Chapter 280
Beverley instantly flared up, tossing the towel from her forehead with a swift move, "Are you here to see me or to irritate me? If it weren't for the Sherwood blood running through that child she's carrying, do you really think I'd give her the time of day?" Hertha smirked, "Serves you right. That woman is clearly up to no good, aiming to climb the ladder with that baby of hers. Only you could fall for her 'innocent flower' act."
She had never cared for Millie, and it was only now that Beverley was catching on. Talk about being slow on the uptake.
When Murray heard his mother was in the hospital, he rushed over from the office. Before even stepping through the door, he could hear the sound of an argument. "What's the fuss about?" he frowned.
Seeing her son, Beverley straightened up, her complaints ready, "You're just in time. Your girlfriend is completely out of control! I kindly offered to pick her up after her class, and she gave me the wrong schedule and then had the nerve to talk back to me right there and then!" "In front of everyone, making me lose face. You know about my vertigo, and her upsetting me like that brought it all back!"
Hertha scoffed, "Mom, please don't say that. Millie is, after all, the one brother chose himself. Complaining about her now might backfire if they patch things up. Who knows how they might talk behind your back."
Her tone was dripping with sarcasm, oblivious to the darkening expression on Murray's face.
Wasn't sticking with Roseanne good enough?
To think he let Roseanne go for Millie, that... woman, causing Roseanne to miss out on her chance at Madeleine University. Hertha just couldn't swallow that pill!
Murray remained silent, but his face grew stormier by the second.
He ignored his mother's complaints and his sister's mockery, consulting the doctor again to make sure Beverley was alright before leaving the hospital with a cold expression.
As he opened the door to the villa, a soft and warm figure threw herself into his arms - none other than Millie.
She was wearing a silk slip dress, its black fabric making her skin appear even more porcelain. The deep V-neck revealed a generous amount of collarbone, and all Murray had to do was look down slightly to see the inviting cleavage. "Murray, you're back-"
Her excessively sweet voice was cut off as he pushed her away roughly.
Murray wiped his sleeve as if he had touched something dirty. "Murray..."
Slap!
Murray's hand flew, leaving Millie with a ringing ear, holding her face in disbelief. "Who gave you the nerve to talk back to my mom?"
Tears instantly filled Millie's eyes, "I just spoke out a bit more than usual. Did she complain about me to you? Why won't you listen to my side first? I'm a person too, with my own thoughts and wishes. I just didn't want to go to class, what's so wrong about that?"
Murray sneered, "Isn't this what you asked for?"
His words pierced the little dignity Millie had left.
He told her to get rid of the baby and take the money, but she refused, instead running straight to Beverley.
"So, what are you complaining about? Enjoying my mom's support while sending her to the hospital. Do you know what that's called?" Murray's voice was cold and merciless, "Playing both sides, hypocrite!"
"I-I didn't, why would even you say
that about me? I just love you so much, wanting to keep our child, to be by your side," Millie sobbed, still trying to profess her love even now.
Unfortunately, Murray wasn't buying any of it.
