Chapter 17~ Guilt
Chapter 17- Guilt
"Ivy, what happened?" Ryan asked anxiously the moment he walked into Ivy's hospital VIP ward.
He had rushed over the moment Ivy called and said she had been injured. Looking at her legs covered in bandages, guilt crept into him and squeezed his heart.
Ivy lay on the bed as the doctor tended to her.
"Ryan, you're here," she said in a soft pitiful voice. "Don't worry, I'm fine, the injuries are not serious."
Hearing her say that when she was clearly in pain filled Ryan's heart completely with guilt.
He glanced at the doctor and inquired, "Doctor, tell me her condition. How is she?"
The doctor who happened to be Ivy's physiotherapist, Richard Hart, looked at Ryan and sighed.
"Why was Miss Williams left alone without help? It could have been dangerous and life-threatening," Doctor Richard said. Ryan's heart jumped into his throat. Life threatening?
He never wanted to experience someone dying because he couldn't protect them again. It was the worst feeling ever. "Is she ok?" He asked the doctor.
Doctor Richard nodded and replied, "She's fine now but her legs are injured. She needs extra care in the next few days." Ryan let out a sigh of relief. He asked again, "What about her legs? Any hope that she will start to use her legs soon?"
The doctor pushed his glasses up his nose and responded, "Miss Williams is slowly gaining sensation in her legs, Mr Kingsley, so these burns must be very painful. It's easy for her to start from the beginning if she keeps getting injured like this. She needs extra care or she may never walk again if she keeps getting trauma to her legs."
Ryan clenched his hands into fists. They had tried everything but no one seemed to have a solution to help Ivy with her legs.
"Doctor Richard, do you know any experts that we can fly in to treat Ivy's legs? Money is not a problem," Ryan asked.
Ivy gasped at his words. She held his hand and remarked, "Ryan, there's no need to spend so much money on me. What if there's nothing that can be done? You would have wasted your money for nothing." "Don't say that, you deserve the best care," Ryan replied and glanced at the doctor, waiting for an answer. "Um... I don't know any for now, but I'll ask around and get a few recommendations," Doctor Richard replied.
"ed those recommendations soon," Ryan ordered.
"Of course," Doctor Richard answered and cleared his throat. "Please excuse me."

When the doctor left, Ryan stared at Ivy and asked, "What happened? How did you get burnt?"
Ivy sighed and replied, "I didn't want to have lunch alone, but I knew you had more important business to attend to, so I chose to just have a cup of coffee. I just wanted to save my lunchtime so I could spend more time designing my work. I hope I can be helpful to your company." Seeing Ryan's expression grow more and more guilty, Ivy continued, "So, I went to make some coffee for myself when the kettle fell on my leg and the hot water burnt me."
Ryan recalled Ivy had wanted to have lunch with him but he had refused. More guilt crept into him as he thought it was his fault that she got hurt.
Looking at Ryan's expression, Ivy added, "Don't worry about it, Ryan. It doesn't hurt that much. Compared to not being able to walk, this pain is nothing. I am getting used to it."
"What do you mean it doesn't hurt that much when you're clearly in pain?" Ryan questioned. "Don't be so careless next time and ask someone to help you."
"I just didn't want to be a burden to anyone, especially to you," Ivy remarked."
Ryan furrowed his eyebrows and stated, "You will never be a burden."
Ivy secretly smirked at his words.
She had learned that Ryan was planning to invite Lora to lunch with his Grandfather, so she tried to stop the lunch, but Ryan stuck to his lunch plan. 'Damn you, Larisa, you're ghostly.'
'In the past, Ryan's grandfather liked you. After you died, Ryan's grandfather still prevented Ryan from marrying me.
'Now, even Lora, who looks like you caught that old man's attention. You're damned!'
Ivy developed a sense of crisis. She thought the old man would push Ryan to pursue Lora and she couldn't let that happen. Since she couldn't stop them from meeting, she planned to sabotage their meeting.
That was when she came up with a plan to hurt herself to interrupt their lunch, and luckily, Ryan came rushing as always.
'Mmmmm, Lora Davis, you can't win against me. No one can win against me. Ryan is mine,' Ivy said in her mind.
Ryan didn't know her thoughts and suggested, "Let me take you home."
"I'll have to trouble you then. I'm sorry I disturbed your lunch with the partner," Ivy remarked.

"There's no problem," Ryan replied before carrying Ivy and placing her in the wheelchair.
On the way, Ivy placed her hand on Ryan's arm and asked, "Ryan, when can I visit Grandpa? It has been a while since I saw him."
Ryan's eyebrows creased. He was about to reply when ivy added, "Actually, I know that Grandpa doesn't like me. However, I would like to try and make him like me. At least then, we can finally get married." Chapter 17- Guilt

Ryan sighed internally. He knew his grandfather didn' really guilty.
