Irish Queen
*Cal*
Hearing those words from Heidi makes me wonder if I have truly died. Maybe all of this is a figment of my imagination. Maybe God is allowing me to live one last happy moment before I get to suffer for eternity in Hell.
But there's no way this perfect woman in front of me is an illusion. She looks so real. Her eyes-her beautiful eyes that I love so much-are staring at me so intently and expectantly that I couldn't look away even if I wanted to.
And she loves me.
She's willing to turn her back on everything she believes in to be with me. This is much more than I deserve. So much more.
I realize I don't want a day to go by that I don't get to hear those words come out of her mouth.I want to spend every day telling her how much I love her, too. I don't deserve her, but it will become my life's mission to make sure she doesn't regret her choice, that I shower her with love and attention, and that she knows how much she means to me. I am far from perfect, but I'll try my best to be for her.
So, instead of replying to her, instead of saying anything to all, I push myself from the bed, hissing in pain. Heidi widens her eyes, trying to prevent me from moving, but I force myself to a sitting position, leaning back on my elbows. The pain is almost enough to make me faint again, but I fight it, taking deep breaths to stay aware.
This moment could wait, but I can't.
"What are you doing?" Heidi exclaims in shock. "You can't sit up! You're going to open your wound again!" she warns, but I ignore her.
I look up at her, certain I look pathetic, sweat pouring from my forehead because of the effort, my torso completely covered with bandages. But when I realize what I'm about to do, the adrenaline kicks in, making me completely forget about the pain as I manage to take her hand in mine. "Heidi, I know my lifestyle is not ideal and nothing you'd ever choose for youself. I also know I'm far from what you deserve, but I promise you I'll make you the happiest woman on this planet if you agree to stay by my side," I begin.
Her eyes are filled with tears again as if she is anticipating what I'm about to ask.
"I wish I could do this the right way, exactly like you deserve, but I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. I'll do whatever I can to give you everything you need and anything you want."
"Cal," she whispers between sobs.
I chuckle, shaking my head. "I know I don't have a ring with me right now, but I'll get you one as soon as I'm out of here. Will you marry me, Heidi Sullivan? Be my wife, my partner, my guardian angel," I propose. "You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I can't bear the thought of not having you beside me everyday until the day that I die."
Her tears stream down her face as she looks at me. I can tell she's slightly stunned at my sudden proposal. So much has happened in the past couple of days, I'm sure she wasn't expecting anything like this to happen.
I wasn't either, but given the circumstances, I have no doubt this is the right decision.
"Can you please lie back down?" she finally asks, ignoring my question.
She didn't say yes-but she also didn't say no. I frown, wondering what this means exactly.
"Please, Cal," she insists, takng me gently by the shoulder and helping me liet back on the bed. The adrenaline is washing away, and the pain is coming back at full force, so I do as I'm told, but my eyes never leave her face.
Once I'm tucked under the blanket, Heidi leans down and places a kiss on my lips. It's a tender kiss, but filled with emotion. Her wet cheeks brush against mine, and I feel how cold her skin is.
Then she pulls away, her blue eyes taking me in. "Nothing would make me happier than marrying you, Cal Duncan," she finally tells me. She walks around to the other side of the bed where there's more room, pulls the sheet up, and lies beside me. "We'll-we'll talk about it again when you have had time to recover from almost dying, okay?"
I wrap my arms around her immediately, afraid that she'll vanish if I don't. She doesn't seem to want to go anywhere other than here. This is where she belongs. With me.
"You won't be able to go back on your word, hear me?" I warn her in a joking tone, squeezing her slightly.

"You're out of your mind, Cal."
Just having her here causes me to suddenly feel a hundred tiems better. She's the only medicine I need. Nothing hurts anymore now that I have Heidi close to me. It makes me want to laugh when I realize how head over heels I am for her. I never once considered myself lucky enough to be able to find someone to share my life with. Then Heidi appeared, and everything I thought I knew changed.
"I don't want to go back on it," she states firmly.
"Good,” I murmur, leaning forward to claim her lips.
Our tongues dance together, slowly at first, but then the room seems to heat up. My hand is on Heidi's ass before I know it, pressing her against my side, since I can't turn to face her. Her right leg is on top of me, her knee brushing against my hardness. It's excruciating not to be able to move more, but I'll have enough time to enjoy her for the rest of our lives. For now, I'll take what I can get from her.
Heidi moans against my lips, scooting closer to me as if she wants to close the little space left between us.
"I can't believe you're here," I whisper against her mouth.
"Me neither. I was firm on my decision to leave you," she informs me with a mischievous smile on her face.
I squeeze her ass tighter.noveldrama
"And I'll make sure to punish you for it," I reply.
"Yeah?" She raises her brows at me. "How will you punish me?"

I sneer, pecking her lips again. "You'll see."
"Hmm." She looks up at the ceiling in contemplation. "I wonder how a mafia boss punishes people who go against his wishes."
I tilt my head to the side, cursing myself for being shot in the stomach. I wish I could show her right here and now exactly what I meant by that. "Don't tease me, sweetheart. I might have been shot, but I'm not dead," I tell her in a playful tone. "I also have a very good memory, so I won't forget the torture you're putting me through now."
"Is that so?" She finds my crotch and grips my hard length through my pants, making me hiss and curse. She starts stroking me up and down. My eyes roll to the back of my head, and I lean back on the pillow, just enjoying how great she makes me feel. I make a mental note to make sure I pay her back for this.
We don't get to finish what we started because of my condition and also because my stupid stomach starts hurting again, but I keep Heidi beside me, enjoying the time we have to ourselves before the doctor comes back to check on me.
I try to order her to go back home so she can rest properly, but she tells me to shut up, affirming she won't leave my side until I'm clear to return to the city myself.
We start discussing all of our plans for the future-where we want to live, what the wedding is going to be like, when we'll hold the ceremony, and who we're going to invite. Her eyes sparkle everytime she shares her dreams and plans, telling me she's had it all figured out ever since she was a teenager.
"You can do whatever you want, my Irish Queen," I promise her, placing a kiss on her forehead.
Heidi narrows her eyes, confused with her new nickname. "Irish Queen?" she repeats, sounding genuinely curious.
I shrug. "Well, you're the queen of the Irish Kings now. I used to call you Bookgirl before, so... I guess you've been promoted."
Heidi laughs. "It does sound like a promotion... Irish Queen." She rolls the words on
her tongue as if evaluating how they sound and how she feels about it. "You know, I kind of like it. It's powerful and sexy."
"Exactly like you," I state, pulling her into a hug. "I love you."
