Chapter 247
Chapter 247
After all, in all the years she worked in the entertainment industry, keeping this fact a secret had taken her a lot of effort. She had to be extra cautious every day in fear of people discovering the truth about her child.
She seemed to have gotten used to keeping to herself that she dared not face the outside world. However, as of today, things had taken a different turn, and Angeline felt as though a burden had been lifted from her shoulders.
As expected, her words caused a commotion in the crowd. The reporters furrowed then brows tightly, showing evident displeasure for her.
“Ms. Sorelie, haven’t you considered that your fans would be disappointed when you decided to hide such a big matter from them? Don't you have any respect for your fans?”
“Of course I respect them,” replied Angeline sincerely, staring straight at the cameras. “I've always regarded my fans as family, but I have my own reasons for doing this, so I hope everyone can respect my decision. I also hope you will not use having a child as a reason to define female actresses as a whole.”
However, she underestimated the fans' tolerance level. They were filled with so much rage that they could not help but yell at her.
“That is not an acceptable excuse. You've broken our trust!”
“That's right! You're a liar!”
Not uttering a single word, Angeline lowered her head, enduring all the insults they threw at her.
As she was the one who had lied to them first, she was willing to endure this.
Despite that, the more she remained silent, the angrier the crowd got. They threw the placards and water bottles they were holding at her.
“Leave the entertainment industry. Angeline!”
“You've betrayed our trust! Do you think you would be where you are today if not for us spending our money on your program?”
“Have you forgotten who bought your magazine covers? You lied to us. Go back to being an insignificant fry!”
After that, they threw their water bottles at Angeline again. Some even started to pour water on her.
In an instant, Angeline was drenched from head to toe, causing her to frown and shudder.
As she stared into the terrifying eyes of the people in front of her, she felt even colder as though she was in an icy-cold, desolate cave.
Finding herself in immense helplessness, Angeline wanted to escape, but she was surrounded by her fans, who were throwing words of criticism at her. They did not even give her a chance to breathe.
Just when she felt herself falling into deeper despair, she was suddenly held in a warm embrace. What followed was the sound of a water bottle hitting a physique, but she did not feel any pain.
Raising her head slightly, she looked at the person, only to be shocked upon finding out who it was.
Evander? How come he's here out of nowhere?
After quite a long time, she regained her senses and wrapped an aim around Evander's waist.
“A-Are you okay? Are you hurt?” she asked, her lips trembling.
Even though Evander's face was a tad pale, he showed no signs of discomfort.
“I'm all right,” he responded calmly. Then, he skillfully intertwined his fingers with the woman's, adding in a soft tone, “Stay still. I'll get you out of here.”
Angeline was on the verge of tears. It was as if she had found an outlet to release all the grievances she felt. Pressing herself against his chest, she stretched out a hand to pull the comer of the man's shirt.
“Okay.”
Receiving Angeline's permission, Evander took off his coat and draped it on the woman. He then escorted her out of the place while protecting her.
While they were leaving, the crowd behind them did not quieten down.
“You shameless liar! Leave the industry!”
“Leave the entertainment industry!”
Those painful words stabbed through her heart like a dagger.
Angeline knitted her brows tightly, anguish written on her face.
Noticing that, Evander covered her ears with liis hands to prevent her from hearing any more of those comments. He protected her to the fullest.
As they entered the hospital, the bodyguards did not allow the crowd to enter, which created a safe space for Angeline.
Staring at Evander. she noticed how soaked the man's back was, making her wonder just how many water bottles he had blocked for her.
Moved by his gesture, she was about to thank him when the frantic footsteps of the nurses echoed from upstairs.
“Hurry! The boy in the operating room is in critical condition! He needs immediate attention!”
When Angeline heard that, her face instantly lost color, and she ran upstairs with no hesitation. She had no other thoughts in her mind: she just wanted to see Sebastian.
As she did not show any concern for him, Evander froze on the spot.
Angeline dashed upstairs, looking at the busy crowd. Feeling her heart pounding, she reached out and gripped the hem of a nurse's shirt.
“Excuse me. How is the boy's condition?”
“Are you his mother?”
The nurse stared at Angeline with a deep frown, her face contorted.
“He's not in a good state. Since he has congenital heart disease, he can't be triggered. He's currently in danger. Something must have triggered him severely.”
Angeline lost her balance at the nurse's words. It took her a long time to barely find her balance again.
She gripped the nurse's hand and begged. “Please. Please save him. He's still so young. He shouldn't —”
“Please calm down. We understand, and we'll perform our best,” said the nurse before she turned around and left.
Angeline watched as the door to the operating room slowly closed. Feeling her heart drop, she clasped her hands together, praying for Sebastian to return to her side safe and sound.
While she was feeling anxious, Evander showed up out of the blue and placed a hand on her shoulder. “Don't worry. Sebastian will be fine,” he comforted in a deep voice.
Eventually, Angeline could no longer hold back her tears as they streamed down her cheeks.
“This is all my fault,” she said, voice laced with guilt. “Had I been more alert, he wouldn't have been targeted. I failed to protect him.”
“No. This has nothing to do with you,” Evander replied, looking at her seriously. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
However, as if she did not hear him, she continued wailing, “This is all my fault. I'm not a good mother. It's all my fault...”
“Cahn down, Angeline. You have to knowr that some things are out of our control.”
With that, he pulled Angeline into liis arms, gently patting the woman's back.
