My Home
The moment they landed in Seattle, they immediately went to the mansion that Devlin had purchased a long time ago for his future family. Amber stood at the entrance, her eyes widening as she took in the grandeur of the place. The mansion’s architecture exuded a timeless elegance, and the surrounding garden seemed to stretch endlessly, adorned with vibrant flowers and lush greenery.
She thought that nothing can beat the grandiosity of Devlin’s mansion in New York but this huge place truly is incomparable. It has just captured Amber’s heart.
As they stepped inside, Amber’s breath caught in her throat. The interior was nothing short of breathtaking. A sweeping staircase adorned with intricate carvings led to the upper floors. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting a warm and inviting glow over the spacious foyer. The walls were adorned with exquisite paintings, each telling a story of its own.
She ventured out into the backyard, and what greeted her left her utterly astounded, an overwhelming sense of amazement washed over her and took in the breathtaking revelation that the rear of the house opened up to reveal a mesmerizing view of the lake. The mere words in her head seemed inadequate to capture the magnificence of the sight that lay before her. Nature’s masterpiece was unveiled in front of her eyes, a picturesque image that painted an indelible mark in her soul.
She has seen countless sunsets before but nothing prepared her for the scene right in front of her.
The sun cast a warm golden glow across the horizon, creating a seamless fusion of orange and purple hues that adorned the sky like an artist’s brush strokes. The tranquil water mirrored this celestial display, as if the lake itself sought to pay homage to the celestial spectacle above.
As she stood there, captivated by the scene, she couldn’t help but feel as if time had momentarily suspended itself, allowing her to bask in the pure tranquility of the moment. The world seemed to fall away, leaving her enveloped in serenity. The soft rustling of leaves and the distant chirping of birds harmonized with the soothing lapping of water against the shore.
The idyllic scene before her was not just a visual masterpiece but a sensory delight, an experience that reached beyond the boundaries of senses, touching her heart and igniting a sense of wonder that was as boundless as the horizon before her.
Suddenly, a rush of emotions surged through her as Devlin’s strong arms gently enfolded her waist, creating a warm and reassuring embrace. In a tender gesture, he carefully rested his chin on her right shoulder, his presence sending comforting shivers down her spine. The closeness of their bodies created an intimate moment, a connection that spoke volumes without the need for words.
As their heartbeats seemed to synchronize, time appeared to slow down, allowing them to savor this fleeting yet profound silence.
“Hmmm…this is home,” he said, his voice tinged with contentment, his words accompanied by a deep and heartfelt sigh. Amber remained in serene silence, her gaze mirroring his as they both became engrossed in the breathtaking view that the sunset painted across the horizon.
As the sun’s descent continued, it cast elongated shadows that stretched across the landscape. The world seemed to hold its breath, caught between day and night. Amber’s thoughts drifted like the wisps of clouds scattered across the sky.
As the last sliver of sun dipped below the horizon, the symphony of colors began to fade away, giving way to a star-studded sky that signaled the arrival of the night.
Amber turned to Devlin, a soft smile playing at the corner of her lips, and he returned the gesture, his eyes reflecting the warmth of their silent communion.
“There is nothing more beautiful than the beauty of nature.” Amber said dreamily, her eyes sparkling with wonder.
It was then that the enchantment of the backyard revealed itself in a new, magical light – as darkness descended, a myriad of lights began to twinkle and dance, adorning the backyard like a tapestry of stars. Large light bulbs began emitting light to their immediate surroundings. It added a more dreamy look to an already magical scene.
“I have to say, you are by far the most beautiful I have ever had the pleasure of setting my eyes upon.” His words had an enchanting effect on her, causing a giggle to escape her lips.
A playful grin tugged at the corners of her lips as she regarded him, her gaze dancing with affection. “Oh, Devlin,” she teased, her voice laced with mock disbelief. ” You’re still as charming as ever, aren’t you? Using your sweet words to sweep me off my feet.”
He chuckled, the sound, warm and familiar. “Well, I can’t let my skills go to waste, can I?” he replied playfully.
She reached out, her fingers brushing a stray strand of hair away from his face. “You always do have a way with words,” she admitted softly, her eyes reflecting the affection that coursed through her veins.
Devlin’s gaze never wavered from hers, his expression tender and earnest. “Only because they’re inspired by you,” he confessed, his words a sincere tribute to the depth of his feelings.
Amber had no answer to what her husband just said. She couldn’t just find the right words to match whatever words he would say to her, so she stayed silent.
They stayed a little bit more just hugging each other, enjoying the silence of the night, before Devlin gently pulled her inside the mansion.
“Devlin, I wish we could stay like this forever,” she whispered, her head resting on his chest.
He chuckled softly, his arms still wrapped around her. “I know what you mean babe, but unfortunately, we have a busy day ahead tomorrow.”
She sighed, looking up at him with a playful pout. “Do we have to deal with everything tomorrow?”
He grinned at his lovely wife. “Afraid so. Meetings, appointments, problems, and all that fun stuff.” He tried to make light of the problems they are facing.
She let out a dramatic groan, making him laugh. “Well, at least I have you to make the day better.”
He leaned down, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. “And you make everything brighter for me.”
As they stood there, the moonlight filtering through the mansion’s grand windows, she couldn’t help but feel grateful for moments like this. “Promise me that we’ll have more of these moments, Devlin. Just you and me.”
He held her closer, his voice sincere. “I promise. No matter how busy and stressful life gets, I’ll always make time for us.”
“You know, a dance under the moonlight would have been a perfect ending to tonight.”
He raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise. “Are you saying you want to dance now?”
She giggled, swaying to an imaginary rhythm. “Why not? There’s always time for a night dance, even if it’s just in our living room.”
Devlin grinned, taking her hand and spinning her gently. “Well then, my lady, may I have this dance?”
“You may,” she replied with a hearty laugh, letting him lead her in a whimsical dance around the room. The grandeur of the mansion seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them lost in their own world.
As the night wore on, they danced, they laughed, and they forgot about the outside world. They forgot about their problems. Tomorrow might be a long day, but they were determined to hold onto these precious moments together.
Morning came, Amber woke up to a huge empty, cold bed. Devlin was nowhere in sight. She checked her phone on her bedside table only to learn that it was already 9 am. She slept in.
She checked the messages she got from Devlin earlier. She called his phone but couldn’t get hold of him. It just kept on ringing. The second time she called, someone answered his phone. It was the voice of a woman.
“Hello, who is this?” Came the flirty voice of the unknown woman. Amber heard her chuckling softly.
“Hi… may I speak with Devlin?” The woman from the other line only arched her eyebrow. She knew Amber too well.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
“He is not here. He is occupied at the moment.” Came the brief reply.
“Alright. Are you his secretary?” Amber asked since she started to get annoyed with the woman’s voice.
“I am his girlfriend.” The woman declared outright. That immediately made Amber annoyed and at the same time amused. She is far from the woman five years ago who kept overthinking. She knows that a lot of women admire her husband. The woman, whoever she is, should be one of them.
“Hmmm…interesting you said that. Last time I checked, Mr. Devlin Wesley is a married man.” Amber said, not telling the woman who she is to Devlin.
“Well, I have never seen the wife. Besides, married or not, I don’t really care.” The woman heard Amber laugh from the other line which made her furious.
“Oh my… you are funny. Anyway, please tell my husband that I am coming to see him.” Amber ended the call immediately.
She tried to assess her feelings but she is not upset at all. If it was before, she could have done the most stupid things but now she knew better. She trusts her husband completely. Still, that woman needs to know who she exactly is.
