Chapter 3473 What Did You Say?
"You... What did you do to us?"
The group stared at Matthew in terror, their entire bodies feeling unbearably heavy. Their legs trembled uncontrollably as though weighed down by invisible chains. The handsome man before them no longer looked human-he was like a beast, wild and untamed. Matthew's gaze settled on the leader, his tone calm but cold. "You act quite arrogantly. I'll ask, you'll answer. If you can't, you die."
The calmness in Matthew's voice sent cold sweat streaming down the leader's face. Inside, his mind roared with disbelief. This can't be real. Does he not fear the Viper Crew?
But as his eyes met Matthew's, devoid of any hesitation, the leader's fear overpowered his pride. Nodding frantically, he silently begged for mercy.
"Do you know Shaun Mendoza?" Matthew asked.
The leader's face brightened with hope.noveldrama
"Yes! He's my boss. Let me go, and I'll take you to him."
Matthew ignored the man's plea and continued, "Mendoza used to live modestly. Why is he suddenly throwing money around like water? Where's his newfound wealth coming from?"
The question drained the color from the leader's face. He hesitated, unsure if answering was worth the risk.
Matthew's eyes narrowed, and his grip tightened.
"Ah! I'll talk, I'll talk!"
Gone was the leader's earlier bravado. Pale and drenched in cold sweat, he stammered out his response. "Shaun disappeared for several days recently. When he came back, he suddenly had more money than he knew what to do with. He's been living it up ever since- drinking, partying, spending recklessly, like money doesn't matter. We were curious too, but anyone who asked got killed. That's all I know, I swear! Please, sir, have mercy! I was blind to your greatness. Spare my life, and I'll never cross you again!"
He dropped to his knees, ignoring
the pain in his broken arm as he groveled at Matthew's feet. Better alive and humiliated than dead, he thought. As long as he lived, hez could remain part of the Viper Crew and enjoy his life of indulgence.
Matthew's voice was calm, almost cordial. "That's all I needed. Thanks for your help."
The leader's pupils shrank as a crushing sense of doom overtook him. In desperation, his face twisted into a snarl, and he whipped out a dagger.
"If I'm going to die, I'll take you down with me!"
He lunged at Matthew, aiming for his heart. But the next second, Matthew casually caught the blade mid-air.
The leader's face lit up with a
triumphant grin. "Ha! That dagger is
laced with venom from a pit viper. You're dead! Just one scratch and the poison will kill you before you take five steps!"
Matthew's fingers tightened slightly, and the supposedly lethal blade crumpled like a twig. He held out his pristine hand, showing no sign of injury. "You said something about a pit viper?"
The leader's grin froze as disbelief overtook him. "T-That's impossible.. That dagger was made from special alloy! This... this isn't real. I must be dreaming. Yes, that's it. This@s just a dream..."
Matthew tilted his head, his voice calm as ever. "If you can't figure it out, take your time thinking-down there."
With a flick of his wrist, an overwhelming force slammed into the leader, sending him flying backward. His body hit the ground lifelessly moments later.
Matthew turned to the remaining men, now a mess of fear and desperation. Some fell to their knees, begging for mercy, while others tried to threaten him.
Matthew raised a finger and waved it lightly. A thin arc of sword energy shot out, cutting through the air.
Scarlet sprayed in all directions.
