Chapter 89
Chapter 89
Ella felt her heart ache to the point of tears. She tightly held Zoe's hand. "Why is he so fickle? Is he going through an early mid-life crisis or something?"
The atmosphere, initially heavy, lightened up when Ella made that remark. Zoe even chuckled. "It's quite possible!"
The two chatted for a while. Ella looked at Zoe with a complex expression.
"Last night, Gregory ended up in the hospital. He broke a rib, and it was Leslie who sent him there. Gabriela couldn't stand Gregory's feelings for you. The siblings had a big fight at the hospital, and it was Mrs. Margaret who eventually came to resolve it. I guess the Waldolf family is in chaos right now."
Zoe stirred her coffee with her head down. In a low voice, she said, "I didn't provoke him."
Ella naturally understood that she was worried about Gregory not giving up. In simple terms, Gregory only had some fear of Zoe because she was Mason's wife.
If that were to change someday…
Ella did not dare to think about it. She refrained from bringing up these unpleasant topics.
The two had not met in a long time. Ella declared that she would go buy some sexy lingerie. She claimed several young models were circling around Leslie, and she needed to fix herself up nicely to keep him firmly in her grip.
Zoe knew she was being insincere. In fact, Ella probably did not love Leslie at all.
At the mall, Ella dragged Zoe into buying a few items. Zoe felt they were a bit too sexy, but Ella insisted that dark lace looked best on her fair skin. After that, Ella went in to try on more clothes.
At that moment, her phone rang. It was Mason.
The playful expression faded from Zoe's face as she answered, her voice soft. "Mason, is something wrong?"
Mason was at the Lockwood Corporation. Sitting in his luxurious CEO office, he casually spun his chair, seemingly nonchalantly asking, "Daisy mentioned that you went out. Are you meeting someone?" Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
Even though he sounded gentle, Zoe sensed a hint of control in his tone. She remained gentle. "Mason, you don't need to be so indirect. You don't have to keep doubting me."
Silence ensued from the other end of the phone. It was evident that Mason was a bit displeased.
Softening her tone, she continued, "I went shopping with Ella."
Perhaps feeling a bit better, Mason's tone became gentler. "What did you buy? If you have time, help me pick up a few shirts."
Despite feeling a bit lighter, Mason's request still baffled Zoe.
'Why is he so adamant about presenting us as an affectionate couple? Can't we just go back to the clean and straightforward way we were before?'
She gently reminded him, "Your shirts are all custom-made. Mason, did you forget?"
A woman might be evasive, and Mason picked it up immediately.
Nevertheless, Mason did not confront her. Instead, he smiled slightly and used a somewhat ambiguous tone, saying, "I did forget, Mrs. Lockwood."
After hanging up, Zoe felt emotionally drained. At that moment, Ella rushed out, declaring that something urgent had come up and saying she had to leave. They promised to chat again later, and Zoe settled the bill, asking the store to send the items to Ella's place.
It was still early when she left the mall. The cinema entrance was crowded with people.
It turned out that the movie "My Ex-Boyfriend 4" had just been released. In front of the posters, young men and women were taking pictures for social media. Watching them, Zoe felt a bit nostalgic.
She was only 24, but her heart was already filled with wounds.
She did not want to go home. She impulsively bought a movie ticket, clutching it in her hand as if she had stolen two hours of happiness.
Just before the ticket check, a familiar voice came from behind. "Zoe!"
Zoe turned slowly.
She saw Mason.
The impeccably dressed Mason...
