I Refuse to Divorce

Chapter 94

Chapter 94

In the elevator, there was a lingering silence between them.

Eventually, Mason broke the silence. "Why did you get the medicine yourself? The contraceptive pills developed by the Lockwood Corporation—"

Zoe chuckled. "What's the difference? They're all contraceptive pills."

She looked at him, casually asking, "Why did you follow me? Don't you need to accompany your lover? Lilith seems to be in desperate need of your company."

Mason's eyes were deep. He stared at her face, trying to interpret her expression.

After a while, he shifted his gaze away, adjusting his tie and the position of the tie pin in front of the mirror. His eyes met hers in the reflection, and he casually asked, "What about you, Mrs. Lockwood? Don't you need my company?"

Zoe did not avoid his gaze. She looked into his eyes, her tone calm. "Having the title of Mrs. Lockwood is enough for me."

Clearly, this statement irritated Mason.

Mason stared at her for a long while, his voice cold. "Well, I should thank you for your generosity, then."

They parted ways, not amicably. Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org

As Mason took the elevator back, he could not resist ripping off the tie pin and the tie that had delighted him for half a day in front of the mirror. In the process, the tie pin accidentally pricked his hand. This only worsened his mood.

Observing his darkened expression, Ava guessed that something had upset him during his encounter with Zoe. She wisely refrained from provoking him.

Lilith, surprisingly, was quite perceptive. Only Carly, in her misguided cleverness, assumed that Mason must have come back because he was more concerned about Lilith.

Carly brazenly said, "Mr. Mason, although you and Lilith don't have the formal title of husband and wife, there are many things we—"

"Mom!" Lilith's face turned red.

She knew very well that Mason did not have that kind of affection for her. His expression toward her was always lukewarm. When he looked at Zoe, it was always with desire.

Lilith was on the verge of tears.

Carly dared not say more. She cautiously analyzed Mason's expression.

Since Mason was currently upset, he disdainfully told Ava, "Reduce the fund allocation for the Wright family from now on."

Lilith's face turned pale. Thanks to Mason's care, the Wright family had been living quite extravagantly in the past two years. As the saying goes, it was easy to go from frugality to luxury but difficult to go from luxury to frugality. If Mason truly reduced the funds, their days would become much harder.

At that moment, she could not help but recall Zoe's clothes and the bag she was carrying. She had read in magazines that it was a limited edition tote worth over 85 thousand dollars.

She felt a sense of unfairness in her heart.

With trembling lips, she said, "Mr. Mason, my mom didn't mean it."

Mason's tone was indifferent. "I don't want there to be a next time."

After saying this, he left with Ava.

He had come to the hospital to check on a newly prescribed medication that had been given to Lilith.

Unexpectedly, he ran into Zoe and stirred up unpleasantness again.

After Mason left, Carly's legs were still shaking. Lilith cried, "Mom, why did you have to confront her? Look what you've done!"

In the evening, Mason drove back home, parking the black Bentley in the mansion's courtyard. After turning off the engine, he lit a cigarette before leaving the car. Perhaps due to the meeting room's air conditioning being too cold, he felt a bit uncomfortable and likely had a fever.

Entering the hall, he asked the maid, "Where's my wife?"

Taking his coat, the maid replied politely, "Mrs. Zoe came back in the afternoon and is probably taking a nap now."

Mason raised his hand to check the time, scoffing lightly.

He ascended the stairs, and upon reaching the second floor, he pushed open the door to the master bedroom.

Zoe had just awakened from her nap, leaning against the couch by the French windows, reading a book. She looked idle and carefree. This made Mason even more uncomfortable. It seemed that their argument at the hospital did not bother her much.

He unbuttoned two buttons of his shirt as he approached her.

Zoe raised her eyes to look at him.

In a relaxed manner, Mason leaned on the other side of the couch, tilting his head slightly backward and closing his dark eyes. He was already naturally good-looking, and in this twilight scene, one could describe him as especially pleasing to the eye.

Zoe looked at him for a few moments, and she considered him quite charming in her heart. No wonder Lilith clung to him so desperately.
