Chapter 569 The Grass Is Always Greener On The Other Side (Part One)
Eunice bit her lips as she watched his receding figure. Almost at the same time, the feeling of sadness
and hate came rushing in her heart.
For what seemed like forever, she stood there silently, not moving an inch.
When she caught Rhys cheating on her for the first time, she lashed out at him. She had screamed at
him and thrown everything that her hands could get a hold of. She had even thought of divorcing him.
However, Edmund had stepped in and tried to resolve the issue. He had promised her that he was
going to let her manage the whole family since Carla had been missing.
She couldn't say no because she had been wanting to be the hostess of the family for as long as she
could remember. The offer made her hatred subside.
Rhys had also promised her that he would not cheat on her again. So without a second thought, she
forgave him and she had never looked back. They went back to being perfect and in love. It was like
the cheating had never happened and everything went back to normal.
However, three months later, he had done it again.
After that, she couldn't even keep track of how many times he had cheated on her.
At that moment, she had gotten numbed from the constant cheating that he had been doing.
Most days, Rhys would come home late at night from "business meetings". Sometimes, he would even
tell her that he had to spend a couple of nights out of town for a "business trip". But they both knew
those were just lies that he kept on telling her.
So instead of dwelling on this constant disappointment and pain, she started to devote all of her time,
attention and love to her son.
She seemed to have accepted the fact that she couldn't rely on her husband anymore. She was just
glad to have her son by her side.
She even thought that there was a high possibility that
her son would be the next successor of the AJ Group in the future. He might inherit all the properties of
the An family.
Even though she didn't have a faithful husband who could only look at her, she would have a rich and
powerful son. Her life was going to be just perfect in that way.
It was the reason why she could go through her day-to-day life, why she wasn't crying every hour of the
day, why she could still smile and why she could sleep soundly at night. It had become what she looked
forward to and the purpose of her life.
The next morning, as Carla had just walked out of their room, she came across Eunice and Eric who
were walking towards her direction.
"Good morning, Eunice,"
Carla greeted first with a wide smile on her face.
"Good morning, Carla! How was your sleep?"
Holding a limited edition toy on one hand, Eunice smiled back. She then asked, "Where is Sally? Is she
still asleep?"
"Oh, no. She's awake. She's with her father right now. Do you or Eric need anything?"
Carla asked. She wondered why Eunice was there.
"Carla, I felt really bad about what happened last night. I only have one boy and I might have spoiled
him. Please don't take it personally! I hope you're not holding a grudge or anything like that."
Truth be told, Eunice actually sounded sincere.
Deep in her heart, she didn't want to get along with Carla. She didn't even want to interact with her.
However, Eunice knew that she had to keep a good relationship with her.
Carla had safely come back with her daughter. Terence and his father both felt guilty for not finding
them sooner. Since the An family consisted of so many boys, her daughter became everyone's favorite.
Eunice knew that it was not a good time to not be in good terms with Carla.
"Don't worry about it. Terence and I didn't mind it too much,"
Carla simply said. From her perspective, Eunice's fake apology actually made her feel really
uncomfortable.
She could clearly tell that Eunice was faking it. She could barely hide her true feelings. Carla couldn't
comprehend why she was even forcing herself to do it.
"Alright then. Let's turn a new page! Here is the toy that we got for Sally. Even though it isn't worth that
much, please accept it! Our hearts are with it."
Eunice said while she urged Eric to come closer to Carla. After a few tiny steps, Eric held up the toy
towards Carla.
"Aunt Carla, this is for Sally. This is the newest robot. We got the pink one especially for her!"
Carla smiled awkwardly. It was obvious that Eunice knew Carla could refuse the gift if she gave it to
her. That was why she asked Eric to do it. She would only look like a mean person if she didn't accept
anything from a little kid.
"Aww, that's very sweet of you. Thank you so much!"
Carla smiled at the little boy as she gently took the toy.
Since they gave it to her in person, she had no choice but to accept it. However, playing with it or not
was up to Sally.
At that moment, the door of Carla's room opened.
Terence walked out, looking like he had just finished washing up. When he saw Eunice, he immediately © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
frowned but he still greeted her politely.
Then, he held Carla by the waist and said, "Honey, do you mind helping me pick up a tie for this shirt?"
When she heard that, Carla turned to look at Eunice and was about to say something but Eunice spoke
first.
"Oh, it looks like you're busy. We'll see you later then."
She then turned around with her son and headed back towards their room.
A few steps later, she turned around. She saw Terence and Carla as they were walking towards their
room. His hand was still on her waist.
He was so handsome, and his eyes were filled with so much love as they were fixated on Carla. Eunice
couldn't tear her eyes away from the couple.
In her heart, jealousy and longing for something like that started to form.
Seeing how much Terence and Carla loved each other, she couldn't help but think about her own
marriage and how unhappy and lonely she had been feeling lately, especially last night. It was true that
in her own way she managed to stay strong and get used to the unfortunate thing that was her
marriage. However, when she saw how happy other couples could be in their marriages, she was
reminded of how pathetic and abandoned she really was.
