Chapter 396 Carla Left
Chapter 396 Carla Left
"Mr. Terence, you can't do this to yourself! Although the baby is gone, you can still try again in the
future. Why do you have to hurt yourself like that?"
"Why? Because it is all my fault! I'm the reason Carla lost the baby! It's me who got involved with Rena
and led to this disaster!"
Terence roared in anger as he clenched his teeth.
He hated himself for not being able to protect Carla. He shouldn't have come to the hospital in the first
place. Rena did not deserve the attention he had given her.
He should have only cared about Carla and their baby. They were innocent! They did not deserve to
suffer like that because of him.
"Mr. Terence, it is not your fault! You were forced to do that. You didn't have a choice since Mr. Edmund
forced you to marry soon. Please calm down, Mr. Terrence! We all make mistakes. Don't be so hard on
yourself. Who knew that Rena would be so desperate?"
Nathan paused for a few seconds and said, "I know you would never allow such a mistake to happen if
you had known that's how Rena would react. Don't worry, Rainer and I will be on guard for you!" Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
Nathan held Terrence's fist in his hand and continued, "Mr. Terence, sometimes, fate plays cruel tricks
on us, and we can't do anything about it. If not this time, then it might have happened another time. We
can't escape such situations as they're bound to happen. Mr. Terence, try to think positively and don't
be so hard on yourself!"
You and Miss Carla are still young. There is still a bright future ahead of you two to explore. When the
time is right, you can have as many children as you want with her. You can't give up now. She needs
you, now more than ever."
Terence slowly closed his eyes and unclenched his bloody fist.
'Carla, I'm so sorry.
I keep telling myself that I will protect you with my life, but you still end up getting hurt because of me.
You're the only woman for me in my life. The only one I'll ever love, ' Terrence vowed silently.
Meanwhile, in Carla's ward.
After learning that she was awake, the doctor, who was in charge of Carla's operation, came to check
up on her.
"Miss Carla, you don't have to worry too much. It's not uncommon for women to experience a
miscarriage. It is not that big of a deal, to be honest. If you take good care of your body, you can still
have another baby,"
the doctor said in a relaxed tone as she adjusted the infusion tube.
"Thank you so much, doctor. Based on my current physical condition, how long should we wait before
we try to have another baby again?" Carla asked.
She didn't want to rush it, but Grandpa Nicholas couldn't wait longer.
"Well, it really depends on your resilience. Generally speaking, if you can make a full recovery from the
operation, you can probably bear another child in half a year," the doctor replied with a faint smile as
she flipped through Carla's medical records.
She then walked up to Carla's bed and lightly massaged her tummy before saying, "When you have
time, you should massage your tummy like this. It will help your uterus..."
"Doctor? The patient in the next room suddenly fainted. You should go and check up on her!" The
nurse interrupted the doctor before she could finish talking.
Her voice dripped with urgency as she stood by the ward's door.
"Okay. I'll be right over!" the doctor promptly replied.
Picking up her pace, the doctor then dashed out of Carla's ward and into the next room.
Carla got up from the bed when she heard a noise coming from the adjacent room.
As she turned her head around, the clipboard that had her medical records caught her sight.
The doctor must have accidentally left it beside her bed.
She reached out her hand and looked through the contents carefully. Although the medical jargon
confused her, the last sentence caught her attention.
The sentence read: 'Since the patient had more severe bleeding than any ordinary patient, she might
have an occasional miscarriage or even infertility in the future. Increasing the intake of nourishing food
can help her make a quick recovery from her injuries. The patient needs to stay in the hospital under
close observation for a few days.'
'What is that supposed to mean?
What do they mean by 'infertility'?' The mere thought filled her heart with an unbearable sorrow.
Carla sat on the bed as still as a rock for a while. She was taken aback by what she had just read.
When she heard someone's footsteps in the hall, she immediately put away the medical records. Her
heart raced, and her knees shook uncontrollably.
The nurse came in and took the medical records back while Carla sat on the bed stupefied as a log.
She blankly stared at the wall not knowing what to do next.
After some time.
Rainer picked up the staff of the Civil Affairs Bureau and drove them to the hospital.
Terence simply asked them a few questions about the procedures before letting them enter the ward.
However, when they stepped inside the ward, they found an unoccupied bed. The sheets were neatly
folded as if no one had been laying on the bed.
"Carla?"
Terence knocked on the bathroom door, but no one answered. Impatient, he twisted the handle and
went in, but found that there was no sign of Carla inside.
"Carla? Carla!"
——
Carla wrapped the coat around her body and went out of the hospital. She stared at the cloudy sky,
feeling depressed and dispirited at her condition. After she stood there disheartened for a moment, she
hailed a cab and got on.
Although she had just come out of an operation and was feeling feeble, Carla was still able to walk like
a normal person.
Terence kept calling her, worried sick.
However, she did not feel like talking to anyone at that moment, even to the man she loved dearly.
She leaned against the car window and stared at the view outside. As the car swept through the road,
everything swiftly retreated behind her, slowly fading with every passing moment.
She never believed in fate, but after all the things she had been through, she finally convinced herself
that maybe it was time to let go.
It was foolish of her to think that she could grit her teeth and hold on to hope as if everything would be
over soon and she could eventually go back to living a happy life with the person she loved.
But why did everything have to be so hard when it came to Terence? Why was there always something
getting in their way?
In the past, she thought that she didn't deserve such a good man like him. When she finally convinced
herself to be brave and accept her beloved, her real identity was exposed. It even led to the disastrous
incident, which became a huge barrier in their relationship.
When she bridged the gap between them and conceived his baby, she thought it was going to be a
brand new start for the both of them.
But right now, everything felt worse than it did before, and she was lost in the middle of this chaos.
Even if Terence didn't care whether she could have a child with him or not, she cared about it a lot and
she couldn't pretend as if everything was okay.
Moreover, if she couldn't have Terence's child, the An family would have no one to bequeath their
family business to in the future.
His family would never approve of her again.
After a long drive, Carla arrived at the Hua family's house in the HA City.
"Callie? What are you doing here?" Andrea asked with a look of surprise on her face.
Carla didn't answer. Instead, she walked straight into the house without saying a word.
Carla sniffled like a miserable child and hugged Andrea, trying to absorb all the comfort she could. She
couldn't keep her tears at bay anymore. "Mom, I've lost the baby! My baby is gone!"
"Callie, what are you talking about? What happened to the baby?" Andrea was completely
dumbfounded. When she noticed how frail Carla was, she immediately held her arms and assisted her
to her room.
"Mom, I don't want to talk about it..." Carla replied as she slightly shook her head.
She didn't want to recall those miserable memories anymore, at least not now.
"All right, that's okay. We'll talk once you're ready. You should lie down first. My goodness, you just had
an abortion! How can you walk around like that? Where is Terence?" Andrea asked, frenzied at her
daughter's recklessness.
She then asked Zoila to make some hot soup for Carla as she tucked her in bed.
"Is something wrong? You can tell me anything. Did Terence abandon you because of the baby?" she
asked as she held her daughter's hand.
Carla shook her head slightly and kept silent.
Andrea decided not to push her anymore, since she didn't want to talk at the moment. Instead, she let
out a deep sigh and said, "Callie, if you don't want to go back to the An family, you can stay here. I am
always here to protect you. I won't allow anyone to mistreat my daughter!"
Carla nodded her head and put her arms around Andrea. Tears coursed down her cheeks when she
felt the warmth of her mother's affection. "Mom, what will I do if I can't bear a baby again? Would
anyone still want to marry me? Am I going die sad and lonely?" Carla sobbed.
Even an ordinary family placed great importance on their child, let alone a prestige clan like the An
family.
If she couldn't have a child with Terence, there was no way she could marry him.
"Don't be silly. What are you talking about? Don't even think like that?" Andrea replied with a trembling
voice.
Andrea started to worry about what her daughter had just said. But she tried to keep calm and strong in
front of Carla.
Andrea recalled how she suffered heavy bleeding when she delivered Carla. After Carla was born,
when she tried to have another baby, she suffered several complications and eventually failed to keep
the child. As a result, she had no choice but to adopt another child.
'How could this happen to my daughter?
Something isn't right!' she thought quietly, wondering if her condition was genetically transferred to
Carla.
"But I saw it with my own eyes! It was all in the doctor's medical records. Mom, what should I do? I'm
so afraid!"
Carla screamed hysterically as she cried her heart out. All she needed at that moment was a
sympathetic ear and a warm consolation. The overwhelming pressure and burden was driving her
crazy.
"Don't cry, Callie. Most of the doctors tend to exaggerate things, so maybe the situation is not as bad
as you think. What's more, you just went through an operation and haven't fully recovered from your
injuries. It is still too early to jump to conclusions at this point."
Andrea patted Carla's shoulder and continued, "Even if you can't have a baby by yourself, there are
other ways of becoming a parent. The current field of medical technology is far advanced than it was
before. What do you say?"
Andrea wanted to say something more, but the servant, who was waiting outside, suddenly interrupted
their conversation. "Madam, there's a man on the telephone for you. He wants to speak to you urgently.
He said his name is Mr. An," the servant said, surprising both Andrea and Carla.
