Chapter 1109: I Need to Think About It
Upon hearing Yanis' words, Ryan also furrowed his brows, "Ivan... he's not the same as you."
Yanis looked at Ryan, about to ask what was different, but hesitated and held back the question.
"I need to think about it."
After a moment of silence, Yanis finally responded to Ryan's statement.
Ryan didn't want to rush things, so he nodded, "Alright, take your time to think."
Yanis acknowledged with a soft "Hmm" and had Aunt Gloria see Ryan out.
When Aunt Alice returned, she happened to see Ryan driving away.
Walking up to Aunt Gloria, Aunt Alice asked, "What was that person here for just now?"
Aunt Gloria hadn't heard the conversation between the two, so she shook her head honestly, "I don't
know."
Aunt Alice frowned slightly as she watched Ryan's car leaving, "Is Mrs. Lawrence doing alright?"
Aunt Gloria thought for a moment, "She seems okay."
Aunt Alice didn't press further and entered the house with her belongings, "Let's prepare lunch."
Aunt Gloria took the bags from Aunt Alice's hands and turned to go inside.
As Aunt Alice entered the house, she walked over to Yanis, "Mrs. Lawrence, are you alright?"
Yanis leaned back on the couch and shook her head gently, "I'm fine."
After responding, Yanis checked the time and said, "You don't need to prepare lunch for me. I'm going
to the company to see Zane later."
Aunt Alice looked at Yanis and asked, "What about the shrimp dumplings?"
"Let's have them for dinner or maybe tomorrow."
With that, Yanis got up and said, "I'll get ready to go out."
Aunt Alice wanted to say something more, but Yanis had already headed upstairs, so her words
remained unsaid.
Yanis quickly tidied up upstairs, then called Zane to let him know she would be coming to the company
to see him. Zane suggested sending Albi to pick her up, but Yanis declined, saying she would drive
herself and meet him downstairs for lunch.
After their conversation, Yanis hung up and grabbed her car keys before leaving the house. While
driving halfway, her phone began to ring.
It was a call from Ivan.
Seeing Ivan's name on the screen, Yanis furrowed her brows slightly. She answered the call, "Ivan."
"My dad went to see you?"
As soon as the call connected, Ivan's voice came through the line.
After Ivan's straightforward question, Yanis hesitated for a few seconds before responding, "He came,
but he didn't say much."
"Yanis, no matter what he says, you don't have to pay attention. Okay?" Ivan's voice carried a gentle
tone.
Thinking of what Ryan had said earlier that day, Yanis hesitated for a moment before asking in a low
voice, "Ivan, are you really not planning to come back?"
"Why should I come back?"
"She... seems to be in bad shape."
Both of them knew who the "she" referred to. So after Yanis spoke, there was a moment of silence
before Ivan finally replied, "I'll come back when the time is right."
Yanis understood the implications of Ivan's words when he mentioned the "right time."
The right time... Perhaps that would be a time when they might not even have the chance to meet
again?
Yanis took a deep breath, suddenly feeling a weight on her chest, like a heavy stone pressing down,
making it hard for her to breathe.
"Well, you're busy. I have something to attend to as well," Yanis didn't say much and kept her
conversation with Ivan brief before ending the call.
Unbeknownst to Yanis, after Ivan hung up on her, he immediately dialed Ryan's number.
"Ivan?" Ryan sounded surprised upon answering Ivan's call.
Considering Ivan rarely called since he left for M Country, Ryan was a bit taken aback.
After a moment of silence, Ivan finally spoke, "Did Yanis call you?"
Even before Ivan could explain, Ryan preemptively asked.
Ivan answered, "No, she didn't say anything."
Ryan was a bit surprised, but he didn't press the matter any further.
"I went to find Yanis because I wanted her to have time to come and see your mother. After all..."
"Dad." Before Ryan could finish, Ivan interrupted him.
"Yanis rarely changes her decisions once she's made them. If she doesn't want to do something, don't
force her. Besides, it was my mother who abandoned her in the Lin family for her own sake in the first
place. She's been through a lot these years. You might not know, but I do."
Ivan's voice was soft, "So, she's feeling a bit uncomfortable right now. She doesn't want to cater to
anyone anymore, not even the person who gave birth to her."
With that, Ivan paused before continuing, "So, don't go looking for her in the future. If she figures it out,
she'll come on her own."
After listening to Ivan, Ryan fell silent for a while before responding, "I understand. And what about
you? When are you planning to come back? Or have you also decided not to see her?"
After a few seconds
, Ivan responded, "I'll come back when I have time."
Ryan sighed and didn't say anything more.
On the other end of the line, Yanis arrived at the Lawrence Group building and immediately spotted a
man standing by the entrance.
He was dressed in a suit, looking down at his phone.
Yanis didn't call out to him; instead, she stopped walking as she reached Zane. It was as if he sensed Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
her presence, for he looked up from his phone and met her gaze.
When he saw Yanis, he stopped scrolling and walked toward her.
As he got closer, Yanis opened her arms.
Zane approached her and embraced her tightly, "Why did you take so long?"
"Did you wait for a long time?"
Zane didn't address her question and asked instead, "Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?"
Yanis thought for a moment and replied, "Whatever you want, I'll eat it."
Zane held Yanis' hand and took the car keys from her other hand, "Then let's go to Banyan Garden."
Yanis didn't object; she nodded and followed Zane to the car.
As Zane was about to get in the car, Phoebe's voice rang out, "Bro!"
Zane paused and looked over.
Phoebe came out of the Lawrence Group building and walked up to Zane, "Are you leaving?"
Zane replied, "Taking your sister-in-law out for lunch."
Upon hearing that, Phoebe looked into the car, where Yanis was seated in the passenger seat. Without
hesitation, Phoebe opened the rear door and hopped in, declaring, "I'm going to be the third wheel.
Don't say anything; I won't get out of the car no matter what!"
With that, Phoebe closed the door, leaving Yanis to respond, "Okay."
