Chapter 249
Chapter 249
Angeline instantly felt relief upon hearing the doctor's words.
She stumbled at the sudden dizziness, her weak body swaying.
Just then, a strong arm wrapped around her waist and held her in place.
Angeline leaned against him and regained stability with much difficulty.
"Thank goodness. Angeline. I told you Sebastian would be all right.” Nancy tugged on Angeline's aim excitedly.
“Yes...” Angeline muttered.
Her eyes were misty, and she held back the tears that threatened to fall.
"But you guys shouldn't celebrate too soon.”
The heaviness in the doctor's tone was unmistakable. He had not left their side all tliis while.
“The boy regaining his consciousness doesn't mean he has fully recovered. I'm afraid it's very much the opposite. You should take extra care of him and prevent him from suffering any more shock.”
“We will certainly bear that in mind, doctor. Thank you.”
Angeline bowed at him respectfully and beseeched. “Please do your best for Sebastian's sake.”
“Ms. Sorelie, this is too much.” The doctor hurriedly reached out to help her up. “Rest assured that we'll do our utmost best. However, I'd strongly urge you to transfer Sebastian to a hospital overseas as soon as possible, as the medical resources concerning cardiology here are still rather limited.”
“I understand.”
Angeline nodded solemnly. She could not relax for even one minute as the doctor's words made her heart sink once more.
Sebastian's ever-worsening sickness only made her feel on edge.
“Don't worry.” Evander's magnetic voice sounded. He wrapped her in liis embrace and comforted her by nibbing her shoulder with his warm palm. “I have a friend overseas who's a chief cardiologist. He's got a high success rate of treating numerous patients. Once Sebastian's condition has stabilized, I'll arrange for liis transfer there immediately.”
“Okay.” Hope filled Angeline's eyes once more. She raised her head and studied Evander's chiseled profile. That was when she noticed the dark circles below liis eyes. She felt warmth swelling in her heart and gripped liis aim with her ice-cold hands. “Thank you.”
She had never imagined Evander taking time off despite his hectic schedule to accompany her.
They had parted ways on bad terms previously. She presumed he would still be mad and refuse to help her.
“There's no need for that.”
Evander's expression fell. He helped Angeline over to a chair and requested a blanket from the nurse on duty to warm Angeline's legs.
Angeline detected a hint of displeasure in Evander's eyes although he was meticulous in tending to her needs.
Her brows furrowed unconsciously as she attempted to figure out the reason behind liis volatile mood.
Unfortunately, she did not have much time to spare for her musings. She hastened to Sebastian's ward after speaking to the doctor.
Roger and Nancy finally succumbed to then fatigue after staying awake all night and made then way home after being informed that Sebastian was fine.
Sebastian was at the forefront of Angeline's mind, and she only spared the others a cursory nod before heading straight to his ward.
Roger sighed as he observed how Evander's gaze lingered on Angeline.
He gently patted Evander's shoulder and cocked liis brows.
“Evander. you should take the initiative more often. It's fairly common for couples to argue as long as they don't cross the other's boundaries. If you two don't make up and get back together. I swear I'll never believe in love ever again.”
Roger took his leave after that.
Evander's stony gaze was pensive as he leaned against the wall with one hand in liis pocket.
Meanwhile, Angeline had finally mustered the courage to open the door to Sebastian's ward.
She was welcomed by the pungent smell of disinfectant as soon as she set foot inside the room.
A thin and frail figure was lying on the sick bed. Countless tubes were attached to liis body, and liis pulse on the electrocardiogram was weak.
Angeline's heart twisted, and she covered her face to stave off the tears that threatened to emerge.
It was inconceivable how a child at the tender age of five had to go through such excruciating pain.
She regained her composure and took her place at the side of the bed. Her hold on Sebastian's hand was firm as she stared unblinking at his unconscious form.
She was the only one Sebastian had left in the world.
No matter what happened, she would never abandon him and would patiently await the day he awakened.
The sun's rays, which pierced through the dark clouds and illuminated the earth, heralded dawn.
The intensive care unit was shrouded in darkness, the rhythmic beeping of the electrogram the only sound in the dead silence.
It was unknown howr much time had passed wlien Sebastian's hand that was held by Angeline twitched. Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.
Angeline's eyes flared with hope as soon as she detected Sebastian's movement. She leaned forward and said into liis ear urgently, “Sebastian, you're awake, aren't you? You've been sleeping for an entire day now; Open your eyes and look at me, please?”
Sebastian must have heard her as his arm moved slightly, and liis eyelids gradually lifted shortly after.
He gave Angeline a blank stare, the look in his eyes causing Angeline's blood to run cold.
“What's wrong with you. Sebastian? Don't scare me like that!”
Angeline swallowed nervously, and her heart was in her mouth.
Sebastian grunted in agony, and tears welled up in liis eyes.
Angeline's heart shattered, and she rushed to pour him a glass of warm wrater which she served him spoonful by spoonful.
Sebastian's eyes were full of repulsion as he batted the water away with all his might.
Angeline yelped in pain wlien it shattered on the floor and the hot water spilled all over her thighs.
“I'm s-scared!”
Sebastian jumped off the bed in terror and dashed into a comer of the room with a pillow' in his hand.
Angeline's face blanched as she noted the IV drip on the back of Sebastian's pahn that was on the verge of detaching itself.
“Sebastian, cahn down! Don't hurt yourself!”
