the sky but said nothing.

"Now that her husband went there and they were all lovey-dovey, you came back feeling down in the

dumps?"

"Janet..." Matthew said, trying to suppress his anger. "I want to be left alone."

Janet punched him. "Come on. You're my brother. What are you afraid of? The Lawson family, so

what? We're not afraid of anyone. If you like her, go after her. She won't know if you keep your feelings

to yourself."

"But," Matthew said, looking at her with intense sadness in his eyes. "They're married. Are you

encouraging me to wreck their marriage?"

"Pfft. I've looked into it and found that they got divorced a month ago. Now that she's single now, you

have every right to court her."

"What?" Matthew looked at her incredulously. "What were you saying?"

"I'll say it again," Janet said. "I can tell you with certainty that she has divorced Shawn."

Janet thought her brother would be overjoyed at the news.

But his reaction was completely unexpected.

Matthew walked up to her and hugged her tightly. "Thank you for your understanding. I thought you

would mind."

Janet smiled softly. "Mind what? That she was married? Or that she had a miscarriage?"

"Don't be silly," she said. "If you truly like her, why would I mind? Besides, it's not like every girl has to

remain a virgin till they get married. I'm not old-fashioned.

"I never care about who she is. I care about your feelings. I like whoever you like."

Matthew's eyes grew moist.

The greatest pain in his life was the death of his father.

But the greatest blessing was having a sister who cared about him wholeheartedly and protected him in

every way.

When he first joined the police force, his mother had been vehemently against it.

Despite the obstacles, he had refused to change his mind.

It was his sister who had stepped in and overridden all objections.

It was also her who had taken over their family businesses and transformed from a carefree socialite

into a powerful businesswoman.

It was her sacrifice that had protected his dream and guarded his original intentions.

Janet walked into the house with Matthew's hand clasped in hers.

As they entered, Kaitlyn stood up with a warm smile. "You guys came back so soon."

But the thought of not being able to keep Norah for lunch made her feel a twinge of regret.

Janet went over and held onto her arm. "Mom, I know you're eager to have a daughter-in-law, but it

can't be rushed. Don't you know your son's personality?"

"Well, it's just because I know him too well that I got so anxious. I'm getting old, and his peer all have

gotten their children, so how can you blame me for that?"

Matthew also went over to hold Kaitlyn. "Mom, take it easy."

"Matthew, be honest with me. Do you like that girl?"

"We're just friends," Matthew replied.

"I didn't ask about your relationship. Do you like her?"

"Mom, the soup is tasty. Let me get a bowl for you. You should try it." Janet quickly got a bowl of soup

for Kaitlyn and placed it in front of her.

Kaitlyn glared at her. "Don't interrupt. It's all your fault to spoil him since he was a child. Now what?

He's almost 30 and still doesn't have a girlfriend."

"Mom, you're being unreasonable. Don't you spoil your son? You spoil him more than I do."

Kaitlyn lost her tongue.

Melisa leaned over and hugged Kaitlyn. "Mom, don't worry about it. My brother will definitely bring

home a beautiful, gentle, and generous wife."

"You can say that again."

When they reached home, Norah opened the door.

The next moment, Shawn dragged her to the hallway, pressed her against the wall, and kissed her

passionately until she felt weak and limply hung on him.

He let go of her and smiled contentedly.

"You're scheming," Norah said, leaning into his arms and poking him gently.

"Oh? How so?" Shawn asked, pretending not to know the answer. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

"Who said that he would go back and wait for me at home? Then he came back and waited for me

outside the hospital. Was he afraid I wouldn't come back?"

"I was." Shawn nodded, pinching her cheek, "My girlfriend is so cute. If another man snatched her

away, I would be heartbroken."

"Who would believe that?"

"Anyway, you can't be alone with other men," Shawn said, asserting his dominance.

Norah pinched his cheek in return. "Listen, your care and jealousy make me feel valued and happy, but

I hope that you can trust me more.

"As I said, Mat and I are just friends, and I treat him with the same concern I would show any friend.

Since I've decided to be with you, I'll be responsible for our relationship."

"It's not that I don't trust you," Shawn said. "I just don't trust him."

Norah didn't know what to say.

The maid had already prepared their meals. Everything was to their liking.

As soon as the food was served, the room was filled with its delicious aroma.

Norah's stomach growled with hunger.

She rejoiced that she hadn't mentioned Kaitlyn keeping her for lunch, or Shawn would have been

upset.

Halfway through the meal, Shawn's phone rang.

He took a look and quickly rejected it.

But within a few seconds, it rang again.

Norah looked over at him curiously. "Why aren't you answering it?"
