Chapter 430
Deep in the wilderness, far from any trace of civilization, there stood a cabin nestled among ancient forests that seemed untouched by time. At this moment, Stuart was alone, his body bearing the marks of an unknown injury. Thick bandages encased his arms, thighs, and chest. The wounds seemed to have been carefully cleaned and tightly bound, ensuring no trace of blood remained to attract predators.
He stood near the cabin, motionless, almost like a statue.
As one approached closer, the sound of someone snoring could be heard from within the cabin.
An hour later, the door to the cabin creaked open.
A man with a long beard, dressed in jeans and a flannel shirt, stepped outside.
Upon seeing Stuart at his doorstep, the bearded man finally burst out, "How much longer are you planning to linger here? I've told you already, I'm not leaving. Don't you understand human language? If you keep this up, you're going to die out here!"
Stuart responded with a grim tone, "As long as you come with me to save someone, you can name your price."
The bearded man, clearly irritated, replied, "Get lost! I've secluded myself here for a reason. What do you think I could possibly want? My entire family is gone, and if it weren't for my fear of ending my own life, I'd be gone too. All I want is to live out my days in solitude. Can't you understand that?"
Stuart stood silently.
He understood perfectly, but this man was the one he had painstakingly found after much effort.
Bringing this man back was the only hope for the old man's survival.
Stuart wasn't even sure if the old man was still alive, but driven by a stubborn resolve, he was determined to bring help.
He had discovered this place two days ago.
After offering a high-stakes bounty on the dark web for Dr. Edmund Thompson, a renowned yet reclusive doctor, old neighbors and
acquaintances came forward with information.
When Norbert fell ill, Stuart rushed to this remote area based on those leads.
He came alone, trusting no one.
In such perilous conditions, he couldn't afford to rely on others.
Fortunately, Dr. Thompson hadn't ventured too deep into the wilderness, and Stuart managed to locate him.
But no matter what Stuart said, Dr. Thompson refused to leave with him.
Stuart had even attempted to use force, but a skilled doctor, especially one who could survive in the wilderness, had numerous ways to deter others. After attempting to take Dr. Thompson by force, Stuart found himself poisoned.
If not for Dr. Thompson's aversion to
having a dead body at his doorstep,
which led him to administer an antidote, Stuart might have perished there, unknown and unmourned.
Realizing that his usual tactics were futile against someone who had no fear of death, and who wouldn't help if coerced, Stuart resorted to simply waiting.ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
The wilderness was a terrifying place.
With its labyrinthine terrain, deadly flora and fauna, and the constant threat of poisonous insects and fierce predators, not to mention the drastic changes in weather, it was a place where one could easily dose their life.
Stuart had been in this no-man's-land for four days.
It had taken him two days to find the doctor.
And now, he had been waiting outside Dr. Thompson's cabin for two days.
