Chapter 15: Eavesdrop and Slap

Chapter 15: Eavesdrop and Slap

"Hello? Lyka, my daughter?" My face immediately lit up with a smile upon hearing my mother's voice. I never tire of hearing her voice. "Hello, Mom? How are you? Dodong? Datdat? Father? Is everything alright at home?" I asked, and her laughter echoed through the phone. "Relax, my daughter... You're asking too many questions. We're all fine here, Lyka. Thank you for sending money every week. Now, our family can eat three meals a day!" She exclaimed with joy. I smiled, picturing her smiling too as we spoke. "...I'm planning to send Dodong to school next year. I carefully budget the money you sent and saved some from laundry for Dodong's education... Datdat is getting better from her illness... As for your father, he doesn't want to use the money you sent for reasons I don't understand," she shared. I had been smiling throughout our conversation, but my smile faded with her last statement. Why is Father like that? Does he still not agree with my job? I hope one day he will come to his senses. I'm just trying to help our family. "I'm doing well here too, Mother... They treat all the maids here kindly," I responded to her questions about how I'm doing in the mansion. "Really? Is there anyone flirting with you there? You mentioned that your boss has a child, a young man, maybe? Does he show any interest in you? That's how it goes in those boss and maid love stories on TV!" She exclaimed with excitement. I didn't know whether to smile or be disgusted by her teasing, so I maintained a neutral expression. "You can watch those boss and maid love stories on TV! Haha!" She continued teasing. I didn't interrupt her because it was the only time I could hear her burst into laughter since I left home to work here. "Mother, what? Me and Sir Kiro? Oh, come on..." I began to respond. "Huh! Just as I suspected, Lyka!" I was startled by the voice from behind. It was Joday. I turned to face her, her eyebrows raised as if she had caught a criminal. And I'm certain, I am not a criminal. I quickly bid goodbye to my mother and ended the call so that Joday and I could have a

conversation. "H-huh? What do you mean, Joday?" I asked, sliding my cellphone into my pocket. She smirked at me and said, "Is that what you and your mother were talking about? Sir Kiro, right? What are you planning? What are you up to? Is it because you're so poor, Lyka, that you want to get involved with our boss and flirt with him under the guidance of your mother? How pathetic." Her words dripped with sarcasm. I was taken aback by what she was saying. She's being ridiculous. She's overthinking and creating her own story. Clearly, she misunderstood everything. "What are you talking about, Joday?" I asked, my own cell phone already tucked away in my pocket. She raised an eyebrow and laughed as if something was incredibly amusing. "It's true, isn't it? Well, the first time I saw you, I had a suspicious feeling about you... Maybe what I said to you before was true—you worked at a club or a bar, flirting and entertaining men. And now, you're here, pretending to be a maid but secretly flirting with Sir Kiro! You always have excuses! And now, I just heard you and your mother talking about your so-called 'relationship' with Sir Kiro?!" "You're talking nonsense, Joday!" I exclaimed, my frustration growing. I couldn't help but slap her. My anger was boiling inside me. The things coming out of her mouth were pure lies. How dare she insult me like that! "Shut up, Joday! Stop making up these freaking stories. How could you judge me so easily just by eavesdropping on my mother's call?!" The shock in her eyes was evident from the slap and my words. I was surprised by my own actions and words. They had come out of me so suddenly. "...And what's your problem with me? I've noticed your animosity and mistreatment towards me for a while now! What have I done to you? If this is about Sir Kiro, spare me your attitude. I don't have any feelings for our boss. Just... just stop judging people!" I shouted at her, leaving her stunned. Yes, that was the right thing to do—just leave her there. I'm not good at controlling my temper, and unfortunately for her, she eavesdropped and fabricated a story. What is wrong with her? I immediately left the maid's quarters and went outside the mansion to get some fresh air. NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.

Annoying people with their unfounded thoughts, making up stories in their minds just to upset someone. What did I do to her? I wanted us all to be friends since there are only four of us, but it seems like I still have an enemy. I let out a sigh and ran my fingers through my hair. "Lyka? What are you doing out here?" I nearly jumped when someone touched my shoulder and spoke. "M-Madam! I thought it was a ghost..." I replied, still feeling my heart racing. She gave me a forgiving look. "Oh, I was just admiring the plants in your garden... Madam," I lied, shifting my gaze to the plants in front of me. She smiled at me. "I've been wanting to rearrange these plants, Lyka," she said, and an idea sparked in my mind. "Madam! Tomorrow, we can work on arranging them together! I'll be happy to help!" I promised with enthusiasm, forgetting my earlier troubles. Perhaps it would be a good way to distract myself from the stressful events of the night. I suddenly remembered my mother's love for plants. They were like her children. Whenever we visited her friends, she would bring home flowers and immediately plant them. I think her plants were her way of finding solace in life. She treated them like pets, and her pets like children. I smiled at the thought. "That's a wonderful idea, Lyka! Let's fix the garden tomorrow then!" Madam exclaimed. We made our way back into the mansion, feeling the coolness of the night. I headed straight to the maid's quarters, where I found Joday and Doday busy applying makeup. Actually, they seemed to have a lot of makeup in their hands. I ignored them and noticed the irritation on Joday's face. I climbed onto my bed and drifted off to sleep. I hope tomorrow will be a great day. We're going to do some planting!
