Love’ss 36
Chapter 36
Coincidentally, Andrew had come to pick Madelyn up. She grinned as she walked up to him and said, “Darling, look at what Mom bought me!
Andrew hummed in response. He took the bags from Madelyn
without prompting and eyed her inquisitively when he saw how happy
she looked.
According to Jason, nothing of note happened between Madelyn and Easton or Elena. In other words, her conflict with them had been sudden. Having learned all this, Andrew grew even more curious about what had transpired between the three of them.
“Is there something you want to ask me, darling?” Madelyn asked when she sensed that Andrew had something to say.
Andrew carried her to the car indulgently and fastened her seatbelt for her. “If I ask, will you tell me the truth?”
So, he was seeking answers from her.NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
She knew she had been too conspicuous the last few days not to arouse his suspicion, and he wasn’t as easily fooled or humored as Grace and Athena. He would likely continue to suspect her if she didn’t give him a good enough explanation.
After a moment of thought, Madelyn asked instead of answering, “Are you worried I’ll make you let your guard down and make a run for it?”
Andrew froze at this. Then, he lifted his face to pin her with his smoldering, piercing gaze.
That was all the confirmation Madelyn needed. She had felt it too. It might seem like she had regained her freedom over the last few days, but in truth, everyone still had their guard up against her.
“I promise I won’t run. I’ll even take a blood oath–I swear I will not leave my husband, or I’ll-”
“That’s enough!” Andrew cut her off, covering her mouth with his hand to silence her. He pulled her into his arms, his heart full and warm.
Her promise was enough. She hadn’t even said “I do” when the pastor pronounced them husband and wife. On the day of the wedding, she had thrown her bouquet on the ground and glowered at him as if he were her archnemesis.
Satisfied, Andrew said, “You don’t have to take a blood oath or swear on anything. I believe you.”
Madelyn nodded. “You have to believe me all the way, okay?”
“1 will,” he promised in return. He just wanted to know why she had changed so drastically. Had she suffered some heartbreak or
devastating predicament?
However, he could tell Madelyn was not ready to talk about it, so he did not pry.
Time flew by quickly, and there were three days left until Athena’s birthday celebration.
Madelyn insisted on going to the Miller residence and threw a fit when Andrew said no. She argued that they had to go back, for Athena would transfer her shares in Miller Group to Easton on the day of the birthday celebration.
Andrew had no choice but to give in to her demands. And just like that, they moved back to the Miller residence.
Easton had been discharged from the hospital and moved into the Miller residence as well. However, his presence in the house made Grace and Athena uneasy.
“Maddie, you don’t have to stay here with me,” Athena said.
“Grandma, I thought you wanted me to move back? Mom also said she’d cook for me and make sure eat well,” Madelyn said, pouting and casting a crestfallen look at her elders. Athena and Grace
softened at once.
“Has Andrew been starving you?” Athena asked.
Madelyn chuckled as she gave Athena a helping of the beef short ribs, which had been braised for so long that the meat fell off the bones. No, but I still want to stay and keep you company.”
Athena sighed good–naturedly. “Oh, alright. What am I to do with you, sweet child?”
The old lady was plagued by the dilemma. Knowing she could not persuade Madelyn to leave, she turned to Easton instead.
Easton couldn’t help the thrill that went through him when he heard Madelyn insisting on staying at the Miller residence. Gone was his foul mood, replaced by a triumphant glee.
He had expected her to play hard to get, as women so often did. He reckoned she was determined to stay because she could not bear to part with him.
But the next moment, Athena caught him by surprise when she suggested gravely, “Easton, I think it’s best if you stay somewhere else for the next couple of days.”
