Chapter 2239
Chapter 2239
**That Night**
It was well past midnight, yet the guests at the Jordan household showed no signs of leaving.
Mrs. Jordan brought up a bowl of bird's nest soup to the upstairs bedroom, her smile gentle and caring. "You head off to sleep, dear. I'll ask them to keep it down so they won't disturb you."
Amiee nodded, "Thanks, Mom!"
Sitting at the edge of the bed, Mrs. Jordan's well-preserved skin glowed softly as she watched Amiee. "Finding someone you love and marrying them is the luckiest thing in the world. I wish you all the happiness and fulfillment."
Amiee's eyes were calm and warm, "I will!"
"I and your father haven't set the best example in marriage," Mrs. Jordan said softly, looking down. "Your change in behavior afterward had a lot to do with us, and for that, I am truly sorry."
In that moment, Amiee felt she understood her mother better.
She spoke of finding someone you love and marrying them as the greatest fortune.
But her mother and father had a marriage of convenience, a business union. She must have had someone she loved once but couldn't be with. After getting married, perhaps she tried to grow fond of her husband, only to realize he had someone else in his heart as well.
Thus, their marriage was one of mutual respect from a distance, the best outcome under the circumstances.
Amiee reached out to hug her mother, whispering, "I don't blame you anymore, but I do hope you both find your happiness."
"No," Mrs. Jordan shook her head gently, "Your father and I will grow old together. Some people, even if not in love, cannot part."
Amiee didn't understand but respected their choice, "Okay, whatever you decide, I will support you."
Because even though they were not in love, they were united in their love for her.

Elsewhere, Josiah was also awake. The James family home was ablaze with lights, buzzing with excitement. He, too, was prepared to stay up until dawn.
While mingling and laughing with a
group downstairs, his phone lit up. Stepping outside to answer, he heard Yvonne's graceful voice, "Josiah, I heard you're getting married. Congratulations!"
Josiah's tone was indifferent, "What do you want?"
There was a pause, Yvonne's voice tinged with sadness, "We grew up together, joked about you getting married and me fetching your bride. I cant believe it's happeningso soon. You're really getting married."
Leaning against the railing, Josiah stayed silent.
"I want to come back for your wedding. Would you welcome me?" Yvonne asked. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
Josiah was direct, "You're not welcome!"
Yvonne hurried to explain, "I just want to see you, that's all."
Josiah scoffed coldly, "Do you want to see me, or are you looking for an excuse to come back and stir up trouble for Jonah and Estelle?"
Yvonne sounded surprised, "Josiah, how can you think of me like that?"
Josiah's gaze was icy, "How else should I think of you?"
"I know I've made many mistakes, but in my heart, you're like a brother to me. I've always cherished our years of friendship!" Yvonne said earnestly.
"All those years of friendship, and yet
you took advantage of them?" ē Josiah's lips curled in a cold smile, "Tomorrow is the happiest day of my life. I don't want to see you. That's it!"
With that, Josiah hung up the phone.
Putting his phone away, Josiah wasn't affected by Yvonne's call. Looking up at the starry sky, he was filled with an excitement he couldn't contain.
He had never looked forward to dawn as much as he did tonight.
He was eager, more than ever, to go and fetch his girl.
