Tracking Him Down
Amber sat down on the edge of the bed, gazing at Devlin’s peaceful sleeping face. The soft moonlight filtering through the curtains painted a warm glow on his features. She couldn’t help but smile at his vulnerability in sleep, a stark contrast to the confident and strong man he was when awake.Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.
With a gentle touch, she traced the lines on his forehead, her fingertips barely grazing his skin. She leaned in to press a feather-light kiss on his forehead, Devlin stirred. His arms tightened around her, pulling her into a warm embrace. Even in his half-sleep state, he sought his presence, drawing her closer as if protecting a cherished secret.
Amber chuckled softly, her fingers now entwined in his tousled hair. She marveled at the depth of their connection, the unspoken understanding they shared. She knew the weight he carried, the responsibilities he shouldered, and yet he found solace in her arms.
Amber settled back against the headboard, trying to make sure that she wouldn’t wake her husband. She found comfort by simply looking at Devlin. The clock on the nightstand ticked away, making the only sound in the quiet room. With her free hand, Amber traced the outline of Devlin’s lips, a tender gesture that conveyed years of her longing for him. It has been just a few days since they got back together for good. And she never regretted her decision.
As the night deepened, Amber felt her own eyelids growing heavy. She nestled closer to Devlin, their heartbeats beating as one. With her head resting on his chest, sleep slowly consumed her.
Amber stirred in her sleep as the sun peeked through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. Her eyes fluttered open as she adjusted to the morning light. She stretched gently and realized she was still nestled against Devlin’s chest. His rhythmic heartbeat and the rise and fall of his chest indicated that he was still deep in slumber.
Amber carefully removed herself from the tangle of sheets and eased out of bed, trying not to disturb Devlin. She tiptoed to the window, drawing the curtains aside a bit to let more sunlight in. As she gazed outside, lost in thought, she heard a faint rustling from the bed behind her.
“Morning already?” Devlin’s voice was husky with sleep, but his eyes were now open, a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Amber turned around, that familiar warmth flooding her heart at the sight of him awake. “Good morning, babe.” she replied with a soft smile. “I hope I didn’t wake you up. You were sleeping like a baby.” Amber smiled lovingly at her husband. He is definitely a sight to behold with his handsome face and all those ripped muscles at the right place.
Devlin sat up, rubbing his eyes. “You didn’t. I just didn’t want to start my day without you beside me in bed.”
Amber walked back to the bed and sat beside him. “It’s a habit I could get used to,” she said, her fingers absently tracing circles on the bedspread.
He chuckled. “I’m glad we’re building good habits now.”
Leaning in, Amber brushed a kiss against Devlin’s cheek. “How did you sleep?”
“Like a rock,” he replied, stretching his arms above his head. “I have to say, waking up with you here is the best feeling.”
Amber felt a warm flush of happiness. “I feel the same way.”
Right after Amber uttered her last word, Devlin pulled her so quick and pinned her down on the bed.
“Devlin!” She protested and attempted to stop him from doing what he wanted but it was useless. She was no match to Devlin’s unwavering arousal. She immediately felt his hardness. He pressed himself harder against her belly making her feel how ready he is to take her.
It didn’t take long for Devlin to get them both fully naked. The next instant, he was already inside her, pounding his flesh deeper. Amber’s moans made him all the more hungry to take her deeper and harder. When they finally reached their climax, he poured all of his seed deep in her.
When the embers of fire died down, Amber realized something. They were not using any contraceptives so the possibility of Amber getting pregnant soon is not impossible at all. They never have a concrete talk about the possibility of having a baby soon. Their minds are busy facing their problems. For sure, if she gets pregnant, she will definitely be happy.
“That was a satisfying breakfast! Thank you for making us a delicious breakfast, babe.” Amber said while smiling sweetly at Devlin who just finished his cup of coffee. They were eating breakfast quietly with Abby.
Devlin simply smiled at his lovely wife. “No problem, babe. Anything to keep us fueled for what we’re about to tackle.” Amber softly chuckled at what her husband said. Just thinking about their problems brings tension in the air.
“Abby, let’s go to the study room. It is the perfect place to brainstorm and come up with a solid strategy.” Devlin simply suggested. She only nodded her head in agreement. The three of them made their way to the study room, a cozy place filled with shelves of books, a large mahogany table and a whiteboard on the wall. This is the first time Amber gets to see the study room. She never really had the chance to tour the entire mansion except to some places where Devlin showed her last time.
“So, first things first. Let’s start with our mastermind’s routine activities everyday. We need to find patterns and motives from his usual routines.” It was Devlin who spoke first.
“Your idea is great! That’s actually a good start.” Amber declared to support Devlin.
“And as far as I know… money, power, control – those seem to be the common motives for most crimes.” Amber added. As serious as the situation is but she seemed to be excited to help in the case.
“And we can’t forget that revenge can also be his motivation.” Abby said meaningfully.
“Revenge? I would like to know what happened to him in the past. That is something that would connect all the dots. I still can’t believe that he may have done all of these.” Devlin sighed deeply.
“I have created a timeline of his activities. For days now, I have been following him discreetly. So far, I have not seen anything out of the ordinary with his movements. Maybe if we analyze closely, we can identify a pattern or a vulnerability we can exploit.” Abby’s suggestion earned approval from Devlin.
“Also, we should consider potential allies. Who can help us gather more information or resources? We can’t do this alone. Time is very important now.” Devlin’s questions make sense.
“Babe, do you have an employee you can trust who is good at technology?” Amber suddenly asked.
“Well, yes from the IT department. He is working with Agent Smith.”
Amber excitedly clapped her hands. “That’s perfect! Maybe he can help us trace some digital footprints or vulnerabilities our culprit left behind. What do you think?” Amber’s gray eyes twinkled with excitement at both Devlin and Abby.
“Wife, your idea is brilliant. What do you think, Abby?” he looked at Abby who was just listening to them.
“Keep going, I am listening.” Abby prodded, amusement in her eyes.
“We are doing an internal investigation right now because of some money that was stolen from the company. I didn’t want to ask for your help since you are busy with your own investigation. However, you could come with us to the office today. Agent Smith will be there to conduct his investigation together with one of our IT experts.” Devlin now is more positive. He felt that finally they are getting close to their target.
“Sure. I would like to meet your investigator. I want to see what he got with him.” Amber and Devlin nodded in agreement.
“Great! I expect you ladies to be ready in fifteen minutes.” Abby was ready but Amber looked at her with a creased forehead.
“Abby, I have some new office clothes in my closet that I haven’t used. I guess you better wear one so you don’t get any attention from the company.” Abby couldn’t help but glance down at her all-black ensemble. Amber had a point. Her attire would undoubtedly draw everyone’s attention in a corporate setting.
It didn’t take long for the ladies to get ready. The clock was ticking, and they knew they had to hurry if they wanted to meet Devlin’s investigator. As they finished getting ready, they spotted Devlin busy reading something on his phone, his brow furrowed in concentration.
Amber didn’t need to get her husband’s attention; he had already heard their footsteps descending the stairs. He pocketed his phone and smiled warmly at the ladies. “Ready to meet this investigator?” The ladies only nodded their heads. Amber was excited to help while Abby only showed a blank face.
Devlin led the way, and together, they left the mansion, ready to make some significant progress today.
