Chapter 162
Chapter 162
Evadne set off a domino effect using the insignificant George, leading to the total collapse of the Stirling family.
Although the Abernathy family was also affected, Thaddeus didn’t end up marrying Acacia. He was a victim in this mess too, his reputation was tarnished, becoming the talk of the town.
In the General Manager’s office.
Evadne squeezed in a couple of games, while Jason peeled grapes for her, reporting on important matters simultaneously.
“Aaron sent word that Una’s trial is about to start. So far, no lawyer is willing to defend her. The evidence is solid, and no one wants to fight this losing battle. So, a twenty year sentence is pretty much inevitable for her.”
Jason bent over to feed the translucent grape to Evadne.
She swallowed it, narrowing her eyes and licking her lips as she was impressed by the taste of it, “So sweet!”
Jason couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Aaron is too much, he could have called me himself, but had you relay the message.” Evadne sighed helplessly, feeling a bit down.
Aaron and Nydia were alike in that they both worried too much.
Aaron was only three years older than her, but his care for her from childhood was no less than her other four brothers.
“Aaron does have a bit of an inferiority complex, he can’t bring himself to spoil you openly,” Jason observed, having a clear understanding of the relationships within the Ashbourne family.
“Aaron always overthinks.”
Evadne shook her head, “In my heart, he’s no different than Ca**ius, I love and admire them all the same.”
“By the way, George is now locked up in jail. Arnold and Aaron, wanting to get back at him for you, joined forces to crack down on a few members of the underworld from gambling dens and loan shark companies. They’re locked up together with that scum.”
Jason clenched his teeth, his eyes cold, “George can take his time to repay his debts from within jail.”
Evadne chuckled, “My brothers were thoughtful, I’ll have to cook for them to thank them.”
“Also, the Stirling family’s debt is said to be almost paid off.”
Evadne paused, frowning, “Was it Thaddeus who helped her out? He’s really dedicated to the Stirling’s.”
“No, it was Elspeth.”
Evadne fell silent.
“But it’s strange. Acacia’s reputation is already ruined, she’s useless now. Elspeth isn’t a saint either, why would she clean up the mess for the Stirling’s?” Jason voiced his confusion.
“Even though Acacia is useless, she might have something on Elspeth.”
Evadne said coldly, “They’ve been working together for a long time, does Acacia not know any of Elspeth’s secrets? As you said, Elspeth isn’t a philanthropist, so she must be under Acacia’s control, forced to help fill the gap for the Stirling group.”
“Hmph, she brought it upon herself, serves her right!”
Jason peeled another grape and fed it to Evadne, “I heard Acacia paid the hospital bill and then left Mr. Stirling to go abroad to avoid the scandal. I suppose she won’t dare to return to Elmsworth for a while. That poor little girl was completely ignored by Acacia. As per your instructions, I’ve sent her to a welfare home in Elmsworth that the Ashbourne family has sponsored. She’s doing well in her new environment, so you can rest a**ured.”
“What a shame!” Evadne swallowed the grape.
“Huh?”
“It’s a shame Acacia and Thaddeus didn’t end up together. They’re both fundamentally selfish and cold–hearted, they should be locked together for life.”
Just as Evadne exited the game, she noticed a player named Rose sent a friend request, with a pretty high game level.
She didn’t think too much of it. As a gaming master, she received friend requests from players at home and abroad daily. She was just intrigued by the username “Rose“, so she accepted the request.
Soon, Rose sent a message. [Can we play together?]
Cifer, [I’m about to log off, maybe next time.]
Rose, [then, can we meet for a coffee at the K Orld Hotel?]
A few minutes later, Evadne hurried to the coffee shop on the third floor of the hotel.
The coffee shop was pretty empty at that moment. Avery sat alone by the window, the setting sun casting a glow on his tall figure, making him particularly eye–catching.
“Mr. Avery”
Evadne walked up to him, surprised, “When did you get here? Why didn’t you let me know?”
“Theard you were busy and didn’t want to disturb your work. I had nothing to do since I just got back, so I thought I’d wait for you here.”
Avery smiled, waving his phone, “Turns out, as soon as I log into the game, I see you online. That’s why I dared to contact you.”
“What would you like to drink? It’s on me.”
Evadne found him to be too considerate. Even his unexpected visit made her feel like she owed him an apology.
“Hmm, I’ve tried three different types of coffee. I’m not thirsty now, but I’m a bit hungry.”
Avery pushed up his gold–rimmed gla**es, his smile sincere and pure, “President Ashbourne, can I try the cooking at your esteemed hotel? I’ve been living in Helgen for years, and I haven’t had a taste of authentic local food for a while.”
Knowing that he’d been waiting for her for a long time, she felt that it would be rude to refuse him, so she generously agreed, “Sure, my treat. Enjoy!”
She had Jason book a posh private room and prepare a few signature dishes by the hotel’s top chef for Avery.
During the meal, the two chatted and laughed, the atmosphere as cordial as ever.
Outside the door, Jason leaned against the wall in distress, faintly hearing Ms. Evadne’s cheerful laughter from inside, making him feel uneasy.
Jason utterly despised Thaddeus.
And as for Avery, Jason wasn’t too fond of him either.
There were always some people in this world who you knew at first glance that you couldn’t be friends with, who you instinctively resist from the bottom of your heart.
Although Jason liked Evadne, he wasn’t the type of person with strong jealousy, he wouldn’t feel unhappy just because he saw other men interacting with Evadne.
He just felt that Avery, who always wore a pleasant smile, seemed to be hiding a deep scheme, making him elusive. His behavior was unpredictable, even Evadne struggled to anticipate when he might suddenly show up by her side.
It was just too hard to guard against.
The head chef at K Hotel is really something, the dishes are delicious. This meal is all thanks to you,” Avery said with a satisfied smile.
“Thank you, Actually, I’ve been wanting to treat you to a meal, especially since you saved me,” Evadne replied softly and genuinely.

“Ms. Evadne, saving your life surely warrants more than just a dinner, doesn’t it?” Avery tilted his head slightly, his face beaming with a charming smile.
Evadne was momentarily taken aback.
The next second, two tickets to a concert appeared before her eyes. Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
“Christina, the famous Aetheria pianist, her first concert is tonight at seven. Shall we go together?” Avery invited her with a wide smile on his face.
Evadne was caught off guard.
Perhaps fearing her rejection, Avery stared at her intently, his voice lingering and full of suggestion.
“Ms. Evadne, I think you wouldn’t decline such a small request from your lifesaver, would you?”
In the president’s office at the Abemathy group.
