Chapter 797 Cyrus' Call
Chapter 797 Cyrus' Call
Clenching her teeth, Chloe forced out a smile and said, "They fit, but I'm not into lace anymore. Cotton is just more comfortable. If you get the chance next time, buy me ones with cartoon characters. Or maybe it’s best you don’t. You're not that young anymore and buying underwear with cartoons might make the salesperson think you have some special preferences."
Joseph's face sank. It was evident that Chloe's tongue had gotten sharper over the years.
Chloe's mood improved upon seeing the smile vanish from Joseph's face. She then turned to say bye to Lucas, who was squatting in the bushes like he was taking a dump.
Lucas was taken aback, but his face soon lit up with a smile, and he wondered if they had made up. His mother had been wanting to introduce him to some girl from the neighboring village recently. She had mentioned it so many times, and he planned to take a day off tomorrow and have a serious discussion with that girl so as not to waste each other's time.
Just when he got back into the car and was about to speak, he noticed Joseph's gloomy expression through the rearview mirror. He swallowed his initial words and asked instead, "Sir, shall we head back to the office now?"
Without lifting his head, Joseph replied coldly, "Where should we go otherwise? Your place?"
"Understood, sir."
"Lucas, am I that old?"
"What? Of course not. You're in the prime of your life and you're charming," Lucas said honestly.
Joseph was in his thirties. Even though he was not as youthful as Noah, he definitely had the charm of a mature man.
His brows relaxed a little, but he still sounded irritated as he asked, "Do all women like pretty boys these days? If not, then why does Chloe keep saying I'm old?"
"Not really. Everyone has their preferences. Maybe Ms. Chloe’s just joking with you," Lucas replied.
"Hmph." Joseph snorted coldly. "She better be."
He might not have a youthful appearance, but he was fit enough to handle her.
The weather turned gloomy and it started to rain. Summer in Docwood was always unpredictable, and the pattering raindrops masked the sounds of the traffic outside the car.
After pushing through and completing her tasks, Chloe felt particularly drained due to her period, so she contacted the Sullivan family driver to pick her up. It was likely that the driver informed Noah, as he ended up coming instead.
Noah got out of the car and draped his denim jacket over Chloe. "Weren’t you wearing a skirt when you left this morning?” he asked.
Chloe remained composed and replied softly, "I got my period and my skirt got stained, so I bought this at a nearby store."
"You should rest at home if you're not feeling well. Anyway, this is my fault. I should've noticed it earlier," Noah said, his voice thick with concern and his eyes filled with remorse.
Chloe gazed at him, and suddenly, her eyes grew teary. She could not understand how everything had turned out this way. Noah was so nice to her, so why would he work with Duskfall to inflict pain upon her? Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
"Let's go," Noah said.
Chloe sniffled and lowered her head so that Noah would not notice her emotions. During the ride, she stared blankly at the passing scenery. Just then, her phone rang. She picked it up and glanced at the screen. Her fingers trembled slightly and she hurriedly hung up the call.
'Oh no, it's Cyrus. He must be calling me to ask me about my progress!'
Noah glanced at her and asked, "Who is it?"
"A real estate agent."
"Real estate agent? But you didn't answer the phone, so how did you know it was a real estate agent?"
