Chapter 39 Capabilities
“Is Ms. Adam a local?” One of William’s friends was the first to speak, his eyes filled with admiration as he looked at Maggie.
Maggic responded with a smile, not pretending to be someone she isn’t.
In no time, she became acquainted with several people, and the atmosphere was quite pleasant.
The singing and dancing on the stage were particularly exhilarating. William poured another glass of wine for Maggie with a smile. “Ms. Adam. did yo
come here just to make friends?”
Maggie smiled as she looked at the man in front of her.
To be fair, William was attractive, though not as refined and elegant as Nathael. Nonetheless, he had a charm of his own, not to be dismissed.
What set him apart was that William had a pair of tired eyes, probably due to his indulgence in wine and women. There were two patches of greenish–gray under his eyes, making him seem drained from the inside out, floating and powerless, as if he was missing something.
“As expected. I can’t hide anything from you. Besides wanting to befriend you, I’m also here for the Herschire Cultural Park project.*
Maggie got straight to the point. After another glass of wine, her stomach was burning, and the hot sensation almost instantly rushed to her cheeks, making her fair skin slightly flushed.
William suddenly clapped his hands, his large hand resting on Maggie’s shoulder. “I appreciate your straightforwardness!”
Maggie smiled and said, “I know many people are competing for the Herschire Cultural Park project, but I believe that as long as you speak up, the Camerons will surely win.”
William nodded and poured another glass for Maggie. “I raise my glass to Ms. Adam.”
He didn’t continue the conversation, and Maggie wasn’t in a hurry either.
After all, even though William might not have a formidable strategy or means, he was born into a wealthy family. They weren’t foolish. On the contrary, they were smarter and more astute than ordinary people.
Maggie slowly drank her glass of wine, and the men and women around her immediately applauded.
Only then did William speak, his lustful eyes falling on Maggie, looking her up and down. “This matter is not difficult, but what can you offer me?”
“What do you want?” Maggie pretended not to understand, her almond–colored eyes smiling.
William’s fingers landed on her shooth shoulder, gently rubbing it a few times, then he changed the subject with a smile. “How about/we find another place to talk?”
Maggie smiled. “Mr. Hansley, do you have feelings for me?”
Probably not expecting her straightforwardness, William was stunned for a few seconds, then smirked. “I
“I’ll raise my glass to Mr. Hansley again. Maggie poured a full glass for William.
Pervert, trying to get me drunk?
Don’t expect to get away with it.
William looked at Maggie, raised his glass and took a few sips, but didn’t drink much.
“What do you think?”
Maggie’s lips were bright red, her beautiful eyes sparkling, reflecting the dazzling lights of the nightclub, making her look like a captivating fairy.
William was restless and somewhat unable to restrain himself.
But after all, he was used to being flattered by women, so he wasn’t as eager as a naive young boy who had never seen the world.
Suddenly, Maggie leaned over, close to William’s ear. Her fingers lightly brushed his lapel, teasing. “Of course. I’m willing. But my grandfather asked me to bring a message to you. I just don’t know if you will still be willing after hearing it?”
The woman carried a delicate fragrance, which was indescribably pleasant in the chaotic smell of smoke and alcohol.
“Master Cameron?” William picked up his glass, his eyes glancing at the woman close to him.
Grandpa said he would definitely keep your affair with Madam Lydia a secret. But for the Herschire Cultural Park project, we still need to rely on you.”
As soon as Maggie finished speaking, William’s face changed instantly.
He pushed Maggie away and grabbed her neck, his eyes filled with panic and uncase, his pupils bloodshot. “You wench, you’re threatening me!”
Maggie seemed to have anticipated his reaction. Disregarding his hand on her neck, she chuckled. “I heard that Madam Lydia has a son.”
Upon hearing these words, William’s eyes were on the verge of bursting, his grip on her neck tightening, his eyes filled with murderous intent.
The intense pain caused Maggie to struggle for breath, her vision spinning and then fading to darkness.
However, she continued to smile because she knew that William was afraid of his secret being exposed and wouldn’t dare to kill her.
The sudden change in William’s demeanor left the people around him momentarily stunned. They all stood up and inquired, “William, what’s happening?”
“Did Ms. Adam say something that upset you?”
Several individuals stepped forward to mediate, but they were somewhat taken aback. After all, he and Maggie had been engaged in a pleasant conversation just moments ago.
the blood had drained from it.
Maggie smiled and touched her neck.
Tsk, he almost killed me….
In the next moment, William turned to his friends and stated, “It’s nothing, just a misunderstanding.”
Maggie smiled, gazing at William without uttering a word. William was not a virtuous man. He was a womanizer who had toyed with numerous women, and there were rumors that some had even died.
However, he was cautious in his actions, and the Hansley family always covered for him, so no one had ever caught him in the act.
But the situation involving Madam Lydia was a dead end.
The scene returned to tranquility. Maggie poured two more glasses of wine, handing one to William, and said with a smile, “I raise my glass to you, Mr. Hansley.”
“How did you find out?” William took it and downed it in one gulp, likely due to feeling flustered.
Maggie was in a good mood, so she also drank another glass and said with a smile, “Although the Camerons may not be highly influential, they are still a wealthy family with a history spanning hundreds of years. If my grandfather wants to uncover something, he always finds a way.”
Her composed words shifted the blame onto Master Cameron. Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Indeed, Maggie had come here this time to hold the Camerons accountable.
Wasn’t Master Cameron hoping to win William’s favor through her? She was determined to make William completely despise him!
A sense of indescribable satisfaction surged within Maggie’s heart. Her captivating and radiant face resembled that of a poisonous poppy.
William silently consumed two more glasses and said coldly. “The project at Herschire Cultural Park, right? Fine, I’ll assign it to the Camerons. But let me be clear. If you dare to breathe a word about this, I’ll ensure you have nowhere to hide!”
Maggie was not intimidated by his threat. She raised her glass with contentment and lightly clinked it with his, saying, “It has been a pleasure doing business with you.”
“And inform Master Cameron that he should know when to cease. Greed is not a virtue,” William added, clearly intending to ruin the Camerons.
Maggie smiled and stood up, whispering in William’s ear, “Don’t worry. My grandfather always praises your abilities.”
