Chapter 769 Comparison
Chapter 769 Comparison
Miranda refused to believe it. “You don't have any money? That's impossible. I read in the news that a female celebrity earned one hundred and fifty million for a movie. Why aren't you like her?”
Skylar responded in exasperation, “I'm curious about that too. Why am I not like her? It's embarrassing to ask that question, though. People might think I'm being greedy by demanding a higher price. I know myself well; no matter how hard I try, they won't increase my worth.”
She glanced at the contract and continued, “You don't have a good eye for investments. This is clearly a scam targeting vulnerable people, especially the elderly.”
Miranda, on the other hand, believed that Skylar also lacked a discerning eye for investments. It had taken her considerable effort to find such a promising project. She couldn't believe Skylar didn't leap at the chance.
Anxiously, she attempted to persuade Skylar to reconsider. “They called me and threatened to remove me from the project if I don't submit my investment within three days. You have to transfer one million to me today. It's not a large sum.”
Skylar gave her a pointed look. “One million isn't a large sum to you, huh? Mom, you have no idea how hard I have to work to earn one million. I've stayed up for twenty-three hours straight to film continuously. When you see how busy I am, you'll know that I don't earn my money easily.”
Miranda remained in her own world and refused to listen to Skylar no matter what the latter said.
Skylar brushed off her pleas, remaining resolute in her decision not to offer any money to Miranda.
She hadn't received the remaining payment from the previous reality show yet. It wasn't a substantial amount, though. As filming progressed, Skylar realized that her workload was increasing while her earnings remained modest.
Miranda had been content with the monthly allowance Skylar provided her. However, recently, Skylar reduced the amount, leaving Miranda struggling to cover her expenses. Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
She had to continuously remind and urge Skylar to transfer the money, as Skylar was often late with the allowance payments.
If she weren't aware that Skylar was dating Tobias, she would've assumed her daughter had found a toy boy who lived off her.
Miranda couldn't help but envy Sharon. She grumbled, “Eva bought her father a car. She's such a dutiful daughter. Look at her, able to afford a car shortly after starting work. She even got herself a new Mercedes-Benz. Your job may seem glamorous, but it's all superficial. Please start taking control of your finances, okay?”
Skylar rolled her eyes in exasperation. “The villa you're living in is located in the heart of the city. You can have it appraised to see its value. Don't envy others simply because they bought a new car. If Eva builds a rocket for her parents, should I build one too? If you knew how to drive, I would definitely get you a car. But since you don't, what good would it do for me to buy a car for you?”
Tobias overheard their fight about cars and houses.
He had seen through Miranda's true nature. Miranda wasn't necessarily a bad person, but she had a tendency to take advantage of others and exploit her daughter.
Despite not raising Skylar herself, she still managed to drain Skylar's resources like a vampire. Skylar had no choice but to provide her with a monthly allowance that was within her means.
Calmly, Tobias poured himself a cup of black coffee. He felt a sense of fatigue lingering, having exhausted his energy the previous night, perhaps a sign of his age catching up with him.
Usually, he would be at work at this hour.
Skylar's eyes widened in alarm as she hastily grabbed Miranda's arm, silently pleading with her not to show the Taffledale Health Investment proposal to Tobias. The last thing she wanted was for her mother to embarrass her further by bringing it up in front of him.
However, Miranda pried her hands off, determinedly snatching the proposal and making her way to Tobias.
