Love At Last

My answer is still no

Lily

Our last squabble worried Cayden deeply and he was starkly perplexed as he did not know what aspect of the quarrel to focus on. Whether he was to focus on the ache that his chances of ever being with me were now almost bleek or the sore betrayal he felt when I reaffirmed what (baby daddy) had accused. He tossed and turned, twisted and swirled, walked to and fro his room space all in a bid to get the chaining thoughts of our altercation. He finally settled on to subdue his worries and focus on work, as he was now certain that if he could not be with me the there was no need to be here.

Meanwhile, here I was starstruck. I could barely put a definition to how I was currently but the obvious was hardly deniable, I was missing Cayden and I couldn’t help the feeling. I missed him in my space and how he made my days bearable for me. Even the universe could tell that we were both missing each other because everything around us reminded us of each other.

I was just about to restock the pastries that has finished on the show cabinet after yet another rush hour when (baby daddy) walked into the shop. I see him and I immediately put on a half baked smile as he approaches the counter.

“Look who the winds of chaos blew into my shop today” I say in sneer and he defends himself.

“I come in peace today Lily and no other motive whatsoever” he returns the smile

“And why do I find that hard to believe?” I ask with a raised eyebrow

“You shouldn’t be my love, in fact I brought you some flowers” he pulls out the flowers from behind him and I immediately get irritated. He brought flowers that I was allergic too

“Don’t bring those close to me please! You should know I’m allergic to those, whatever happened to rose flowers?” I yell and withdraw a little from the position I stood.

“Oh my, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know you were allergic to them. It has been so long now that I can barely remember your likes and dislikes” he immediately dumps them in a trash can closeby and re-enters the conversation.

“Lily I’m one again sorry about that but I got those because I wanted show you just how much I cared about you”

“Well thank you but you didn’t have to honestly” I wave off his gesture and he almost gets provoked but controls himself.

“Those flowers were not the only reason I can…” he hesitates a little and then continues “I wanted if you were free to have lunch with me, so we could catch up on old times” he paused and wrung his medium sized hands “chat and laugh out loud like we used to yunno”

“Thank you for the offer (baby daddy) but I currently do not the leisure of engaging in any fun time” I take a second to look at his now changing face and then continue “especially now that my business is fast booming, I can barely spare time for such, I’m sorry”

“I’m not asking for too much of your time, maybe just an hour would do” he persist

“I’m sorry, but my answer is still no and that’s not changing”

He slowly becomes more pricked now but tries to hide it “Well how about my son, where is he? I’d like to spend time with him since you are so busy!”he raises two fingers from both arms in the air and clutches them in a manner that shows mockery.

“As much as I’d like you to spend time with your son, I don’t think that would be visible either”

“And why is that” he says with a now widened gaze

“Because my Candy is with my Granny and even they aren’t around either they both went to have someone fun

“Why are you trying to keep me away from my son” he asks in an exasperated manner but I immediately respond

“Nobody is keeping you away from your son, you lost that liberty when you abandoned him to suffer all this year’s” I respond in a recollected tone.

“Then why won’t you let me see him, Lily?” He was fuming and was doing very little to hide it

“Look I don’t know what you’re talking about I’m not…” the disappointment had become very unbearable for him and he could no longer bear staying in that space. He bolted out of the shop in frustration but I did not bother to call him back.

About an hour later, I looked out the glass window that kept my bakery inside only to see (baby daddy) obviously discussing something sensitive with another lady just across the street from my shop. The shock immediately creeps into my body and I hurry to look at the evidence Cayden had given me early. It was all true, everything Cayden had said about (baby daddy) was true. I thought to call Cayden but I knew that after our last altercation, he wasn’t going to be very willing to help me. I thought of telling Granny too but I knew she was only going to escalate the whole situation and I didn’t want that.

“Let me call the police department to confirm this details, maybe I’m just overthinking things” to my disappointment, the evidence were true and the police operative that spoke to me on the line asked if I had seen (baby daddy) but I lie, I tell him that I had not seen him but only wanted to confirm the rumors.

Later that night I stayed up till 2am in the morning, contemplating on what action to take next. I was confused. Granny came into the living room like she would always do to take her night glass of water and met me. My eyes were red and my baby cold, I was overthinking and it was evident all over me.

“Why aren’t you sleeping my love, is something wrong?”

“Nothing Granny, I’m fine”

“Not from what I’m seeing. If something is wrong why not call Jarod, maybe he can help”

“No Granny, I said I’m fine. Besides we had a little argument so I don’t he’d wanna help”

“My love, regardless of how bitter your argument was with Jarod may have been, I’m sure he’d still want to help. That’s what friends are for”

I still refuse in adamance and Granny takes it upon herself to call Jarod by herself, not know the true degree of misunderstanding Jarod and I had. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
