I Refuse to Divorce

Chapter 77

Chapter 77

Mason wanted to slide the wedding ring onto Zoe's finger. She curled her finger inward slightly, resisting the act.

He stared at her until she finally flattened her hand, allowing him to place the ring on her finger.

The diamond ring sparkled on her delicate finger.

Mason's voice was slightly hoarse. "Mrs. Lockwood, welcome back."

Zoe trembled slightly. She had finally returned to him, ultimately selling herself to Mason.

However, from now on, she was not just Mason's wife. She was now Mrs. Lockwood.

Mason did not stay overnight.

The next day, he did not show up in person. Instead, he sent Liam directly to the hospital to meet Zoe. Liam brought two sets of documents.

One document was an agreement for the transfer of Lockwood Corporation's shares, and the other was related to Noah's case.

Zoe met him in the hospital's small reception room. Liam was more intimidating in person than on TV.

He glanced at Zoe and smiled faintly. "Mrs. Zoe, you seem more delicate than I imagined."

Without waiting for Zoe's reaction, he began the procedure. "Mrs. Zoe, let's first sign this transfer agreement. As soon as you sign it, you will immediately own 2% of Lockwood Corporation."

With a touch of sarcasm, he added, "In high society, many wealthy women spend their entire lives without touching half of their husband's wealth. Mrs. Zoe, you have a very successful marriage."

Zoe replied self-deprecatingly, " I should be grateful to Mason."

Liam politely smiled. Pointing to the signature line, he instructed her to sign.

Zoe raised her hand to sign. Perhaps due to the loose hospital gown, the faint scars on her arm caught Liam's eyes as she raised her hand. Those marks were unmistakable. Anyone could guess what had happened.

Zoe had committed self-harm.

Suddenly, Liam thought about lighting a cigarette. However, as he reached for the cigarette box, he remembered they were in a hospital.

In the time that he had considered that, Zoe had already finished signing the document.

After Liam confirmed everything, he handed another document folder to Zoe. He asked her to review it while he stepped out to smoke two cigarettes.

While smoking, all he could think about was the scars on Zoe's arm. It had been a shocking sight.

Finally, Liam understood the situation.

Zoe was not as affectionate toward her generous husband as one might think. In the upper echelons of society, marriages lacked true love.

In the hospital room, Zoe eagerly examined the documents. Liam was professional, impressively so. The materials he provided would significantly boost their chances in the legal battle. As Zoe flipped through the pages, her eyes welled up.

At the doorway, Liam stood quietly.

He softly said, "Mason gave me three million for this case. Mrs. Zoe, rest assured, we will win this."

Zoe looked up. In her eyes, Liam saw a hint of tears.

After Zoe saw Liam off, she walked around the hospital's small garden. Feeling the cool breeze of autumn, she realized she had not been outside for a week.

Outside, the maple leaves had turned red. She stared at them in a daze, and a familiar voice came from behind.

"Zoe?"

Zoe turned around and was surprised to see Gregory.

Gregory had accompanied his mother to pick up a prescription. Coincidentally, Gregory's mother met an old friend and found a place to chat, while Gregory took a casual stroll.

He frowned at the sight of Zoe in a hospital gown. "Are you sick?"

Since Zoe had guessed his intentions, she did not want to provoke him. She nodded and tried to leave.

He caught her by her delicate wrist.

Zoe instinctively struggled. "Gregory, let go of me." This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

Gregory was about to say something when he noticed the wedding ring on her finger. It glittered brightly on her ring finger, and the sight stung his eyes.

With a sneer, he spoke mockingly, "I thought you had some backbone. You're back with Mason already?"

A proud man by nature, Gregory considered Zoe someone he could not obtain but had secretly desired. In his frustration, he lost his rationality and leaned in for a kiss.

As he held her slender shoulders and attempted to kiss her, Zoe, without thinking, slapped him.

The sound echoed around them. It was a wake-up call for Gregory.

He was someone accustomed to admiration. He had never experienced rejection from women before.

He caught her hand, but the next moment, his gaze froze. Zoe's arm had a few deep cuts, and they looked like fresh wounds.

Was this the reason she was in the hospital?

In a daze, Zoe forcefully pulled her hand away from him. She stared at him, her lips trembling.

"Gregory, don't you have anything better to do than to torment women? Are you that desperate? The Sanders family is bankrupt, my brother is serving ten years in prison, and Mason is my husband. What's so wrong about going back to him?

"Tell me, who else apart from Mason can spend three million to bring a renowned lawyer like Liam out of retirement? And who else can give me 2% of Lockwood Corporation's shares? Tell me, who can? Did I make the wrong choice? What does any of this have to do with you, Gregory?"

Gregory stood there, somewhat stunned.

After a while, he whispered, "I don't know."

Stepping back, Zoe spoke softly, "Of course, you could never fathom the hardships of ordinary people. In your world, you have the freedom to do as you choose. You and Mason are the same, oblivious to others' difficulties. You only care about whether you're happy or not, whether it hurts or not. Other people's thoughts and situations are nothing to you."

Having said that, she no longer cared about Gregory and left on her own.

Gregory still stood there silently.

Gregory's mother finished chatting with her friend and came looking for Gregory. Seeing his strange expression, she asked.

Gregory smiled bitterly. "I'm fine, Mom."

When he left, he glanced in the direction Zoe had gone but failed to notice a figure standing outside the hospital department hall.

It was Mason.

With an inscrutable gaze, he could not reveal any emotions. After a long while, he withdrew his gaze and walked toward Zoe's hospital room.

Pushing the door open, Zoe was packing her things. She was to be discharged tomorrow.

Suddenly, someone embraced her tightly.

Mason pressed against her ear, his voice slightly husky. "Did you just send Liam off?"
