Chapter 845 You’ll Have a Mother Someday
Chloe turned her head and locked eyes with Joseph. Her face was devoid of expression. Her eyes narrowed slightly and her lips parted, but Jasper quickly interjected, "No, Ms. Chloe isn't married yet. She's not my mother."
The waitress smiled awkwardly. "I'm sorry. I thought you two were a couple.”
This included Jasper, who was dressed in a formal khaki green shirt complete with a small bow tie, looking obedient and handsome. He looked like a miniature version of the man behind him, seemingly destined to grow up to be a heartthrob.
"It's okay. I'm used to this since I don't have a mother," Jasper said in a serious tone.
His words caused Chloe's heart to seize up. On impulse, she found herself wanting to take a family portrait with Joseph. Though Jasper had not requested spicy chicken wings, she could see a desire hidden deep in his eyes. She did not know that what he longed for was not the insignificant chicken wings but the profound need for motherly love and a harmonious family.
Emily silently tugged at Chloe’s sleeve and shook her head, signaling her not to be impulsive. Such a photograph could end up being used in the store's promotionally ads and displayed prominently. As Chloe was about to marry Noah, it would be inappropriate.
Catching her friend's meaning, Chloe’s brows furrowed before relaxing. She then bent down and gently told Jasper, "You'll have a mother one day in the future. She's just a little delayed."
Jasper nodded his head in agreement, but in his heart, he did not want any other woman to be his mother. Just like his father, he wanted only her.
Having not indulged in fast food for quite some time, Chloe ended up ordering a box of nuggets, two cups of coffee, and some fries. She sat down with Emily to dig in, and for Joseph, she ordered
nothing for him. She believed a man of his taste would surely disdain fast food and consider it a waste.
Joseph did not make a fuss and snorted arrogantly. He had no desire to eat these things as nuggets contributed to weight gain and instant coffee was known to be unhealthy. He needed to maintain his figure if he wanted to be better than the younger men.
Though he abstained from eating, Joseph's posture was relaxed as he propped his chin up with one hand. He lazily watched the passersby outside the window. He seemed to be accompanying the child, but closer inspection would reveal that none of the people outside caught his interest as his attention remained fixed on Chloe. His narrow, cold eyes were filled with profound affection and cautious love.
Chloe, on the other hand, was absorbed in helping Jasper unpack his food. She gently inquired about his school life, behaving like a mother with her child. The warm sunlight filtered in through the window, illuminating her beautiful profile and making her glow.
Joseph's mouth curled into a small smile. The simplicity of sitting down for a peaceful meal was a longing of his. Sadly, this moment of tranquility was abruptly shattered.
"Uncle, that’s the guy who caused the commotion at the hospital earlier. He scared away my patients and even threatened to hit me," the sleazy male doctor from the hospital accused as he pointed menacingly at Chloe's group.
Not in the mood to argue, Chloe rolled her eyes and slammed her card onto the table as though flaunting her wealth. "Are you trying to frame me? Just tell me how much you want and I'll consider it charity to a beggar." Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
"Since the lady is so generous, I won't beat around the bush. For damaging medical equipment, disturbing the order at the hospital, and causing mental distress to the doctor, the total comes to
125 thousand dollars," the sly Dean said, producing a POS machine. "Will that be on credit?"
"Uncle, since she has the money, let’s round it off to 150 thousand dollars," the doctor whispered, his eyes gleaming with greed.
