Night Attack
Kaivan was ready, equipped with everything he needed for the attack. Alongside Hans and Xavier, he was prepared to depart for the ambush location.
After seeing Dominique off to Catania, it was Kaivan’s turn to rev up the motorcycle he was riding. They penetrated the wild forest to quickly reach the Sicilian headquarters.
Kaivan could feel the bone-chilling cold of the night piercing his skin. When people should have been sound asleep, he struggled to navigate the rugged terrain, ensuring the motorcycle he rode could maintain a steady pace until they finally reached the stopping point.
Xavier, leading the group, gradually slowed the pace of his motorcycle. Methodically, he shut off the engine. He signaled to park their motorcycles amidst the bushes within the forest. They all proceeded to move slowly, following Xavier and his subordinates until the Sicilian headquarters came into view from a distance.
Hans squinted his eyes, starting to count how many guards were posted around the building. After confirming their numbers, he signaled the snipers to take their shots from a distance.
“Since there are two targets on the left and two on the right, we need to shoot them simultaneously to avoid raising suspicion.” Hans positioned himself and the other snipers, all aiming their Steyr Scharfschutzengewehr 69 or SSG 69 rifles at the enemies. Hans chose this weapon intentionally because it could fire bullets without producing a loud sound. This helped him to attack silently in the night. The large-bodied man then gave the signal, began aiming at the targets from behind the dense trees. A moment later, he started counting down, then released the trigger in a single breath. And voilà, all four individuals fell simultaneously without anyone knowing that the Sicilian members had been shot.
Seeing that their targets had fallen helplessly, Xavier ordered the group to advance towards the building. With Xavier at the forefront, Kaivan in the middle, and Hans guarding the rear, they moved forward stealthily.
Several Witch Hunter soldiers started to split up. They launched a sudden attack on the Sicilian members guarding different sides of the building. Meanwhile, Kaivan and Xavier began to scour the entire area, searching for Anne and Giorgino, held captive by Luca.
Entering the building, Kaivan checked room after room. He attempted to locate Anna Maria’s whereabouts as quickly as possible before Luca’s forces became aware of their presence.
Finally, Kaivan’s footsteps halted in a room. He spotted a middle-aged man who was none other than Giorgino, sitting in a chair with his hands and feet bound. Quickly, Kaivan approached and attempted to free the restraints on his father-in-law’s hands and feet.
“Who are you really?” Giorgino asked. He had never met Kaivan before, honestly.
After successfully removing all the bindings, Kaivan helped Giorgino to his feet while answering his question first. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“I’m Kaivan Maximilian. The man who married your daughter.”
Giorgino was slightly taken aback. He had no idea about his daughter’s marriage. But upon hearing the name Kaivan, which was not unfamiliar, something clicked in his memory.
“Kaivan? The owner of the Neutral Territory? But how did you suddenly become my son-in-law? When did you marry my daughter?” he bombarded with a lot of questions. Why were there so many important pieces of information he didn’t know? During his time in hiding, Noah had only provided information that his daughter was safe in the Neutral Territory. But not once did his eldest son mention Anne’s marriage to the owner of the Neutral Territory.
Meanwhile, Kaivan, bombarded with multiple questions, simply nodded. As he continued to walk forward, he responded vaguely.
“Yes, I am the owner of the Neutral Territory. The story of how we ended up getting married is quite long. But I promise I’ll explain everything after all of you are safe. Right now, the most important thing is to find out where Anne is.”
Giorgino nodded in agreement. The middle-aged man then accepted a firearm offered by Kaivan.
“Who knows, you might need it.”
“I don’t know exactly where Anna Maria is located,” Giorgino whispered. “But it seems like she’s in one of the rooms at the end of this building.”
The two of them resumed moving stealthily. However, unfortunate as it was, after just a few steps forward, two Sicilian individuals accidentally spotted them and immediately attacked. One of them even fired a shot intentionally. The sound triggered a commotion, awakening the rest of the Sicilian members.
Cornered, without hesitation, Kaivan chose to fight back. He struck and immobilized the attackers, forcing them to fall to the ground. Before he could finish dealing with them, a few more men approached from behind, intentionally attacking. One of them even struck Kaivan’s body with a chair. Giorgino, standing not far from Kaivan, immediately aimed his firearm, targeted the opponents’ legs, and fired a few shots, causing the other enemies to fall. Seizing this opportunity, Kaivan also fired follow-up shots at several Sicilian members who had just arrived, causing them to fall helpless.
Walking side by side, they continued searching the headquarters building. They were determined to find Anna Maria’s whereabouts. Not long after, Xavier appeared to catch up with them.
“Have you found your wife?”
Kaivan shook his head.
“She seems to be in one of the rooms at the end of the building. While I continue to search, you’d better take Giorgino out of here first. Secure his position to prevent him from being captured again by the enemies.”
Xavier followed the given instructions. Alongside a few guards, he immediately led Giorgino out of the building. They walked swiftly towards the forest to avoid any possible pursuit.
Meanwhile, Kaivan continued searching for Anna Maria. Eventually, he stopped in a small room on the right side of the building. Slowly but surely, he advanced, turned the doorknob, and found a woman sitting weakly in a chair. Quickly, he approached and without much talk, started untying the ropes that bound his wife’s body.
“Kaivan,” Anne greeted as she realized.
“Yes. I’ve come to rescue you.” After freeing Anne, Kaivan assisted her to stand. For a moment, he held his wife’s body tightly, releasing the longing that had built up during their separation just a few days ago.
“I missed you,” he said softly.
Anne let go of the embrace, but before fully pulling away, she planted kisses on both of her husband’s cheeks while responding.
“I’m sorry. I had to do it,” Anne murmured. Regret was evident on her face.
“Never leave me like this again.”
Kaivan then reached for Anne’s wrist, gripping it tightly, and guided her to exit the room. Stealthily moving again, their steps came to a halt when three Sicilian individuals appeared and immediately attacked.
The husband and wife duo seemed to know what to do. They worked together to strike and kick their assailants. Anne even boldly charged at one of the enemies, using her body to pin him down and squeezing his neck until he couldn’t move.
When everything was under control, Anne and Kaivan resumed their steps. Just as they were about to head towards a side door of the building, Luca appeared from the right side, accompanied by his top henchmen, Mateo and Mikael. Both men aimed their weapons directly at Kaivan and Anne’s heads simultaneously, rendering them helpless.
A smile appeared on Luca’s face. The elderly man approached, followed by several other Sicilian members who surrounded the area.
“It’s not so easy to escape from the Sicilian lair. No matter how clever your strategies are, Luca can still defeat you.”
Luca then ordered Mateo to strike Kaivan until he fell. When Kaivan was incapacitated, he instructed his favored henchman to drag both Kaivan and Anne into the underground room. Whether to keep them captive or possibly end their lives right there.
