Chapter 696 What Kind Of Life Did You Lead Back Then
Tobias hated it when people disturbed his personal life. If his relationship with Skylar were to be
exposed, he would surely end up on the covers of magazines.
Skylar did not sleep well the night before, so she got drowsy shortly after she slumped into her bed.
However, just before she fell asleep, she heard Mavis talking on the phone. Although the woman was
speaking in Spanish, Skylar could more or less understand what was said.
“I don't have any more money. I've already lost count of all the creditors I paid off for you! We're already
divorced, and you still want me to clean up your mess for you? Why don't you just drop dead?”
I guess even superstars have quarrels when it comes to money. Skylar covered her head with her
blanket and pretended that she did not hear Mavis. She thought it was pretty awkward to overhear
somebody else's secret.
Skylar did not think that marrying into a wealthy family was the key to happiness, but somehow, her
path crossed with Tobias' nonetheless.
Having rested for a while, Skylar waited until Mavis fell asleep before going out to the little garden just
in front of the hotel, where she saw Kai.
The man was drinking alone there with a bottle of wine he got from the hotel owner. The alcoholic drink
was not to his taste, but it was all he had.
When Kai noticed Skylar, his sense of loneliness immediately dissipated.
Skylar sat down on a swing next to him after he beckoned for her. “What are you doing drinking alone
here? Aren't you tired? In case you've forgotten, you have to wake up early tomorrow.”
Kai was glad that Skylar seemed to be concerned for him. “I'm not tired. As long as you're around, I'll
always be as lively as crickets. Besides, you're still awake too. Is something troubling you?” All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“Of course not. I have countless fans rooting for me, which is something I still have trouble believing. To
be liked by so many people is like a dream come true. I never thought that a TV show could kickstart
my career like that. I'm doing so much better than before. At least I don't have to worry about money.”
Kai finished his drink before responding, “Well, it's not just any TV show; we're talking about Empyrean
Sword here! Anyone who stars in that show is bound to become famous. Still, not everybody gets to
fight for their dream like you do. Two years is all I have left in this industry.”
Despite what Kai said, Skylar did not think that it was her dream to become a superstar. On the
contrary, she hated how her career had limited her freedom.
She only joined the film academy because of Jeremy. Back then, she was in love and too young to
think for herself.
Skylar took his boyfriend's dream as her own and gradually lost herself along the way.
Still, it was not something she would want to talk about, so she decided that it was easier to tell people
that it was her dream to become a superstar.
“Why would you want to quit when you're so popular? It's kind of a waste, don't you think?” inquired
Skylar.
Kai leaned back in the wooden chair and looked up to the night sky as the crickets' chirped. “It's not up
to me. I have a family business to inherit, and my family's not about to let me throw it away just
because I have my own dream. My father only gave me two years to do what I want.”
Skylar knew close to nothing about the Ford family, for she had only met them once.
Although, she did remember Kai's father to be an amicable and polite person.
Skylar did not know what the Fords had been through or why nobody helped them when Claudia was in
trouble.
Tobias never told her what his life was like when he was little, but Sheldon would always tell her how
pitiful they were back then.
