Chapter 671 The Lucky Lady
Colleen tapped Skylar on the shoulder at the sight of Tobias' approach. “I'll see you inside. Think about
what I've told you. I know your father won't admit it, but he misses you. He told me that you are actually
his favorite. Remember, Skylar. Know who your true family is.”
Skylar did not believe a word of it. I'm sure being a principal in a high school requires lying your a*s off
all the time too.
As they passed, Tobias nodded pleasantly at Colleen as she was his elder.
Colleen reciprocated the greeting as she took in everything from his features to his watch.
She did not understand how a man like that would choose to be with Skylar. His decision seemed to
challenge her antiquated views of social compatibility being the determining factor in the success of a
marriage.
“The banquet's starting soon. I'm going in to supervise,” she declared jovially as if the scene earlier had
never happened. “Come in from the cold soon, both of you. We have several new chefs under our
employ and would like your feedback on their skills.”
“We have some last-minute matters to attend to,” Tobias said apologetically. “Maybe another time.”
Despite Colleen's persuasion, Tobias did not budge.
Tobias is an important man with important obligations. Who am I to insist that he reschedule them?
As soon as Colleen disappeared back into the venue, Skylar heaved a long sigh of relief as she gazed
up at Tobias.
“Why didn't you at least greet me earlier?” she demanded. “Do I embarrass you so?”
Tobias smoothed her hair which had been disheveled by the wind. “I only dropped by to discuss
matters with your father. Maybe I was so focused on my goal that I did not notice your presence.”
Skylar almost rolled her eyes at that. Yeah, right. I'm wearing a black dress, not a cloak of invisibility.
Tobias lifted her chin tenderly and kissed her on the forehead. “Let it go, all right? It's such a trivial
matter to remain upset about.”
Skylar remained forlorn. Tobias was tactful enough to detect Skylar's mood and rejected the invitation
to dine so that he could take Skylar away from them.
Skylar has suffered enough in the hands of the Joneses and the Watts, being taken advantage of when
there is a use for her and then cast aside when she is no longer needed.
Skylar followed Tobias through the labyrinth of cars that littered the yard into his Maserati.
As soon as she sat down in the passenger seat, she detected a faint hint of perfume that smelled like
roses that was unlike her own.
Skylar remained still as Tobias leaned over to buckle her seatbelt for her. She wore a down coat that
kept her snugly wrapped from chin to ankles.
As was his proclivity, Tobias slid his hand in to grope her breasts and earned himself a glare.
To her further chagrin, Skylar noticed a long strand of hair on the passenger seat as the car was
heading out the grounds of the Jones residence.
Frowning, she picked the strand up and squinted at it under the light. It was thick and robust with a light
brown color.
This is definitely not mine. My hair is only half this width.
Tobias maintained the steering wheel with one hand as he watched Skylar. “Is there anything you'd like
to ask about the strand of hair in your hand? It must have belonged to the friend I'd dropped home.” NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.
Skylar wound down the window and let the strand fly off into the wind.
“Who was that lucky lady friend?”
“Idania.”
