CLASSMATE
Zachary nearly dropped the phone he was holding. When Professor Lichauco motioned for the three students to enter, he focused on the third student, not the first two. He had his breath during those times.
What she’s doing here?
Zachary awoke to the repeated chimes of his mobile phone. He touched it while his eyes were still closed.
“Hello,” he said in response to the incoming call.
“Hello too, damn! Zach, wake up. Before attending University, we will visit the hospital. take a shower.” On the other line, Jarem commented.
He endured a headache. Why did he forget that they had to be on time? They go to school together on the first day of every semester. The only distinction is that they are no longer with Ivo. Because he is still comatose in the hospital, they decided to visit together before going to the University.
He viewed the clock on the bedside table. The time is 6:45 in the morning. An immediate frown formed on his forehead. When he did not see Samarra, he jumped out of bed to find her. He went to the restroom first, but she was not there. He dashed down the stairs and entered the kitchen, where he observed only a post-it note adhered to the thermos tumbler.
Zach,
K.
Samarra.
Samarra’s writing stunned him. Samarra wants him to think about what K wrote. She’s lazy even when it comes to writing. He’d already opened the sealed food Samarra had prepared for him. He smiled when he saw the food that Samarra had ready for him.
He was staring at her from head to toe. Her long, wavy hair is neatly braided on both sides. She was dressed casually in a black polo shirt, brown khaki pants, and black sneakers. He would never have considered her simple attire. Her beauty is still overwhelming. That’s how he frowned. She was wearing oversized glasses. Disguise? Probably not, because it’s suitable for her.
“Damn! My super B. Her style is perfect for her.”
He quickly returned his gaze to Enzo. As he looked in front of him, he steadily whispered to Harken. They were the only people in the back who sat next to each other. Jarem and Vince preferred to sit in the middle.
“Who?” he asked maliciously, but he already knew who was meant. He just wanted to know if his suspicions were correct. He didn’t want to assume because two women were standing before him.
“The one wearing a black polo shirt,” Enzo said without blinking as he looked at his wife. Damn! With how he looked at his wife, he wanted to punch Enzo.
“Introduce yourself to them.” When Prof. Lichauco spoke again, he caught his attention.
“Hi! Jazzy Mae Salazar here.”
“I’m Jameson Serrano.”
“My name is Samarra Miel O’ Ha-”
Samarra’s speech was cut off. The two men in the back suddenly stood up. Everyone had turned around, so she couldn’t help but look. That’s how she sniffed at the man staring at her. Her focus was not on the two men but the man staring at her. On his handsome face, there was no sign of a smile. There was no mischievous smile when he was away from Zachary, with whom he was at home. He was stunned for a moment and blanked his expression.
“What’s going on, you two?” Prof. Lichauco asked the two men, who both shook their heads.
“Ah, you can sit wherever you want,” Prof. Lichauco said to the three students.
Jazzy walked over to the second row. Jameson, on the other hand, preferred the last row. Simultaneously, Samarra wonders where she can sit away from Zachary. She chose to sit next to a man crouched at his desk as if asleep.
“Gosh! She’s going to sit next to Vince.” She heard a woman say before she was sitting.
“Sam, is that Mr. Escaler?” Prof. Jace asked. She just shrugged because she had no idea who he was referring to.
“Because I’m nice today, and it’s the first day-” Prof. Lichauco did not complete his speech. The students were already yelling.
Prof. nodded. Lichauco. “We have a surprise quiz for you because you all appear happy. Is this only a quick test? When you’re finished, you can leave.”
Upon hearing what Professor Lichauco said, the students fell suddenly silent. As Professor Lichauco presented the exam questionnaire, the scream ceased. Zachary gives Samarra occasional glances.
Samarra searched her bag but couldn’t find her pen. Shit! Couldn’t she possibly have left Mr. Montserrat’s Office? Samarra looked at the person next to her. She was forced to wake him up and borrow a ballpen.
While Zachary was answering the quiz, he was distracted by Samarra’s behavior. He observed her as she rummaged through the bag.
What exactly is she looking for? When she woke Vince, he frowned. He wished he could reprimand her, but it was too late. Knowing Vince, he was hesitant to wake him.
“Hey,” Samarra said, lightly shaking the man beside her.
When the man awoke, they both exclaimed, “You!” Some of their classmates averted their gaze.
“Samarra, right?” She nodded in response to what the man said. She had forgotten what his name was.
“Do you happen to have an extra ballpen?”
The man nodded, and someone took it from his pants pocket and handed it to her.
“I appreciate it.” She took up the ballpen he had given her.
Samarra breezed through the quiz they were given. She rose to present his paper to Prof. Jace.
“Excuse me,” she said next to her to allow her to pass.
“Are you finished?” She nodded and returned the ballpen he had loaned her.
“I appreciate it.” And she made her way to the front.
“She’s finished?” she heard as she walked by.
“Oh, Samarra,” Prof. Lichauco said as he took her answer sheet. She gave him a nod and examined the watch he was wearing.
“All right, you can come out.” Samarra nodded and walked out of the classroom.
Samarra couldn’t help but smile as she walked down the corridor. She recalls Zachary’s stunned expression as he looked at her. He wondered if he had ever been edible. Assume it reads what she wrote.
“Beshy, Samarra!”
She looked at the person who had said her name. She scowled at the woman who was running toward her. Jameson is up next.
“Beshy.” Jazz wrapped her arms around her arm, which surprised her. Nobody had ever held her like that before.
“Are you finished as well?” Samarra inquired of the two.
“Yes, beshy. Gosh! I bled to answer, “Jazz stated.
Samarra is astounded by what Jazz has done to her, how Jazz has clung to her arms. Despite her confusion at the call, she managed to smile at Jazz.
“What are your plans?” Samarra inquired.
“In the cafeteria, right? Our next class begins at 11 a. m. In any case, are we simply one course? Perhaps it is acceptable for us to be together.” Jazz suggested.
She wanted to laugh at what Jazz said because it was true? She and Jameson are old friends.
“Ms. Samarra, what Ms. Jazz suggested looks fine,” Jameson interjected as if reading her mind. So, she nodded in agreement with them.
“Yes!” Jazz yelled, and Jameson clung to them.
She smiled and shook her head because it was her first time meeting a naughty and chatty acquaintance. She spent the entire morning with Jazz and Jameson, and she couldn’t count how many times she smiled at her stories. Jazz is the only one that speaks to all three of them.
“Ahm, Samarra, you know I seem to have seen you?” Jazz enquired. They are currently at the Pizza House inside the University. Jazz desired the canteen, but she chose locations with few people because she did not want many. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
“Really?” Jazz nodded and cocked her chin as if wondering where she had seen her.
“Maybe she just looks like her,” Jameson responded.
“Maybe. Wait? Is that your Jowa from earlier?” Jazz inquired.
“Jowa?” With a frown, she inquired of Jazz. She doesn’t understand what she’s saying.
Jazz questioned her dramatically, “Jowa? Jowable like a boyfriend? A handsome man, like your earlier companion?”
“Ah, I don’t have jowa,” she admitted to Jazz. Because the truth is that she’s married, she wanted to tell Jazz that, but she didn’t.
“You, Jameson-” Jazz didn’t finish her question. Jameson shook his head immediately.
“Oh, you’re so handsome. Do you have a girlfriend?” Jazz’s words were met with a smile and a nod from Jameson.
“Are we in SF?” Jazz’s melancholy language to them.
“SF?” Jameson inquired.
“Single Forever,” Jazz exclaimed happily to them, making Jameson and Samarra laugh.
