Chapter 815 Seeing the Bonfire or Seeing Joseph?
Chapter 815 Seeing the Bonfire or Seeing Joseph?
Chloe could not argue with that statement as it was true. She was no longer the naive and trusting girl she once was, no longer willing to leave herself vulnerable to others. It seemed wiser to deceive others than to be deceived herself. However, she genuinely did not believe this to be a big deal. If Zoelle cared that much, she would be honest about it.
Observing that Chloe had no intention of elaborating, Zoelle let out a heavy snort and pressed on, "I don't know what happened between you and Joseph, but you're engaged to Noah now, who happens to be my good friend. I won't tolerate any betrayal from your end. If I get so much as a whiff, I won't be so quick to forgive you then."
"I don't—"
"Enough. I’m going to engage the company of some handsome men."
"Shall we go to the bonfire or head home?" Noah asked flatly as he watched Zoelle walk away.
Chloe looked toward him, a hint of disappointment in her eyes. "The bonfire," she replied. She had yet to inform Ophelia about Xavia's fake pregnancy.
"Do you want to see the bonfire or do you want to see Joseph again?"
"I have no such intentions. Don’t overthink things." Chloe responded with a sigh, a touch of annoyance in her voice.
"Your actions make it impossible for me to fully trust you." Noah's slender fingers slowly caressed Chloe's neck, then suddenly pressed down onto the red mark. His fingernail scraped against her delicate skin.
"Oww, that hurt!" Chloe's face contorted in pain.
"You know the feeling of pain, so why don't you learn from it? You never put any weight to my words," Noah said with a smile on his lips. However, his eyes were bloodshot, frightening to behold.
Chloe slapped his hand away. She was a little scared. "I don't understand what you're saying."
Noah closed his eyes, taking several deep breaths to suppress his rage before saying, "Let's go home. I don't want to lose my temper here."
He had been too kind to her, allowing her to hurt him without restraint. What if they were alone? Would he become unhinged?
"I'm not going home. I have something to do here," Chloe refused, and her attention shifted away. "I need to find Ophelia and tell her the truth about Xavia."
"I'll send someone to deliver the message. Let’s go home now."
"No!" Chloe shook off his hand, her brows furrowing in annoyance.
This impatience wounded Noah deeply. He suddenly recalled Desmond's words about not indulging Chloe too much and being assertive when necessary.
"I'm speaking to you kindly, yet you're unwilling to listen to me?"
Chloe did not wish to talk to him anymore and started to move away. "I don't know what's gotten into you. Let's talk when you're calm, okay?"
"Come home." He grabbed her wrist, leaving no room for debate.
"No! Let go of me!"
Noah paid no heed to her reluctance and dragged her away. Chloe stumbled and she fell, her knee scraping against the cobblestone path. A large piece of her skin was torn off, her elbow was
bruised, and her entire body ached.
Tears filled her eyes as she blew on her wounds, her expression one of pitiful injustice. Noah turned back, and noticing his injuries, his boiling anger cooled and was replaced by remorse. Just as he was about to speak, Joseph's fist smashed into his face.
Thud!
The fierce punch tore Noah’s skin and caused blood to spill from his mouth.
Joseph suppressed his anger and bent down to scoop Chloe into his arms.
Noah looked up, seemingly undeterred by the pain. He threatened menacingly, “Put her down, and don't make me repeat myself."
"You expect me to put her down after you’ve hurt her?”
Noah’s leg then swung out. Joseph, having anticipated this, swiftly sidestepped to evade the blow. He understood that Noah would not allow their escape without resistance, so he kept his guard up. He gently placed Chloe on a stone chair and gently reassured her, "Wait here. I'll take you to the hospital soon." © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Chloe was worried. "Don't be rash. I'm fine."
The pain was manageable, and she could endure it. This all felt so absurd to her. From Joseph taking advantage of her to Noah suspecting her, she had yet to accomplish what she had set out to do.
"It's fine. I’m just teaching an unruly kid a lesson."
