I Refuse to Divorce

Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Zoe sold the house two days later. It was worth fifty million, but the buyer haggled the price to twenty-eight million. Mia thought the buyer was too rtuhless, but Zoe gritted her teeth and sold it anyway.

Noah was still in prison, and he could not afford to wait. Aside from his lawyer fee, she needed money to support her family. Under the stress of multiple predicaments, Zoe had no choice but to sell.

She found a way to meet Noah after selling the house. Noah was a dashing, dignified young man who used to always have a pack of rich ladies at his heels. Looked a tad washed out, he was now talking to Zoe through a glass partition.

“Find Liam. He’s a lawyer. He can help both of us, Zoe.” From NôvelDrama.Org.

She was about to ask more, but time was up. They were taking Noah back to his cell. He looked at Zoe, unwilling to leave her alone.

Everyone in the family loved and cherished her ever since she was young, but now she had to take up the responsibility of caring for the entire family. Noah read the newspaper. He knew all about Zoe’s current situation.

As he was leaving, she stood up and gripped the bar until her knuckles turned white, “Noah…”

He tapped his lips and murmured soundlessly, “Take care of yourself.”

Zoe watched as he was taken away and sat down after much time had passed.

Liam. She had to find Liam.

Zoe got a call from the training institution just as she left the prison. They called her Mrs. Lockwood politely and told her they were not hiring anyone for the time being.

She hung up the phone and remained quiet. It was probably Mason’s doing. He was forcing her to go back to him. She was not about to fool herself and think he started to love her because they spent a long time together.

No. He merely needed a wife who waited for him at home and someone to act as a front to maintain his company image. She was nothing in his eyes.

Her phone rang. It was supposed to be an unknown caller, but Mason was on the other end of the phone when she picked up the call. His voice was cold and aloof, as usual.

“We need to talk, Zoe!”

It was noon and the sun was shining bright in September, but it did nothing to warm her. She walked into Lockwood Corporation half an hour later. Ava was waiting for her downstairs and escorted her all the way to Mason’s office on the top floor. He was reading a document when she opened the door.

A ray of sunlight shone through the window and brought out his gorgeous looks. He was a dashing man. Every single action was so elegant and graceful that even Ava could not get enough of it.

“Ms. Zoe is here, Mr. Mason.”

He raised his eyes and looked at Zoe. It had been a week and Zoe was still the slender, gorgeous lady he knew, albeit a tad washed out now. However, he had not gone soft because of that. He had never been compassionate toward her.

Looking at Ava, he said, “You may leave now. Close the door behind you.” He looked at Zoe after Ava had left and scoffed, “I can finally meet up with you after a week, Mrs. Lockwood! Why don’t you grabbing a seat? You used to love making snacks and coming here. Don’t you remember where the couch is?”

“I’m not here to reminisce the past with you, Mason.”

He stared at her and smiled coldly, “Are you here to beg, then?” He took a cigarette out of its packet and started smoking. He fixed his gaze on her the entire time. He was sexy when he looked at ladies this way.

He blew out a puff of smoke and said softly, “I crunched the numbers for you before you came. Given your family’s current situation, you’d have to earn forty thousand dollars to support your father’s medical fee every month. That includes the amount of money you got from selling away your wedding ring!”

Zoe remained unfazed. “I’ll find a way around it as long as you don’t intervene, Mr. Mason!”

“Mr. Mason?”

He sneered, “It was just last week, I believe. Your hands were around my neck as you were having a good time and calling me Mason. It had only been a few days. Are you seriously calling me Mr. Mason now?”

With that, it was clear he was not going to let her go. Zoe said softly, “You don’t love me, Mason! I didn’t ask for anything when I divorced you. You didn’t lose out on anything. Isn’t that right? You can just marry another young, beautiful lady.”

Cigarette in his hand, Mason trained his eyes on her. Then, he sneered, “Am I supposed to let you cheat on me and sleep around with guys, knowing full well that you used to be my wife?”

That was harsh.

Zoe was pissed off as well. She said with a hoarse voice, “I have to use my last resort if you refuse to divorce and let me go!”

Mason was extremely displeased to hear that.
