Chapter 50: Secret Conversation
Chapter 50: Secret Conversation
I was left momentarily speechless by his endearing address, ‘my queen’. My heart fluttered at the unexpected affectionate term, and I found myself staring into his eyes, unable to look away. It was surreal to hear him call me that, and I couldn't believe how much his words affected me. "Ahm, I'm kind of speechless. Is that a pick-up line to woo ladies?" I finally managed to respond, trying to hide the blush that crept onto my cheeks. He returned my question with a mischievous smile, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of camaraderie with him. "Tsk. I think you forgot something," he retorted, echoing my previous words back at me. I chuckled, realizing that he was playfully mimicking my manner of speech. "W-what? You're copying me, ah!" I teased, feeling a warmth in my heart at this playful exchange. It was a rare moment of lightness between us, and I cherished it deeply. "You said when we were in my car that 'we would just continue this later.' Where is your ‘later’ one?" he reminded me, and my eyes widened in surprise as I recalled the intimate moment we had shared in his car. Did he still remember that too? I certainly couldn't forget it. I remained silent, unable to form a coherent response, and he burst out laughing. I pretended to keep a stern expression, but inside, I was thrilled to see him laugh so freely. His laughter was contagious, and I couldn't help but feel a warm glow in my heart. Our light-hearted moment was interrupted by the sound of sneezing, and we both turned to see Madam, Kiro's mother, entering the room. I immediately stood up and bowed my head in respect, trying to compose myself. "Oh my! I'm happy to see you laugh like that, my son!" Madam exclaimed with joy, oblivious to the awkwardness of the situation. My heart pounded in my chest, fearing that she might suspect something between us. "Lyka, why are you standing and bowing there? Sit down, lady," she said warmly, and I quickly obeyed her command, trying to act as natural as possible. Inside, I was nervously swallowing, hoping she wouldn't sense the tension in the air. "M-madam, a-ahm let's eat?" I stammered, trying to shift the focus to something mundane. I knew I had to be cautious not to let her suspect anything about the deeper connection between her sonText © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
and me. "HAHA! I'm done, Lyka... Oh, it's fine, continue your meal with Kiro, and I'll be back in the study room for work!" I didn't quite understand why Madam was laughing so cheerfully, but I simply nodded and offered a polite smile, "All right, Madam." After Kiro and I finished our meal, I thought of bringing Madam a refreshing juice for her study session. As I approached the study room door, I noticed it was slightly ajar, and I could hear voices from inside. Curiosity got the better of me, and I unintentionally eavesdropped on a serious conversation between Miss Linda and Joday. "M-madam, what if she found out?" Joday's anxious voice reached my ears, and I couldn't help but frown in confusion. Who were they talking about, and what did they mean by ‘found out’? "She will not know, if you do not tell her," Madam replied with a tone that seemed to hold a hint of secrecy. I felt like I was intruding on something personal, yet my curiosity didn't let me leave just yet. "You know they seem to have a connection so why did you still accept her, Madam? I am hurting for the child," Miss Linda's words perplexed me even further. I was puzzled by their cryptic conversation and couldn't quite grasp the context. "It's because of that, they have a connection, Linda... You know that–" Madam started to say, but before I could hear more, Kiro's voice from behind startled me, making me yelp in shock. "Lyka, what are you doing here outside the study room?" Kiro asked, and I quickly turned around, trying to mask my surprise. "You startled me, Kir-sir!" I stammered, my heart still racing from the unexpected interruption. "L-lyka, you are here outside the door... Have you been here for minutes? Did you hear anything?" Madam inquired with a hint of concern. Caught off guard, I tried to gather my thoughts. "Madam? I just arrived here. I wanted to bring you something to drink, and ahm, I did not hear anything from your conversation or anything..." I replied, trying my best to sound composed and truthful. I offered her the glass of juice and respectfully excused myself, signaling my intention to return to work. As I left the study room, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had stumbled upon something significant. Miss Linda and Madam's conversation left me with a hunch that there might be more to Kiro's life
and past than I knew. My mind raced with questions, but I knew it was not my place to pry into their affairs. Respecting their privacy, I decided to focus on my duties and put the curious thoughts aside. Yet, the mystery lingered in my mind, and I couldn't help but wonder what secrets were concealed behind the mansion's closed doors. – Our day went smoothly, but ever since I overheard the conversation between Miss Linda, Joday, and Madam, I couldn't shake the feeling of being disconnected from them. I sensed that whatever they were discussing was linked to the reason why Miss Linda seemed distant towards me. It seemed like I had no allies in this mansion, and their secretive conversations only added to my isolation. In contrast, Kiro and I grew closer since the incident at Aunt Tarling's apartment. We spent more time together, with him helping me clean his bedroom. My eyes wandered to a rectangular box sitting on the side, the same box that he had forbidden me from opening before. Curiosity gnawed at me, and I couldn't help but wonder what was inside. "Hmm, you want to see what's inside that box?" he noticed my gaze fixated on it. I hesitated but decided to ask, "Can I?" He smiled and nodded, "Yes, but not now." I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness about finally uncovering the contents of the box. "Next week, I'll show you what's inside— is that okay with you?" he asked. I agreed, trying to conceal my anticipation. What could be in there, and why did he keep it so secret? As we continued cleaning, he unexpectedly mentioned Lily, and my heart skipped a beat. "You know what? I remembered Lily when I saw you," he confessed. My chest tightened, wondering why he would compare me to his ex-girlfriend. And of all the many people in the world, why did he remember Lily from me? "But when I got to know you better, I realized you were entirely different from her," he explained, pulling me into a warm hug. I was curious to know more, so I probed, "You compared me to her at first? Why?"
"And why did your perspective suddenly change, and you said I was too far away from her?" I pressed for answers. His response brought a smile to my face, "You are different because you are Lyka. And the 'too far' in a good way." His words comforted me, and I felt a sense of relief. I didn't know where our relationship was heading, but I didn't want to rush it or put a label on it just yet. Kiro didn't ask about my feelings, and I didn't bring it up either. "Let's not talk about her anymore, she might haunt us," I jokingly suggested, trying to break the intensity of the moment. "Yeah, I respect her soul," he replied, a hint of sadness in his eyes. We decided to leave the past behind and focus on the present, enjoying the comfort of each other's company without the burden of their history. Whatever lay ahead for us, we were ready to face it together, step by step. But I was wrong all along.
