Love At Last

CAYDEN’S POV

It felt like my heart shattered into pieces, she could comfortably talk about Jared that way in my presence. Could Jared really have been saying the truth about he having a chance with Lily?

Lily and I drove off to a 5-star restaurant and when we got there, we ordered steak. I kept on remembering what Jarod said each time, and it caused me to be moody, I had even almost forgotten that Lily was with me.

What if Lily leaves me again and gets fooled by Jarod. I couldn’t bear to lose her again, seeing her face made me happy, she was my joy. And now it seemed like Jarod was having his way, how was he doing that?

LILY’S POV

Cayden was a lively person, and he made me laugh whenever we were together, but it was weird seeing him moody. It felt like something was wrong, and I had to ask him.

“Is there anything wrong?” I asked him.

“No, you can eat your steak,” he said.

A few minutes later, I noticed he had been playing with his steak and I had to ask him again if something was wrong, but he told me no.

“You know you can talk to me if anything is wrong, right?” I said.

I guess his mind wasn’t there as he didn’t reply to me.

Not only that, but I had high expectations for this date and this was what he could give me, steak and gloom.

Then I had to make a fake call of having to leave, and I declined him escorting me.

“Hello, alright, I’ll be there soon,” I said.

“Uhm, Cayden, I think I have to leave. I have an important thing to sort,” I said.

“On really? I’ll escort you,” Cayden said.

“No, don’t bother,” I said, then faked a smile and left.

After I left, I went straight to the beach and sat there for a while, I was so sad.

The next day, Cayden went to Lily’s restaurant and when he entered, Jarod laughed at him for long. He wondered why he did that.

“Why the hell are you laughing at me?” I asked, irritated.

“Oh, really? You really want to know?” Jarod asked sarcastically.

“I bet it’s nothing significant,” Cayden said.

“Oh! It is, it really is. You went for a date with lily and almost killed her with boredom. You couldn’t even keep a date with a woman, interesting. So, tell me, how are you a better match? You are boring,” Jarod mocked.

Cayden was shocked and surprised at how he knew.

“What do you mean by this? And how did you know she regarded it as boring?” Cayden asked, trying to sound confident.

“She came back annoyed and has been gloomy since then, you made her gloomy. You are really not fit for her. Her mood was really okay yesterday until you came to mention a date, which ruined her mood,” Jarod said.

“Stay out of my business!” Cayden warns.

“Nah, I think you should watch and learn from the boss and see how he wins a lady’s heart. Maybe when you’re better, you’ll use the skills on the lady coming for you,” Jarod said.

“You really have a way to annoy me,” Cayden said.

“You see, a man who gets angry easily, that is not a perfect match for lily,”Jarod said.

“Who are you to say so?” Cayden said.

“Her future husband,” Jarod said.

“What! How dare you?” I fired at him.

“All you do is get angry, you really aren’t capable to winning a girl’s heart with true intentions,” Jarod said.

As Cayden was about to reply, Lily came out of her office. She truly looked gloomy, I felt guilty that I had allowed my emotions get the best of me. I walked up to her and greeted her.

“Hey Lily, how are you doing?” I asked.

“Yeah I’m okay, what about you?” She asked.

“I’m alright too. Uhm, do you mind if we go on another date? You know we weren’t able to complete our date,” I said.

“Oh! I’m sorry, I have an appointment with Jarod. Maybe next time,” Lily said.

I felt heartbroken when she said that, and the worst was that it was in Jared’s presence she said that. I looked at Jarod and saw his victorious smile, I would rather not look defeated, so I acted like I was okay with it.Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.

“Alright then, perhaps next time,” I said and walked out.

“Hey, you’ll be fine. If her really loves you, he would find a way to make up for the disappointment,” Jarod said.

“Thanks, Jarod,” Lily said.

“Do you mind if we make it real? The outing?” Jarod asked.

“Uhm…. I’m sorry, I think I just want to rest,” Lily said.

After Lily closed up the restaurant, she went home and to her surprise, she got home and met Cayden playing with Jacek. Cayden looked up and was shocked to see her coming in at this time, he remembered clearly that Lily said they had a date together and wondered if they cancelled.

“What are you doing here? I didn’t expect to see you here,” lily said, still surprised.

“Uhm… Same here, this is the time calculated for you to come home from work, ” Cayden said.

“Uhm… Well, we cancelled. I was tired,” Lily lied.

Lily was happy that Cayden had tried to make up for the disappointment in his own way. She saw that Jacek was happy and already had a nice time. She put Jacek to bed and comes back to Cayden, who was waiting in the sitting room.

“So, I wanted to apologize for being so distant on our special date, yesterday,” Cayden said.

“Uhm, it’s alright,” Lily said as she blushed. Cayden could not see it as it was night already.

“So, am I forgiven?” Cayden asked.

“Oh no, Cayden do not act that way, I understand. But do you wanna talk about it?” Lily asked.

Cayden knew that it would be so childish to tell on Jarod so he told a lie.

“I think I was not feeling too well,” he said.
