Chapter 3040
Everyone else around them instantly turned their attention toward Shelly.
No one paid Shelly any attention before Fergus asked the question because Shelly wore the same uniform as everyone else, so the others had mistaken her for one of them. Before taking a better look at Shelly's face, they all thought that Shelly might be one of Hayden's secretaries.
Hayden had always been a private person who rarely appeared in public. Therefore, not many people knew who reported directly to him.
However, once everyone saw Shelly's face and recognized her as the owner of Courtney's Cafe, they instantly realized that there was more to the story than meets the eye.
None of them expected that Hayden would invite the owner of a cake shop to join the team-building event.
Shelly's face turned red under everyone's gaze.
Afraid that Hayden would be placed in a difficult position, she immediately answered Fergus's question, "No, I was told that you were having a team-building event, and I wanted to come along and broaden my horizons, so I begged Hayden to bring me along."
"I invited her," said Hayden.
A wave of exclamations erupted around them as everyone instantly concluded that Shelly must be incredibly close to Hayden for him to have invited her on a company trip.
Fergus, satisfied with the answer, nodded approvingly, before asking, "Shelly, would you like to join us for lunch? We haven't had a chance to catch up in a long time!" Shelly was torn.
If it was not for Hayden, she would have gladly accepted the offer, but it seemed ungrateful of her to cast Hayden aside since he was the one who had invited her. Shelly wanted to know Hayden's thoughts, so she turned to him for advice.
"The seating arrangements for the meal have already been made. She'll be sitting at my table," Hayden said to Fergus, then he looked down at Shelly. "Let's go." Shelly waved goodbye to Fergus and followed Hayden.
Everyone watched in astonishment!
"The boss must be dating Ms. Taylor! Didn't you see the way Ms. Taylor looked at him just now? It was positively sweet!" one female employee exclaimed. "Sweet? I didn't see anything sweet," Fergus said, feeling a bit nauseated.
"Fergus, I know you were interested

in Shelly because you're from the same hometown. Who would have thought that our boss would swoop in and steal her away!" A male, colleague patted Fergus on the shoulder.
"You're mistaken," Fergus replied confidently. "Shelly and the boss know each other from a long time ago."
"Oh, really? How did they meet? Our boss only returned to the country this year, right? And that little cake shop of Shelly's doesn't look big." Fergus shrugged. "I don't know about that."
"Fergus, take it easy! Even if things don't work out between Ms. Taylor and Mr. Tate, she wouldn't end up with you because our boss has elevated her taste in men, and she won't settle for an ordinary employee in the future," said another female colleague, consoling Fergus.

"My ego is already wounded, so stop rubbing salt into my wound," Fergus said and walked toward the hotel.
Dream Maker had reserved three banquet halls for lunch, and Shelly sat at a table with Hayden and the company executives.
All the executives were aware that Shelly would be joining the team-building event, and they also knew that Shelly had given birth to Hayden's child, so they treated her with the utmost courtesy.
"Ms. Taylor, make yourself at home.
If there are any dishes you want that aren't here, just switch tables. We're all family here, so you can consider this a meal amongst family, the president said with a smile. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
Shelly smiled and nodded.
Since the dishes had been pre-ordered, the waitstaff began serving them once they were seated.
After all the dishes were served, Shelly began to determine which dishes Hayden could eat and which he could not.
Avery had messaged her and they had chatted for a while the night before.
